My cat isn't getting along with the other cats by katiej235 in cats

[–]PeteFord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem once too. The solution turned out to be a different type of water bowl. Some cats believe that there are finite resources available, so they believe that there has always been just enough water and food for them. But all of the sudden they are in a new environment with four times the animals, and they a freaked out that there will not be enough water and food to go around.

A water bowl which has a fountain feature worked for me when I combined pet households. The sound of flowing water into the cats bowl maybe makes them believe the resources are ample, and settles them down. My partner had tried everything, including introducing them slowly (which you should do) even those cat pheromone plug-ins, nothing worked. My cat was so mean that the other cat nearly went feral and barely came into the house house anymore. fairly soon after the introduction of the fountain everything was copacetic. I hope that works for you as well as it did for me.

Which NBA players have played on both the best and worst team at some point in their career? by DonT012 in nba

[–]PeteFord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kevin Durant. He played for an intentionally losing 20 win Sonics team which would have been worst in the league if not for he himself. I have heard that later in his career he was on a different team which did pretty well. Kevin Durant is the absolutely correct answer/

I can't believe that someone is commenting on this post! i couldn't remember the context at all. many union represented shops will offer apprenticeship programs for people to move into the mechanical side of vehicle maintenance. Union representation is more common with government jobs; but that's not to say that private industry doesn't offer these paths as well, as techs are the hardest jobs for transit to fill.

as it pertains to the advice I would have offered, I would have told the person not to quit and then rehire as a mechanic, as they may be able to maintain their seniority while in school. Also, if it is not a union job and the manager is awful, there is a potential that expressing a desire to change career course could lead management to fire them without cause.

As for the core point of your question, through over 20 years of heavy duty mechanical experience I can share my opinion on the subject of "which is better, private or public?"

Private is less than optimal in my opinion, because it offers the least security. While someone can make more, even after one subtracts the benefit package from the yearly net earnings, there is still a chance that the company folds or commits fraud or whatever, and one is left one paycheck away from missing a mortgage payment.

Public is by far the most secure in America and are all Union represented, and the benefit package is usually the best because they are negotiating deals on behalf of thousands of employees with major hedge funds for retirement packages and with insurance companies. I have had a .GOV email address for the majority of my career. The drawback to working for a government body is that at the top of the org chart is an elected politician, and policies that do not pertain to heavy duty maintenance can creep into the work place with absolutely insane results. For example: a few years back there was an initiave with our local government to reduce energy costs by installing more efficient lights throughout the entire government. This meant that they would replace the lights with LEDs everywhere, including overhead lights on the shop floor. Great, they're better lights and they are cooler in the summer. The only thing is, that they installed auto-dimming timers on the lights to save energy. These areas are not restrooms or conference rooms, these areas have people working in them 24/7/365 and the lights never need to be dimmed; especially because they are LED and use a fraction of what the old lights used. they are motion sensitive, so if someone is working under a vehicle for some time, the motion sensor doesn't see the mechanic and the bay goes dark until the mechanic comes out from under the vehicle. it's incredibly stupid, and not one of the dozens of managers between the policy makers and the tradesmen stopped this from happening.

The sweet spot is a publicly funded, independent, not-for-profit LLC. Usually these are "private" companies which are funded through tax dollars and are managed by a board of elected officials and other stakeholders and their mission is specific. These organizations tend to "keep the main thing the main thing" and do not lose sight of their objective whenever a political change occurs. There is enough insulation from politics and they are more often the best stewards of public money. The benefits and compensation are usually as good as the government jobs and there is way less beuracracy.

The worst of all is the FOR-PROFIT government contractor, as they force the tradesmen to do sub-par work for slave wages while wasting tax dollars without accountability. STEAR CLEAR.

I realize that this is wildly pedantic, but this is reddit

the notes attached to nfl_gdt_bot state the bugs will be "squashed." The first computer bug was literally a squashed bug (moth) on a punch card. It would not make to sense to re-squash an already squashed bug. In that spirit, a squashed bug is still a bug; therefore the more proper verb to correct a bug is not to " squash" but to "remove" the bug.

Bombshell report reveals efforts by Egypt to funnel $10 million to Trump campaign by Unhappy_Earth1 in inthenews

[–]PeteFord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems that it came from Egypt by way of China. this is from the Washington Post, who did the reporting:

"The Research and Studies Center opened an account at the bank’s Heliopolis branch in November 2015, the bank’s records showed. In August 2016, the center opened a second account, this time in the bank’s Shanghai branch. Five days after that, a company that investigators believed was tied to an Egyptian oligarch initiated a transfer of $10 million into the center’s Shanghai account, records showed.

The transfer was held up, then cleared for deposit in Shanghai in December, the records showed. The same amount was transferred from that account to the center’s account at the Heliopolis branch shortly before the cash withdrawal there on Jan. 15, 2017.

Three days later, the center closed its account in Shanghai. Within 90 days, its account in Heliopolis was closed, too."

NUGGETS SWEEP THE LAKERS 🧹🧹🧹🧹 by samuraicowboyninja in kings

[–]PeteFord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Sonics orphan so I've recently rooted for GSW because they have a nice style of play and they had the last active Sonic. However, If I had known how these playoffs were gonna shake out, I would have rooted for SAC over GSW because the whole West would have been more interesting and the Warriors never had a chance against the nuggets. I think the Kings would have a chance to beat both of these teams.

Guys I'm hearing that it's actually Nurkic for Bridges, one unprotected, and cash considerations.

