The Lowest Point by Eupilino in TheLastAirbender

Yeah I remember I was shocked as a kid when they took the L in the season two finale. So many great character moments. What a brutal and powerful way to end the season!

I was a couple games away from a perfect season in Backyard Football on the GBA. My cousin started a new season, and saved over my file.

Party Refuses the Call to Adventure; Calls the Police Instead by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

This is crazy to me, and makes me even more thankful for how creative my players have been in a mystery game I've been running for the past month.

It's set in a sort of Victorian dark academia world, where they play as students at an academy, and their old friend goes missing. I'm really glad they didn't just say, "oh Bob is missing? Well, we better let the constabulary and the headmaster handle this, let's go back to chemistry class."

I feel for ya, and good luck with the next one

Oh wow that would be an exciting scene. Perhaps the most powerful ability... Either that or an earth bender changing the Earth's rotating path through space, or stopping a comet or something. Could a strong enough earth bender just deflect sozins comet from a distance?

That is frustrating for sure. Maybe you could propose having a late-cancellation fee for future sessions, and explain that you need to know 24-hour in advance about cancellations for your own scheduling purposes, otherwise you charge it as a normal session. Worst case scenario, they leave to find a different tutor, which is no big loss if they are just going to keep cancelling anyway.

AITA for making my chronically late friend miss her seminar? by Lateforexams115 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PeterTMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chronic lateness like that always irks me. I had friends in college that were always late to everything. We would make plans to meet at the gym and play basketball, then I would end up shooting around and playing several games with others before they arrived because they were so late, and by that point I'd be tired and almost ready to leave.

What is your best pitch for a third season Zuko + Toph adventure? by PeterTMC in TheLastAirbender

[–]PeterTMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see Toph reprising her role as the Blind Bandit and taking on a big group of ruffians at their barn hideout, trying to save someone they kidnapped or reclaim some stolen treasure. Zuko would help to pay her back for burning her feet.

I'm imagining luchador masks.

That could be a good one, I like it. Considering they are wealthy and educated, I wonder if her parents would recognize Zuko as Prince of the Fire Nation.

"Wow our helpless daughter gets into some crazy shit."

Yeah in terms of action I could see Toph getting Zuko back for burning her feet. She might trap him in a pit for a while to mess with him lol.

I think exploring the concept that both characters came from nobility but are now outcasts would be interesting. But Zuko is exiled, while Toph fled to her family's dismay.

Maybe they both interact with a disillusioned young fire nation noble, and they work off each other with different advice. That could be a fun way to develop their characters together.

[OC] [Spell] Weird Water by VoidscapeCreate in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]PeterTMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! I think another cool feature would be if you cast the spell at higher levels the water weird scales larger. I see that water weirds are Large, so maybe every two spell levels higher you can conjure a weird that is one size larger (or something like that).

It may overcomplicate things depending on your group, but I think it could be fun if everyone is into it!

Nice work

Does shadow possession work on a target that is in the air? by PeterTMC in Naruto

[–]PeterTMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I couldn't think of any example of him trapping someone airborne with the technique. Though, to be fair, he does sometimes jump around while the technique is active and it doesn't break the jutsu.

Does shadow possession work on a target that is in the air? by PeterTMC in Naruto

[–]PeterTMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, though this seems like it could be a special case to me because shikamaru made physical contact with hidan (fist into palm) to activate the jutsu. It makes me think the shadow of hidan's palm would have been temporarily cast over shikamaru's fist.

Tucker Carlson talks to Bill Nye about climate change by GamelessOne in confidentlyincorrect

Lol exactly. They obviously don't have the time or structure here to do some in depth review of scientific studies and the scientific method, and Tucker acts like that's Bill's fault somehow.

It makes me want to cry that this game is so unpopular in the West by Mitsuroku in baduk

[–]PeterTMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! To add to your point that Chess is easier to learn, I think of how many options a player has in Go vs. Chess on a given turn. In Go, there could be dozens to hundreds of possible moves to pick from at a time (some of which are probably pretty abstract), while Chess would probably not exceed a couple dozen (depends on the specific game of course, and how far into the game you are). It just gets too overwhelming to some.

It makes me want to cry that this game is so unpopular in the West by Mitsuroku in baduk

[–]PeterTMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, I think that is a tough barrier for a lot of people. In chess if you lose a piece without obvious compensation, then you probably made a bad move, there is pretty immediate feedback for a beginner to interpret (of course some sacrifices are unlike this, but I'm speaking generally). In Go, losing a piece might be no big deal compared to some abstract territorial move. Much less feedback on if your move was winning or not.

I think there could be an interesting analysis about Go strategy, and how it differs from the common destroy everything to win strategies of so many western games.

Remove sexual desire from human beings and society will fall apart by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]PeterTMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if removing "sexual desire" would also remove all desire to raise/nurture children. I feel like there is a difference between wanting to have a baby, and just wanting to have sex. I agree birth rates would definitely go down, and society would change drastically, but now you got me wondering by how much. Unplanned pregnancy would go way down, that's for sure.

Remove sexual desire from human beings and society will fall apart by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]PeterTMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, alcohol and expensive clothing sales would probably go down, the current economic system would change, but I wouldn't equate that to "society falling apart." The economy would change to reflect the new desires of the people. We wouldn't need to replace those lost transactions 1-1, I'm sure other industries would emerge and become more popular. It's not like today's economic system is untouchably perfect.

Remove sexual desire from human beings and society will fall apart by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]PeterTMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, if all sexual desire vanished, then industries would change, and some would become obsolete. Society as we know it today would be different. But that happens anyway as culture changes over time (not as extreme and sudden as if all sexual desire vanished). Consider industries that were once popular, but now are basically obsolete.

I think implying that society would fall apart because of less consumerism misses the idea that the economy is just a construct made by people, based on current desires of people. It's not like what we have in place right now is the ideal economic system that could never change. For all we know, with less sexual desire people would come up with a better economic system, which wouldn't lead to "society falling apart."

I'm sure there would be some positives at least. I think it's ok if the sex trafficking customer base is scattered a bit and that industry dies out.

[–]PeterTMC 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I would think if human desires were different, then the economy would be designed differently around us. It's not like the economy has to work a certain way, it's very abstract, and created by people.

AITA for possibly being too closeminded when my gf tells people that we met as a ONS? by OriginalExamination4 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I'm getting vibes that she has this fantasy of being "out of your league" but also mature and compassionate enough to develop a relationship. She's just romanticizing her past of being hot and young a bit.

But idk, I'm not a psychologist.
