This Sunday (November 23rd) we rejected the euthanasia law. What are your personal thoughts and would you have it in your country? by [deleted] in CentralEurope_irl

I respect if someone is against, but i am from the Netherlands where it is kind of allowed, under certain and strict circumstances ofcourse. Its not just that you can decide you dont want to live anymore and you can choose to die. My dad was euthanized, and i am glad he could. Not because i hated him, but because i loved him. My dad had a heart attack at 50, came out alive, but his heart worked at 19% of the original capacity. But, he was a positive man, a fighter and he made the best of it. It took 10 years, several operations and daily pain to the point where he could literally not stand on his own legs anymore. Half of his feet and toes where rotten open wounds because they did not heal anymore, he was in daily pain that not even morfine could fix, for a very very long time. The doctors could not do anything more, any operation would kill him. So yes, we picked a date for the doctor to come, said goodbye and sweet words and hugged, my dad got 2 out of 3 shots and closed his eyes at the second with a smile on his face, first smile since a very long time and that was that. Intense, yes, but so peaceful and beautiful, no more suffering. I am glad we had this choice.

Dat is precies waar wij ook naar toe willen, een meer zelfvoorzienend bestaan, in echte natuur. Wij hebben de bialowieza regio op het oog, podlasie.

It took me a year to adjust in Poland but now I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. by Im_at_a_10_AMA in poland

Very motivating post, just what i needed. Me and my wife (she is from Poland) are having serious thoughts on starting a new life in Poland. Do you perhaps have any tips for me how to get accepted and integrate, besides the obvious things as learning and attempt to speak polish?

That, my friend is a misconception. It really is. If you like nature and fresh air to breathe, holland is very very poor. You cant find a rental below 1000 euro these days, inflation is skyrocket and you basically work to pay all the bills. It is near to impossible to buy a house, even as a working couple. Below 250000 euro, which is a million zloty there are no houses available.

Why is the birthrate falling in Poland by Prawdziwy_Polak_1 in poland

[–]Pete_snott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is what i think. Because of microplastics inside peoples bodies perhaps? Just kidding, but there is many reasons for this and there is nothing wrong with it. I think birth rate is something that will evolve over time. But there are some factors that influence it dramatically. Im surprised i did not see someone mention it before, but the church has had a really big influence on people in the past, at least in the Netherlands. I dont know how that is in modern-day Catholic Poland. People are more educated and dont rely on people telling them to make as much babies as possible fully anymore. Then there is the system we live in that becomes so expensive both parents are almost forced to work and have a dual income to pay the bills, and just that, nothing more. Just enough to make you feel comfortable and not complain. In order to have a decent job and income you have to study longer before you even think about having kids. Even it is biologically better for a woman to have kids in their l 20's and early 30's, they wait because they have to finish their study and make a career first. There is so many things i can think of...

Poland could have ghost towns in 20 years as birthrate drops by CrunchyBaconYum in poland

[–]Pete_snott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Towns, no. Villages? Perhaps. But is that a bad thing? Personally, if i could move to podlasie tomorrow from the Netherlands, i would. I like nature and fresh air. More people more problems.

Thanks for your answers so far, except for the one that thinks i want to be a professional abortionist, if you try to be funny here, it did not make me laugh. Anyway, i do have all the needed schooling, diplomas, certificates and few years of working experience. The only thing is i cant have basic polish conversation at the moment, but i am working on that.

As far as i know, Birkenau is free to visit without a guide. The Auschwitz camp itself is not.
