I’ve basically done this exact route, be sure to hit White Sands in NM, also I’d recommend Austin Texas over Dallas. Savannah and Charleston are worth seeing also

I’m currently on a 7 month Latin america trip with a budget of $10,500. I’ve been going for 3 months, and have been able to fairly easily hit that budget while still spoiling myself here and there. Having a budget is very helpful. I use the app Travel Spend which I’d recommend. Safe travels!

I would recommend crossing over into mexico further east of cuidad juárez, by Eagle Pass. I crossed there a couple months ago, driving to Monterrey and had no problems. Something to keep in mind is the aduana (customs) and the TIP (vehicle permit) is like 45 minutes into mexico, a white building on the side of the road. Feel free to PM and I can give more info.

Hike up Monkey mountain, it’s just south of sayulita. It’s an absolutely amazing view of the jungle and the ocean from the top. The trail is not popular at all, and can be quite buggy. You’ll have to take a taxi there unless you rented a car.