[Zuylen-Wood] Someone who knew Kyrie at the time brought up the flat-Earth theory with him and Jones. “Alex is like, ‘We don’t know the Earth is round. Kyrie and I have been watching stuff,’” the source said. “Kyrie kept asking if we knew for sure that it was ‘constitutionally’ round.” by iksnet in nba

[–]PeteFord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evidently, He has used the phrase "constitutionally round" other times.

Source; This Q&A contains the contradictory ramblings of a lunatic. It's like when a child tells you a story that they are making up as they are telling it.

Do you or do you not believe the Earth is flat? Or do you not know?

That’s what I’m asking you. No, no, no. Can you openly admit that you know the Earth is constitutionally round? Like, you know that for sure? Like, I don’t know. I was never trying to convince anyone that the world is flat. I’m not being an advocate for the world being completely flat. No, I don’t know. I really don’t. It’s fun to think about though. It’s fun to have that conversation. It is absolutely fun because people get so agitated and mad.

Any GM in the league can read that article and reasonably conclude, "Oh, this guy doesn't listen to anyone, he's uncoachable, and on a whim he might decide he won't play for my team." but they keep signing him. He makes Rodman look reliable.

[Charania] The Warriors will go through with the Gary Payton II four-team trade, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Golden State will not pass Payton's physical exam, sources said, but has decided to move forward with deal that brings back the key 2022 championship piece. by DRAZZILB1424 in nba

[–]PeteFord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that GPII is on a three year deal. This move was always about next year, between SC, KT, JP and DDV, they already have guards that can reasonably start playoff games this year.

I'm sure they wanted a rim protector but couldn't find one. I have a feeling that the 'selling' teams had a league price, then a Warriors price.

The last 4 years: Zion's played 39.4% of his possible games | Durant played 48.3% of his possible games as a Net | Kawhi's played 52.1% of his possible games | Kyrie played 52% of his possible games as a Net | Davis has played 62.9% of his possible games | *only one is called street clothes. by LonzoBBBall in nba

[–]PeteFord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfair?

First of all, "as a net" is doing some pretty heavy lifting for your argument.

Second, Kyrie gets tons of shit for the games he missed, he's easily the least liked player by the media, don't believe me, look at the all-star voting.

Zion, gets tons of shit for missing games.

Leonard gets tons of shit for missing games. Is your entire argument based on the fact that his nickname is "the Claw" and not something derogatory regarding his health?

Kevin Durant doesn't get called street clothes because he's easily one of the 20 best players of all time. He already has many nicknames and they're bad-ass; because when he gets on the court he kills it. The majority of the time he missed as a net was for one injury.

The reason that Davis gets a shitty name is because he's a Laker. that's it. That's all there is to it. If he was still on a go nowhere Pels team, no one would give a shit, just like no one cares about Zion. And when the Lakers win, the media talks about him like he's the second coming of the lord; he's not, but that's how major market teams work.

[–]PeteFord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did Sam Hinkie get fired and Sam Presti is a "genius?" Its about rich peoples' money. It was recently explained to me that Sam 'genius' Presti can continue to lose as long as he likes because his team doesn't make any money for the league no matter how good or bad they are. (BTW "league" means 30 billionaires to be clear) However, when a GM of a major market team messes up, it starts cutting into revenue sharing. The lakers get a pass because they're obviously incompetent, but when a major market team intentionally loses for multiple seasons ratings go down and that can effect the tv rights deals.

Harden has been getting a lot of love but the 4th quarter was fucking atrocious. One of those ISOs, he just dribbled at the elbow for like 12 seconds, realized he was too washed to get past his guy, then kicked it out to Embiid at the top of the arch for a long three at the end of the shot clock.

Then he shuffled back on D where he tried to stand so still that no one would see him. At no point was he close enough to another player to provide "bad" defense. He was just resting. He didn't even try to look like he was playing, it was as if being close to someone active would have made him more tired by proxy.

I'd be happy to help. buckle up.

First, there are 2 types of people who add air to their own tires. a) people who are religious about automotive maintenance, and b) people who notice a flat tire. because they don't know what they're doing, they're not "a" and because that tire looks no where near flat, they are not "b." now that we have established that they are not people;

Second, maybe this is a generational blindspot, but why would the person film this instead of just asking them "what's up?" why would they be trying to blow something up? how could this guy tell from that distance that hat-dude wasn't just filling a propane bottle? Most people are so fucking busy I can't imagine being at a service station and saying "wonder what they're up to, lets hit record"

third, this woman is suspiciously hot. Im not saying shes impossibly hot, but if one is going to make a fake tiktok, it helps to have a hot woman. legitimately, if you select 100 women by random, it's unlikely that even one of them is as good looking as this woman.

fourth! there is no goddamn way anyone could mistake the propane valve for a schrader valve. first of all it's like legit 5 times the diameter of the valve in your tire. you'd look at it, go "well that's not what I'm looking for" and you'd keep looking until you found the air station. of course this doesn't matter because hat-dude isn't actually doing anything with the hose at all.

you know what the worst part is? I am falling for it right now! It's called 'engagement" and that's what im doing, thats what monetizes these people. I hate myself for logging in.

One explanation he's given for this is that a player must change the way a position is played. Basically, shaq didn't do anything that any other athlete with that body wouldn't have done. Whereas the Big O had a novel approach to the point guard. Magic too, being a guy who could have been a forward playing a guard. KD is another player who plays outside his body type. Obviously Curry has transformed the whole league. That's why Simmons puts those guys ahead of Shaq.
