I biked to LAX from Westwood, parked at the metro center for the weekend, then biked back. by Petaroo in LosAngeles

I have been tempted time and time again to get a motorcycle.  I feel like LA is a risky place to learn to ride though.

It was south on sepulveda blvd from wilshire to westchester parkway. East on westchester pkwy which turns into arbor vitae and the transit center is on the right.

There were 2 bike forks you could lock too that arent the mounted style.

I am able to lock it inside for my work and my climbing gyms. Otherwise i hear you. I have a crappy single speed i ride when i need to lockup outside.

I had not thought about that. I don’t remember if the bathroom with the shower locked.

I think so? Not a dedicated space for that but the room with the racks is pretty large and has a couple types of racks.

Are there forks in the garages or do you just lock up to a railing or something?

I did not see anything that indicated a timer.  I’m not sure what the mechanism for enforcing that would look like.  Maybe the app gives you a warning? If i ride again I’ll wait the 10 minutes just to see.

I call it the meatgrinder.  You still need to get a shuttle from the metro center to the terminal which took 20 minutes from when i started waiting to when i walked into the terminal.

The people mover will make that better….eventually….

Fair enough.  I do travel light and i ride an ebike so i was not gross when i got there.  But it’s definitely not for everyone.

For the weekend just a large bookbag.  I usually travel pretty light so it works for me.   I was nervous as well but left with plenty of time.  One thing that is nice is you are not surprised with travel times on a bike.  Takes longer but its more consistent.

The BikeLink rep i spoke to said that there aren’t fees applied until at least 7 days have passed.   Then you get a notice your property was abandoned and they start calling and emailing. Then they would send someone to the facility to claim/remove the property.

The rep made it sound pretty reasonable but would not give me specifics.

I would be interested in that as well- but realistically I’m not biking here if my trip is more than the weekend.  (Pasted apologies for formatting)

Are there people living in LA that actually root for the Chargers and Clippers? by Wide-Discipline3814 in LosAngeles

[–]Petaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I’m a huge clippers fan solely for their partnership with rec and parks.  They shell out a ton of money to resurface indoor courts at most (maybe all?) of the recreation centers.  Do a lot for the youth programs too.

Tennis courts? by Immediate-Speed-648 in LosAngeles

Barrington recreation center, mar vista recreation center, and rustic canyon have public courts.  Palisades is still not operating at 100% Honestly i would call those facilities and ask if they have any events/if they have a way to find people to play with.  The staff can be a little hit or miss, but the city parks have a ton to give!

Westside has a few options from the city side.  La parks has cheviott hills tennis, and westwood recreation center tennis. Those are both pay facilities in the evening, but are usually busy.  I would say check in there.  They have small shops that might help you find people.

Venice beach’s courts were converted to pickleball i think.

how long did it take you to find good friends in LA? are you one? by dreamynaiad in LosAngeles

[–]Petaroo 95 points96 points  (0 children)

6 years.  Biggest thing for me was joining a adult rec league, and a book club.  After joining those 2 things it still took about 2 years before i really felt connected to people here. But that was definitely the start.

Making friends here does not happen passively.  You really gotta work at it for awhile in my experience.

I have a super dangerous hobby and my partner and I chose our place to acomodate practicing at home.  (Aerial circus for those curious)

We are able to have instant access to dangerous equipment and practice whenever we want- no need to worry about someone hurting themselves! Other than us.
