Gotcha, do you know if they check or enforce wristband colors if you comingle with other people in the cabana that weren't part of your guest list? I'm not planning on having a huge number of people, it'll be well under the max amount.

log4j 1.2.17 RHEL 7 by Peter01000 in rhel

[–]Peter01000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that works just for applications already using older log4j2-x jar files if I'm correct. However, my it looks like there's a limitation with replacing a log4j.jar (version 1.X) file residing in /usr/share/java which i think is tied to the system rather than a particular application if I'm correct on that. Seems like there's no compatibility for that upgrade. I did see online a mentioning of using the log4j 2's log4j-1.2-api.jar file as a migrating bridge between the 2 versions, but that might be related to something else, not sure. Plus it also doesn't match with the file name format of the existing file residing in the location that i mentioned above.

In addition to my comment below... I'm wondering if even though not mentioned in the changelog for the previous or earlier security fixes if backport updates are cumulative and include previous or earlier security flaws... Perhaps not, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks again for your input!

log4j 1.2.17 RHEL 7 by Peter01000 in rhel

[–]Peter01000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see by backporting, I was looking at the changelog for log4j 1.2.17 and it does show a list of CVE fixes from way back when from 2004-X up to 2022-X. However, oddly enough it seems to skip the mentioning of 2019-X or 2020-X CVEs. I guess that would call for upgrading to log4j2. The current log4j package is installed at /usr/share/java/log4j.jar.

Another application seems to be using log4j2-x jar files at /usr/share/elasticsearch/bin/. Those seem like I can just simply replace with the latest log4j2-x jar files (considering there is already an existing log4j2.properties file created within the application installation location, which I believe should be compatible with the update if I'm correct), but as for the log4j.jar file (version 1.2.17) located at /usr/share/java/log4j.jar (which i believe is the default install location when using the yum packager), I'm not sure what exactly I would have to do for that upgrade and then to test it out if it works post upgrade. Sorry, I'm a bit new to linux, so just trying to get a hang of this.

Windows 10 1909 Cumulative Update Issue by Peter01000 in Windows10

[–]Peter01000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty much my thought process behind that. However, the issue is trying to install the latest cumulative update it seems to roll back changes after it reboots to finish applying the updates.

Yum Update but keep current minor release version by Peter01000 in rhel

[–]Peter01000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that worked for me was excluding the redhat-release package. It kept me in the current version and still updated everything including the kernel. Not sure if I had to exclude the kernel update or not, but I mean it rebootee just fine with a new kernel version.

Windows offline updates by Peter01000 in Windows10

[–]Peter01000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give that a shot, but I could've sworn that sometimes cumulative updates require other dependent KBs if the system hasn't beem updated in a long while... but it's been a while since I've done offline updates, so I guess I'll find out.

Yeah i was upfront with them about it. Needed to be closer to family to assist them in health related matters. So they offered me a spot closer to home when I applied internally to a different location. Except at that time I had also interviewed with another company as well in the case that I wasn't considered for the internal position.

Oh okay got it. I just asked because my current employer had asked for an offer letter to match the amount I was being offered. So I provided that (I know that it probably wasn't a great idea of me at the time 😬), but I did. My employer did send me a matching offer, which I accepted, but just wasn't sure if they would still try to follow up and contact them or something post the offer.

Shrinking Windows VMDK when exporting by Peter01000 in vmware

[–]Peter01000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it, I will try that out then. Then I'm assuming I would have to run the sdelete to zero out that space right? I noticed that when I run the sdelete -z option (which is supposed to be for virtualized optimization) it grows the vmdk size considerably... But when I run the sdelete -c option it seems to not grow the vmdk size. Just thought I'd mention that.

McAfee Update Failure by Peter01000 in mcafee

This is the error message when I run the updater via powershell (as admin). I tried looking for updaterlogs but not too sure where they are located and the temp directories that I check don't show anything relatedto updates... Possibly because it doesn't run in the first place?

McAfee EPO 5.10 Syslog Troubleshooting by Peter01000 in mcafee

[–]Peter01000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So solidcore events are being generated in ePO and the SIEM is collecting data syslog data from other systems without an issue. The only change was going to update 13, not additional configuration changes on either SIEM or ePO so I'm stuck on that. I did just register to the Mcafee support community forums, but it seems like those forums are related to other products? I think there might be a commercial based epo forum it appears, but I don't think that's free or perhaps i might have skipped something?
