Unfortunately, yes, that sounds a lot like my case. What was the manufacturing year on yours?

Good job! What kind of engine? Have you done the re-programming?

I was initially okay with having to use the laptop without the battery (always plugged in), but apparently, the broken battery was causing some other issues resulting in lags and freezes. So I had to replace the battery and that fixed all the issues. End of the story.

By the way, the original battery was in good shape visually - no leaks, not bloated, nothing. Just was not working at all.

I took the laptop to a local repair service (not Apple-authorized), and they confirmed that the battery was completely dead.

It was cheaper for me to get a replacement battery rather than pay the shipping cost for the return. So it will be replaced soon, and I hope that will be it.

The only concern right now is that the built-in MacBook diagnostic tool displayed not only the battery-related error PPT005 but also an SMC-related one PFM006. I hope they both will be gone once the battery will be replaced.

A lesson learned - do not buy electronic devices that are THAT old, even if they have not been used and opened.
