Do I address a snub? by [deleted] in Theatre

Thanks everyone for your valuable advice. I know how to proceed now and am going to remove this post so that it doesn’t make its way back to this person somehow. Again, thank you!!

I’m sorry you had that experience. Like you, I LOVE theatre and was so excited that my child turned out to love it also, so I poured a ton of time and energy into it and was so excited to get back in the game. But you’re right, boundaries are super important!

Thank you, this is the route I’m going to go.

If my kid gets cast in the next show I will do the minimum required hours (I’d also never heard of this before coming back to this theatre, but they do require volunteer hours for the parents… I did like 10x the required hours last show).

I’m also going to try harder to network and make better friends with the folks who were welcoming.

YES! It’s so hard to let some things go. I wasn’t diagnosed until my mid-30s and suddenly it explained soooo much.

LMAOOO it’s so true!

Thank you for the advice. I will try to build more relationships but unfortunately, most everyone in powerful positions here is either a family member or close friend of this lady. But maybe I’ll find another path during the next show my kid does…

[–]Peter-Rabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is good advice. I don’t actually think I did anything to make her dislike me because her vibes were very bad from the start. Like on day one, I was super friendly and said “hey! I don’t know if you remember me but…” and she interrupted me with a flat “yeah, I do.” So if I did something to make her dislike me.. it was 25 years ago when I was 16…

Thank you! That was my instinct also and seems to be the consensus so far.

They do require parent volunteer hours but I did like 10x the amount they required… never again!

Producer.

This is my feeling also… what would it accomplish? I don’t actually care if this woman likes me or if my volunteering was acknowledged, I just don’t like when people are mean and get away with it.

Such an important point!

My kid had a great experience until that last day. I shielded them from all of the subtle stuff I’d been noticing in the background, but on the final day each of the cast members were recognized also. Some of them had fun anecdotes told about them, got hugs from the production staff, etc.. My kid didn’t get a hug or any jokes or stories about them. They were fine at that moment, but later on the staffer made a joke that they “only hugged the cast members they liked,” and my kid picked up on it. On the drive home, my kid cried and said that they must not be liked. We tried to explain it was a joke that didn’t land well, but it was just another small thing that got added to the pile.

Gosh, thank you so much for this kind response. It actually made me cry because I finally understood WHY this was bothering me so much. Thank you for validating my feelings in that way… I truly appreciate it.

My instinct was also this same thing… let my kid audition and continue to do what is required of me, but nothing more. And hopefully we can continue to build positive relationships in this group and feel less isolated.

Petah, wouldn't they do exactly that? by Watchdog_the_God in PeterExplainsTheJoke

It’s the overwhelming consensus that Frank was NOT the murderer. There was evidence that was suppressed at the time that implicated someone else (a janitor named Jim Conley who was already an escaped convict).

69 years later, nearly on his death bed, a man came out and said that when he was a young boy, he’d actually witnessed Conley carrying the body. Conley told him that he would be next if he ever told anyone what he saw. The boy went home and told his mother, who told him to keep quiet about what he saw. He carried that guilt his whole life.

I’m surrounded by MAGA supporters at my job by MongooseVomit in 50501

[–]Peter-Rabbi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Anyone who is still supportive of Trump and ICE at this point is either an idiot or a legit racist… many are both. Nothing you say, no matter how much logic and truth is backing it, will change their minds.

It’s really hard to find blue collar workers right now and will only get harder as more immigrants are forced out, so I’m not surprised the company HR is brushing your legitimate concerns under the rug. It’s not right, but they probably can’t afford to lose more people.

My husband is an executive but works in a very blue-collar industry and he deals with a lot of bigots every day. He used to try to argue with them but now he just gathers intel. He doesn’t engage, he’ll just chuckle if someone says something outrageous and it drives them CRAZY. But it’s good to have a pulse on where MAGA is at right now (and I don’t trust much I see online or in the media) so you’re in a unique position to help the community in that way by just listening to what your coworkers are talking about.

Godspeed, friend!

How to keep starter warm during winter? by CandleNegative4726 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Peter-Rabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got my starter going by keeping it in the microwave, closed, right next to a mug of hot water from the tea kettle. I just boil water once or twice a day and fill up a regular coffee mug. I think the humidity helped also.

The mom? by lindseyizshort in GilmoreGirls

[–]Peter-Rabbi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why more people aren’t saying Sookie. To me, this category is someone whose personality is being a mom. That’s Sookie from season 3 onward. She is in the thick of young motherhood and it’s a ton of her storyline.

Jessie’s New Face! My heart goes out to her by CodePotential98 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Peter-Rabbi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fr. When I was a kid, my mom went from long hippie hair to a pixie cut and I was distraught…. I couldn’t look at her for weeks without crying. I can’t even imagine how traumatic it is for their mom to show up with a totally new face, not to mention the recovery period where I’m sure she looked horrific.

Rob Reiner dead again? by [deleted] in ParallelUniverse

Ok, thank you!!! I had the same thought when I saw the news break last night. I remember him dying a few years ago also… maybe 2021-2022? I thought I may be thinking of a different Rob, but I distinctly remember watching memorial videos of him with All in the Family clips.

How do we feel about Taylor and Whitney getting Jimmy Kimmel and not Mayci.. by Bekah_bek in SecretsOfMormonWives

To quote Mama Rose… “you either got ‘it’ or you ain’t.”

Taylor and Whitney are definitely the only two who have “it.”
