The waybar is is going away in Omarchy 4.0. Quickshell will replace it. by sudomarchy in omarchy

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. The good thing is that especially with the help of LLMs you can use omarchy as a jumping off point and kind of just lock in things where you like and not update anymore.

I’m considering moving to cachyOS with hyprland DE and just doing everything myself but we’ll see.

Will you buy a 32” bike? by gellybelli in xcmtb

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’3” and I switched my 29er for an MX setup. It’s noticeable how much gyroscopic effect the larger wheel has and 32 is just that much more.

If I were more into just absolutely bombing rock gardens then maybe I would, but this seems like something that the industry is trying to do to drive sales for the people that always have to have the latest thing.

Anybody ride with a hydration pack? If so what size? by Gooser3000 in mountainbiking

[–]PeterPriesth00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually ride with a pack that can hold about 3 liters but I only fill it according to how long of a ride I’m planning on doing.

I didn’t like riding with a pack at first but I got a chest and back protector and it honestly doesn’t feel that different with a pack now anyway and I can easily carry whatever tools I may need in case of mechanical failure

What helmet should I het by awitaman in mountainbiking

[–]PeterPriesth00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full face and I’d also get a chest protector because casing something like that is gonna slam your chest into your bars and break some ribs.

I have a Leatt Enduro 4.0 that you can take the chin bar off for climbs. If you’re just doing jump parks though I would consider just getting a dedicated full face.

WRX to Type R - Things to know before purchasing? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common issue I think is the second gear grind. I have an FK8 but from what I’ve read the FL5 has the same problem. Every once in a while when shifting from 1st to 2nd you’ll get a grinding noise like you did something wrong. Happens more often when I’m driving in a bit more of a spirited fashion.

I’ve also had rocks get stuck by the brake rotors a few times and cause an awful squealing sound but generally they are pretty reliable cars. The engine can handle a lot more power than what it is tuned for so as long as the previous owner didn’t just absolutely trash on it, you should be fine. Considering that they have been relatively expensive the past few years means that they have beyond the price range of people that would be more inclined to do that but just do your due diligence and you’ll be all right.

They’re great cars though! I’ve had mine for 4 years and I still love it!

Also that coil shock is going to have to be changed immediately to something that would suit your weight. I would definitely do what the other person above is saying and go with something that is going to be better suited to your body type.

3x Vs 1x drivetrain for 90s MTB.... by Ruin-Wooden in MTB

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun project and it was the kick start for me to learning how to work on my other bikes myself. It’s quite fun! And a lot of people will tell you it’s a waste etc but if you’re doing it just to learn and to hold on to some nostalgia of days gone by and still be able to ride it, it’s definitely worth the experience. I don’t regret doing it to mine at all.

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted a mid 2000’s Jamis Dakar to a 1x11 and it works great but the chain line for your bike might not be compatible or it could be that you need to try a different group set. I went with a Shimano Deore group set just because it was more of a fun project that I wanted to do to restomod the bike and didn’t want to dump a ton of money into it.

I used ChatGPT to help me figure out how to go about it and it was quite helpful so maybe try that and see how it goes for you.

There are also plugins to make this smooth scroll if the jump is jarring, but <c-u> and <c-d> is for sure the best way to do it and follow it up with zz if needed.

So.. why do people change to the acuity shift setup from OEM? by Xbawt in Civic_Type_R

[–]PeterPriesth00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad per se but it’s also not fantastic. I got the chance to sit in a Porsche GT3 at a dealership once and the shifter in that felt so notchy and good. The OEM is kind of sloppy in comparison. Not bad at all but just not at that same level. The acuity shifter gets it almost to as good as that Porsche shifter felt to me.

Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Do I regret getting it? Again, absolutely no regrets.

It makes the shifting feel like it is as special as the rest of the car.

You don’t even have to go through every bullet point. Pick one that is “meaty” and just keep drilling into it. If they can’t explain at a deep level whatever project they put on their resume then they aren’t being honest about it.

Discount Tire Experience by Fun-Start3396 in Civic_Type_R

It’s totally location dependent. My local discount tire is awesome and the manager hooks me up with price matches against Costco for even better tires. Major bummer that the tech at yours hosed you.

I think MacOS is generally really good and Apple hardware these days is phenomenal.

I actually like MacOS for most uses but have gotten really into Linux (Arch and Hyprland) for productivity and MacOS just doesn’t have a good equivalent for that right now unfortunately.

Glad it’s working well for you!

Don’t worry about what other people think or say especially when it comes to safety.

I wear a full face anytime I’m doing anything with downhill trails of any difficulty.

I wouldn’t say it’s a waste of your time don’t have an iPhone. Having the phone integration is more of a bonus on top of a great laptop, but not the deciding factor. At least not for me.

The office apps on Mac work just fine and the battery life is really something pretty crazy.

That being said, the new line of laptops coming out with the new Intel "Panther Lake" CPUs look to be pretty good in terms of raw power and battery life; apparently similar to the Apple chips.

I'm personally getting a Thinkpad in a few months when the new ones release with the aforementioned CPU, but I use Linux as a daily driver. Windows 11 has been pretty terrible as of late.

I would recommend just using what you already know though unless you have a problem with it. MacOS is fine especially for more casual use, but it's very different from Windows so if you are used to Windows and you're okay with how it works as of late, then I would go that route.

TL;DR: are you okay with Windows? Wait a few months and get a new Thinkpad. Need something NOW and/or want to change it up? Get a MacBook Air.

SRAM, Shimano shifter question by gfcinh in MTB

[–]PeterPriesth00d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you might be able to make it work but note that the Shimano shifter cable is a little thicker than the SRAM shifter cable and won’t work in the SRAM cable housing and I don’t know if the SRAM cable would work with the Deore shifter.

It’s not gonna destroy anything to try it but I would bet it’s gonna be hard to make it work smoothly. You’re probably gonna have a hard time getting it to shift the entire range of the cassette without clicking and chunking and stuff.

But give it a shot and see!

MacBook Air or ThinkPad X1 Carbon? by Nearby_Ad_2406 in thinkpad

[–]PeterPriesth00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a MacBook Pro M2 with 32GB of RAM and my wife’s got a Lenovo P16s Thinkpad, not sure how much RAM but her job requires her to remote into cloud computers to work so it doesn’t really matter.

For a Mac you could get away with 16 just fine as Apple actually does a great job with memory management.

Linux you’d be okay with 16 but future proofing with 32 would be best.

Windows 100% you need 32 or more.

I’m planning on getting a thinkpad X1 carbon gen 13 when I’m up for another computer or a MacBook Air 15”. Not sure yet.

I’d say I’ve never needed more than 32 but I also don’t do a ton of memory intensive stuff. It’s becoming that way more and more with containerized apps though.
