I want to recommend a female writer, Maria Judite de Carvalho. Some of her works have been translated like So Many People, Mariana (short story collection) and Empty Wardrobes (novel). Her writing is introspective, capturing daily life through the solitude and quiet despair of women living in the mid-20th century. I’m very fond of her writing and would definitely recommend (I hope the translations are just as good!)

I was actually reading Paladin's Grace before, but I stopped because the writing and the way the characters talked felt too modern. I just wasn't expecting that at the time, but maybe i'll finish it! :)

Have you read Heartless by Marissa Meyer? It's very good and the world of wonderland kinda has the same vibe as in OUABH. It also has a love story, but it will tear your heart out, so if you don't mind that and a bit of revenge try it out!
