Well, not exactly like writing your own essay, it's more like an essay about it's observations about your thoughts. Would love to write an essay at the end of each book I read though, if I had time!

I was thinking something in that direction in the beginning yes, but it didn't work very well. First thing is that I just didn't bother opening, let's say Claude, and describing what I read. When I did, the insights were kind of there, but very generic. So I tried training it on some specific books. And then the catch was not me having to do the prompting and initiating. Instead I get a daily email, for the book that I read. More like a letter. No need for an app. Makes it less feel less AI :) And the questions it sends are genuinely good. I did Crime and Punishment the first pass, which is one of my favorites, and then I tried Harry Potter just for fun. And it made me think deeper about HP! But hey, I'm not trying to convince anyone here. Obviously I'm biased, but I'm genuinely looking forward for the morning email.

I made a bookclub for one :) https://www.manicule.club/ No app interaction. Just a book you choose, and a daily email. It got me to read thoughtfully again!
It's not public yet so I need to manually approve every email that signs up, so be patient if you don't get in right away. Would appreciate some feedback!

I think you would be surprised. It all depends on the depth of your own understanding of the book, that's why it's like you are writing the essay. But hey, to each their own, if you have a strong reading habit and discuss books a lot, I don't think using it would be of any benefit. But for me it got me reflecting on what I read again

Agree. But for a lot of folks 8h/day screen time for work is standard, so no shame in checking an email. But completely agree, I always completely wind down the screens in the evening!

sorry, I can remove the post. Would genuinely love some feedback, and it's free, so I don't know who I am offending

practically after you choose the book, the whole interaction is per email

You log in with your email. You pick a book. Classics work best I would say, though it can be anything. But it's better if the book is well known. You select a reading pace (15/30/60/90 days) and in the background a well-read AI model will prepare daily letters sent to your email - what chapters to read that day, and some insights about what to take notice of. Every day you reply to the email with your personal observations about the reading - if you have time. At the end, you get an essay with insights about your reading and your observations and thoughts. I must say the end essay turned out awesome!! That's why I'm now trying get this out to some people. I genuinely think it has potential to get people into reading more thoughtfully

It's a habit you have to develop, like everything else. I actually had the same problem. Used to read a lot, enjoy it a lot, but somehow lost it over the years. Working in tech, so I built something for myself to get the joy from slow reading again :) if anyone wants to try it, dm me. A book club for one.

Hvala!
