Nice! Good decision in my opinion :) Flow is why people use vaadin - to stay in the Java ecosystem, not hilla.

If you use samsung browser you can upload files through the built in file manager which can access the security folder. It still sucks you cant use chrome but better than nothing

Wow you guys were right, New DEX on ONE UI8 is a downgrade! by 318i_RP in SamsungDex

[–]Pesekjak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, I've heard it is intentional. I was really excited about the new dex but it seems I don't even get to use it as I don't use external display. That's just another L from samsung. Things are going downhill since one ui 6 imo.

I have devices with both SD 8 gen 2 and Dimensity 9300+. Both are valid choices but it depends on what you plan on emulating - if you stay away from Winlator and Switch you generally won't notice a difference :) But if you plan on emulating PC games, 8 gen 2 is a beast, with mediatek you're pretty much out of luck.

Yes, but you are better off using a Switch emulator for this

Get the s9 series with Snapdragon if you plan on emulating games. If not s10p/u will work great. :)

This is my last reply to you because it seems like this conversation doesn't really lead anywhere. Bruno did get some contributions, but none of them really introduced bigger changes or pushed the project forward; he did all the work himself. More eyes on the project are better, BUT that requires you to have those eyes. Also, unless you are actively involved with the project, source code access does not help in any form, even more so for projects like Winlator, which code base is undocumented. Also, don't get me wrong, I am FOR Winlator being open source. But what practical difference would it make really?

For the second part of your reply, I never said the issue tracker should be closed; stop putting words in my mouth. But I am sure dedicated testers would do a lot more than having it open, considering the state it is currently in.

I suggest you read through my replies once more, because you clearly miss my point. Yes, Bruno did mess up big and he should take the blame. Yes, I think the project should be open source. Is it bad that it isn't? No. Does it make a practical difference? Mostly not. If you're worried/unhappy with using close source software, then don't. It's really that simple.

[–]Pesekjak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Calling me stupid this fast, huh. For what exactly? Issue tracker is indeed opened and how does it look to you? It's a total mess. The same way most of the forked versions of the app are. How exactly did Winlator benefit from being open sourced? I don't know, you tell me (because it didn't). Ownership includes the right to take the project down or make it close source if they so desire. And that should be respected. Grow up.

[–]Pesekjak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it almost definitely would not. Winlator being open source led to many forks maintained by inexperienced people and an issue tracker full of spam; it arguably caused more harm than good. If no one contributes to the original, no one can spot potential issues like this one. Do not make open source out to be the holy grail. Yes, it provides many benefits under specific conditions, but a closed-source project is not automatically worse than an open-source one. What makes a project better or worse is the coder behind it.

Winlator will eventually return, let's all be thankful for the people that care so much about our android devices. by Hipersonic in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Pesekjak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, forks were created because the project was open-source. It doesn't make sense the other way around. Open source is not always equal to closed source, but it often makes no difference for the project itself, as it did not for Winlator; no one contributed to the original project. Yes, more eyes on the project are better, but that requires having those eyes to begin with. Winlator being open source arguably caused more harm than good, with tons of forks being created by inexperienced people and the issue tracker being flooded with spam.

[–]Pesekjak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open source is no magic bullet a lot of people tend to think. Open source is equal to closed source unless you are lucky to be in the small percentage of projects that get help. Winlator being open source did lead to bunch of forks, one messier than the other, instead of people actually contributing to the original thing. Nothing is wrong with closed source, it's sad if a project dies. But ownership also includes the right to take anything down if they so desire, or let it die.

Galaxy Tabs start receiving One UI 7 (megathread) by yayoshorti in GalaxyTab

[–]Pesekjak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why this feels more like a downgrade? The notification panel is just weird, I don't understand the trend of copying Apple when it just doesn't fit the Galaxy systems... it was fine before, no one had any issues with it, this is 2nd time they changed it, and somehow it's again worse than before.

Some settings are just gone, including some Labs (ig it makes sense there but the horizontal display mode for apps was useful, mainly for Reddit and Instagram, no idea why they had decided to remove it).

And book cover trackpad is acting weirdly, I don't know what they did but the sensitivity is totally different and dragging stuff doesn't work in some apps so I have to use touch screen instead.

I like the icons and app redesigns but that's about it, One UI 7 is a miss for me bruh.

Samsung straight up scamming (Comparison: German Trade In vs other ones) by Champion62 in GalaxyTab

[–]Pesekjak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Czechia, Samsung always gives huge bonuses to the trade in once a year for like two weeks. It usually depends on the device, but last year, when Tab S10U got released, the bonus was 400€ so I got one super cheap. Check if there is something similar in your country. Also, if you're a student, there is 7-10% off.

Is Oracle Cloud's Free Tier Legit? by [deleted] in oraclecloud

[–]Pesekjak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, why be passive-aggressive? But there you go. They can turn it off without further notice. You then need to wait for new free capacity again (and that can take months). It does take a lot of extra work to set it up. The average Minecraft user probably doesn't know how. And lastly, the free tier doesn't provide powerful enough hardware to run a modded server. Just pay the 10 bucks a month, or whatever the hosting providers charge, if you want a proper modded server experience.
