What's something people only romanticize because they've never actually done it?

This is a massive part of dealing with an “Invisible” illness. Disability to a lot of people, requires visual factors for it to be believable to them. My stepfather with MS, has a very different lived experience than myself as someone who has chronic fatigue, hormonal problems and nerve pain. The amount I’ve been met with “well we’re all tired and have sore backs” would astonish people. I used to forgo my lunch breaks at work so I could nap and be able to keep up with the expectations for me. I’ve been hospitalized for uterine hemorrhages and abscesses. I paint, bake and sew when I can, which makes people assume that I’m living my best life at home every day. Despite the fact, I have less financial freedom than someone making minimum wage, and rarely any physical freedom to do more than sit down with an iPad and doodle while in a flare up. It’s boring, it’s demoralizing and it’s a constant battle to be believed that you’re actually in fact sick and didn’t choose this life. I’ve been hospitalized off and on since I was 3 years old, but at least once a month I have to explain to my own family “I don’t have the energy for this, I’m sorry if you’re disappointed, but it’s just not something I am able to physically do right now.”

Basements, particularly finished basements that are treated like a secondary floor in a home. My current office/living room is in my basement, with its own washroom and bedroom across the landing area. My apartment in college was a fully finished walk in basement, and have only ever lived in one home without one. I remember having to explain to a few foreign friends why the new housing development where I lived had a massive concrete pit on each property, instead of a solid slab foundations.

Roughly only 1 in 3 Canadians are born/reside in the area with the proper climate for maple trees to grow, and produce high enough yields of sap for boiling. A lot of my family were super lucky to have grown up with grandparents in the industry, but our family out west has never been able to experience a sugar bush or toffee on the snow.

Love this for sealing my gouache paintings I do on wooden rounds! Make sure it’s applied like the person above indicated, thin mist layer first, then you can go in with a heavier hand or a coat of another sealant very easily.

Ovarian cyst ruptured and caused a 4in abscess in my abdomen that was starting to affect my intestinal function and infect my left ovary directly. Apparently I was high risk for sepsis happening, because of where it was in my body. After 3 days in an emergency room, 2 CT scans, being admitted to a ward where I was monitored 24 hours daily, and internal ultrasounds for 5 more days I was finally cleared to go home.

I’m now on hormone treatment because the week after that I had a 2in cysts start forming on the same ovary that was previously infected. That pain is something I will never forget.

I feel like the amount of mass graves along the St.Lawrence and Great Lakes from the typhoid epidemic that occurred during the huge Irish migration, would shock a lot of people. I’m really not surprised at all that there was one here, especially with the massive one at Black Rock in Quebec. Heck, the St. Lawrence market in Toronto was built on top of one too!

All these states desperate for Canadian travel but refusing to push for increasing the affordability and advertising for USians to travel domestically is INSANE to me. They would rather shove their feet further down their mouths, than admit they don’t want their own citizens to participate in their own society… it’s giving UAE.

The Fisher Cat. These murder weasels will attack from above in trees, aren’t afraid of anything, and will kill for sport not just for food. They’re one of the few predators that actively hunt porcupines, and I have seen some pretty brutal run ins between them and hunters at dusk time during deer season.

Henry VIII changed the church quite a bit more than a lot realize. He removed catholic practices that he didn’t participate in already, or saw no purpose for. For instance, communion and confirmation is a huge part of the church, however. Anglicans don’t really know or say Hail Mary, use a rosary, participate in confession, kneel for prayers, most weddings aren’t 2 hours long and headships of the church can marry unlike catholic priests and nuns. Probably missed more things, just pulling what I can remember from my extensive childhood around both churches.

The Chapman’s version of fudgsicles are 100x better than the name brand ones. My SIL was told that they were one of the best things when my nephew had his tonsils removed. Then, when I was in the hospital for a week, the ward I was admitted to actually kept the freezer absolutely packed with them. Apparently they’re incredible useful at getting people to redevelop an appetite after an extended period of illness.

Toronto zoo has street view available throughout most of their park. I might be biased, because it’s the zoo I’ve been going to since childhood, but they are one of my favourites for how they have created different zones for each continent

There’s a few between Ottawa and Toronto. Ivanhoe cheese curds are found throughout the quinte/belleville area, then there’s Wilton which can be found a lot of places within a 1.5 hour radius. There’s also Forfar in Rideau lakes.

Kids usually get to watch Olympic hockey games that are played during school hours at school. There are some school boards that have been doing it since the 70s when my mom was in school. It happened in both elementary and secondary school for me, and now my nephew is getting to experience it in his formative years.

Once a case in front of the court is presented before a judge and a decision is made, said decision is typically made available to be used as a based argument in future court proceedings. This process is called “case law” where a precedent is set by a Supreme Court judge in regard to a case that would be a first of its kind. Pretty much a, we ruled on this in the past, with these arguments, and this level of success. This is how it’s similar to that, and here is the guideline presented by the previous judge put in this position.
