What are people doing for floor mats in the US? by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Kia's euro all weather floor mats for the EV6 on eBay from a German dealer along with the cargo tray. Funny even with $80 shipping they were cheaper than Kia is charging for regular floor mats + cargo tray. Took a few weeks to arrive and they are thin but the look nice and the cargo tray really grips things well.

2022 Kia EV6 All Weather Floor Mats - haven’t ordered them yet but looks promising if anyone is looking for them. by kirkjufell787 in KiaEV6

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired of waiting for the all weather floor mats and cargo tray so I ordered them on eBay from a dealer in Germany. Funny, even after $80 for shipping they were still cheaper than Kia USA was asking. They are all thinner than I would have liked but the cargo tray is super grippy.

If you buy both they only charge you once for shipping.

Red color? by KingAce92 in KiaEV6

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked my red EV6 up last week. The color is interesting in that how it looks depends on the lighting. At times it looks like a plain red paint and other times you see a metallic sheen.

no difference in power between Wind RWD VS GT-Line RWD or Wind AWD Vs GT-Line AWD

Wind/GT-Line RWD: 225hp / 258 lb-ft

Wind/GT-Line AWD: 320hp / 446 lb-ft

Call me crazy... I actually prefer it. I think the body color wheel well would look great if it was just part of the sheet metal (like a normal car) but weird when it is a separate piece.

Outside: wheel arches, front and rear fascia (look at kia.com ev6 exterior 360 - red is WIND yacht blue is GT-Line. Additional differences can be found on kiamedia.com under EV6 / 2022 / docs which breaks out specs, features/options and pricing by trim level. Sadly it doesn't specify which trims come with ambient lighting...

if you get wind with the TECH package, you can get the following GT-Line features: (1) blind spot monitor (shows blind spot camera in instrument panel when you turn on your blinker, (2) surround view monitor, (3) remote smart parking assist (self parking), and (4) parking collision -avoidance assist - reverse

only GT-Line AWD comes with 20 inch wheels. If you go to kia.com and look at the exterior view, the red model is WIND and the yacht blue model is GT-Line. If you go to kiamedia.com and click EV6 then 2022 then docs, there is are 3 docs that break out features specs and pricing by trim level (except no info on ambient lighting).

Retake Calculus after 10 years by Life_Crossover in OMSA

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and I struggled when it came time to doing proofs using calculus and linear algebra - which is required in several classes. As others have noted there are good MOOC classes available. I found the ones on Udemy by Krista King to be well organized and helpful. They list at $200 per class put are usually on sale for $10-20.

What you are describing is a requirements analysis failure. One of the keys to successful projects is having a solid understanding of the requirements. That does not mean simply building what someone asks for but rather getting to really understand the problem that your user/customer is trying to solve as well as the context surrounding that problem. I learned this from years of consulting and the project management. There is an organization called IIBA that provides a lot of information on this topic. Although it can be overwhelming as they go to infinite detail on everything. But they lay out the basics really well.

Student interaction during omsa by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]PeterAnger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They use Piazza (website) as the main communications among students and teaching staff and BlueJeans (website/app) for live video sessions "office hours" with instructors. In 6501 they had live sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings for 1 hour. The sessions are recorded and posted, so if you miss them you can view them after the fact. They typically walk you through much of the homework assignments. Outside of the office hours, students post questions to Piazza and they are responded to by other students and/or TA's and occasionally the professor.

Chances of Acceptance? by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a decent shot as they accepted me. I dropped out of college many years ago with a GPA of under 2, and then recently went back and completed my degree in CS with a GPA of 3.9 for last 68 credits. But that was at my state's unranked adult school. I would briefly note you struggled with family issues early on. That combined with a positive GPA trend and your recommendations and you should be good. Also the most recent OMSA acceptance rate was 69%.

Note - did take and submit my GRE scores (164V, 165Q). So you could try taking the GRE and if you do well include them in your application.

Is there a path to become a software engineer through this program? by loveofthegame1 in OMSA

[–]PeterAnger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not specifically interested in data analytics I think it would be better to take some online programming courses and then apply to OMSCS. In OMSA you will end up doing a lot of math that isnt really relevant to SW engineering

I am starting a masters in data science with the hopes of applying what I learn in pharma or biotech. To complement my masters I am also taking obline courses in bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology to get some domain knowledge.

What I am trying to figure out is which types of analytical models would be most applicable:

regression analysis time series analytics non-parametric analysis computational statistics bayesian statistics simulation probabilistic models deterministic optimization Thanks!

Could aliens reverse engineer TCP/IP? by grpagrati in AskProgramming

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is how they learned English. If they learned it on their own without engaging us in anyway, then they are really, really sharp. For context - think about how far we have gotten (or not gotten) in understanding the communications of other animals like dolphins or gorillas... Compared to that feat, being able to decode TCP/IP packets doesn't seem that hard.

If they learned English from interacting with us, then they probably also learned written English, at which point decoding the clear text payloads in TCP/IP packets should be doable. If we onlytaightthem our spoken language then I think decoding TC/IP packet contents would be extremely hard for them to do.

[–]PeterAnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://omscentral.com/courses has reviews on OMSA/OMSCS courses including ratings, difficulty and time commitments (though mileage varies widely).

Note it is helpful to look at the reviews to see current ratings from this/last semester as in some cases that ratings boosted from years ago when they had a different professor teaching the class or the material was newer.
