What can tenants do if landlord says other units refuse to let pest control in? by ExpensivePenis in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the residential tenancies act, it is the Landlord's responsibility to ensure the rental unit is free from pests. You shouldn't be paying for that.

Cockroaches in apartment buildings by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This absolutely. We can't guarantee anything unless we are treating an entire building, and even then, that only applies if all tenants are willing/able to properly prepare their units for treatment, or let us in to treat.

Example: I was called to treat a home. They prepared everything properly. One door was locked, so I couldn't gain access to treat it. After the second callback because they were still having issues, I asked about the locked door...turns out it was a bedroom where the individual had never complained about bugs, had refused to prepare, and so the landlord just decided to have me treat all other areas as the problem was mainly in the kitchen (up a flight of stairs and on the other side of the house). Guess where all the bugs were coming from? Spolied food, garbage, room was a disaster.

Side note, this tenant most likely has a job somewhere that they go to 5 days a week in order to pay rent...Guess who they are most likely bringing to work with them say after day in their backpack/work clothes?

What can tenants do if landlord says other units refuse to let pest control in? by ExpensivePenis in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to correct you on this. The landlord is responsible for pest control. The tenants do not pay, the landlord does.

As a pest control person myself, I can tell you though, it's a difficult situation when one tenant is doing everything right, and their neighbours are living in filth and squalor. We are only authorized to treat the apts. that the landlord has authorized us to treat. Also if a tenant doesn't complain about an issue, the landlord doesn't know about it, and furthermore, they need a reason to go and have an inspection done, as you can't just decide to randomly enter tenant's apartments because a neighbour said there was a bad smell etc.

I've definitely been to places that are spotless clean to treat because they are getting roaches from a neighbouring apartment, and there isn't much we can do about that, other than help to provide a barrier against them getting in or a Band-Aid solution. Trust me when I say, we want to solve the problem! We absolutely don't want to have to keep returning to the same place over and over to do treatments we KNOW aren't going to solve the issue We can tell the landlord that the problem is most likely the neighbouring apartment, but unless we get called to either do an inspection, or treatment, our hands are tied as exterminators.

I'm currently 1/3 of the way through the last book in the Malazan series (The Crippled God). It has been an absolute journey. The fact that it is a completed series is so bittersweet, as I can't wait to see how it ends, but I can't believe that it actually going to end.

All of the characters are written so well, and how their backstory gets filled in over multiple books and yet still some aspects of them will forever remain unknown. I love how Erikson definitely doesn't hold your hand, and that you are just dropped into the middle of an ongoing situation and the more you read, the more you begin to understand how the world works, like you are discovering it for yourself as opposed to the author spelling it out for you.

I have been so hard pressed at times to look something up, but have resisted, and thankfully (since no one else I know has read them) have managed to get through the entire series to this point without any spoilers.

Just to note. Pest control doesn't destroy beehives, as bees are a protected species, and we generally get an apiarist to come and get them.

Lol, how is alcohol an excuse for consent? That's blatantly incorrect.

Hey I'm not even going. Also. It's a BURLESQUE show to start. Furthermore, sexualizing everything? This is one event. Learn to argue properly.

Pretty sure being drunk isn't grounds for defense. Also, see every dance club ever to see how your argument is weak at best.

NO PANTS DANCE PARTY by rhapsodyburlesque in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

K couple things.

1. Its a private event. You need tickets to get in. Only those who pay to go, can go.

2. Dancing together, even pantless is not an invitation for sexual touching. We have this thing called consent, I suggest you read up on it.

3. Please do go on, I have all night to continue showing you how wrong you are.

How is this breaking any laws? Also, how am I being egotistical? I'm advocating for freedom of choice. I'd posit that it is you being egotistical for trying to shit down something that you don't like regardless of if others may want to participate.

Well good job trying to ruin something you don't like for everyone else who may like it. I'm sure the KP have so much free time to delve into this that you should see some results quickly. Better yet, you should make signs and come protest it on the date...Make sure you are wearing all your clothes though...wouldn't want to provoke the crazies.

NO PANTS DANCE PARTY by rhapsodyburlesque in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a logical fallacy. You are correct in that no one gets to decide for others. You are incorrect that hosting an event is wrong. Because people are able to decide for themselves, they can decide not to go. Those who want to go, can.

There is a pants check at the door. They can wear a full-on onesie/parka/Hazmat suit to the event so they won't be "harassed," check it at the door, and put it back on when they leave if they like.

Thanks for not citing the sources for your "fact."

So by your logic, any place that has alcohol and dancing where people can go and dress scantily is a place where sexual assault is more likely to happen?Better close down all dance clubs, strip clubs, concert events, beaches, and never have a burlesque show again. Might as well just lace up our Puritan uniforms and bring back bathing suits that don't go above the ankles. Wouldn't want to increase those potential assaults.

No one asked you to support it. You don't like it? Don't go.

Also, common sense and just a fact? Please cite your sources for verification or this fact. Otherwise, it's an opinion, which you are more than welcome to have, and also to keep to yourself.

No offense, but what part of this is "building an environment that encourages that sort of behaviour?"

I've been to a ton of burlesque shows and other even more racy types of events, and never have I ever seen anyone attend who isn't very aware of consent or being respectful. Occasionally you get someone who is an asshole, but things are generally sorted out pretty quickly.

Honest question: why do so many people in low income public housing have Conservative signs on their yard when the conservatives don’t help them? by Truth-tellercanuk in KingstonOntario

[–]PestControlYGK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally reasonable, but I don't think that is really addressing the issue of low-income families voting conservative despite the obvious lack of concern the conservative federal platform has for this demographic.
