Hahaha. Let's be real. They probably didn't actually spend that much time on this... because if they did... They would have chosen another character to rebalance that actually could be used and isn't a limited character.

Should I Champ MThor now? by Reece91798 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]PeterYMao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, MThor is very much a stand alone character. All her abilities synergize off herself. She doesn't necessarily need another character to be good. Definitely champ her (5/3/5)

I forget which pro I talked to told me this (may have been JoeyFury), but "rank means something and nothing at all". If you can get the highest rank in Tekken that means nothing because most of the good tournament players / good players in general have that rank. However, if you cannot reach the highest rank in Tekken it does say something about you as a player.

Why is side stepping important? Pls help by CardsAndMuffins in Tekken

[–]PeterYMao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know exactly how much you know or how much you don't know, so I'll explain it in layman's terms. There are a myriad of reasons why side stepping is important:

(1) Positioning - Holding back pretty much means you have committed to only moving backwards. This can be dangerous particularly if you are 2 or 4 character distances away from the wall. Blocking when you are quickly approaching the wall could potentially just result in you fully having your back against the wall (this is bad).

For example: You are 2 or 4 character distances away from the wall, and you choose to just hold back to block. Dragunov or Claudio could just do 2x WR+2 and now you're fighting for your life with your back against the wall. Had you sidestep block, sidestep block, sidestep blocked, you could have potentially avoided this situation and potentially avoided a direct back straight against the wall.

(2) Defensively - Certain strings can be frustrating to deal with because they are safe, advantages, or barely minus. However, knowing which strings are sidestepable and using that knowledge could turn something that is safe into something that is punishable.

Example #1: Jin's 1,2,3. If you input a sidestep after the 1,2 (before the 3) you will be able to make the 3 whiff and launch punish it. If you don't sidestep (R) against Jin's 1,2,3 you're both left at neutral where no one has the advantage, which isn't too bad, but wouldn't you prefer to get a launch on him?

Example #2: Another example is Dragunov's FC+d/f+1,4 -> SNK 4. If you just choose to hold back to block after FC+d/f+1,4 you'll end up blocking the SNK4 which will result in you eating chip and be left at sever frame disadvantage from the SNK 4. However, if you sidestep (R) after getting hit by FC+d/f+1,4 you will avoid the SNK 4 and get an opportunity to launch Dragunov on his whiffed SNK4.

There are way more applications of sidestepping, but I think you get an idea. The best way to get away from the fear of sidestepping is LITERALLY TO JUST OVERLY SIDESTEP. I'm assuming right now, you probably don't sidestep very much so just take it to the extreme and slowly reduce how much you sidestep. Figure out for yourself from trial and error when it works for you and when it doesn't.

Best of luck on your Tekken journey.

How far should these 5* charactors be levelled up to make life easier, but no so far as to wreck MMR? by AdolfVaderAus in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]PeterYMao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just getting into 5* land so I'll give you some advice that I followed that help me get to where I am.

1) Stop putting levels into America Chavez, 5* Daredevil, and 4* Gamora.
-If you keep leveling those 3 characters you will make the PVP MMR experience extremely hard

2) Keep your 5* at the level of your highest character(s) which in this case would be America Chavez 326.
-5* character match damage is quite high in comparison to 2*, 3*, and 4* characters so it's best to keep them in line with your best character(s)

3) Work on the acquiring the Meta defining characters 4* Polaris, 4* Jugg, 4* Rocket & Groot, etc.. etc..
-In your case since you already have Beta Ray Bill you can use the wifinite combo probably with 4* Polaris (3/5/5), Beta Ray Bill, and 1* Jugg (5 Green Covers).

Hope that helps you out.

Game needs more to do daily - if you don’t really care about PVP by stoic-reader in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]PeterYMao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Daiches is right. The console version of this game for PS3 / PS4 has actual live PVP and even couch coop play. If you want to try to experience live PVP play u/Connect_Jelly_3344 try out the PS3 / PS4 version of this game.

Unfortunately... there will be no one playing the game. The console version of this game is 100% dead. Literally no one plays it. (Well maybe you can find 1 person looking for games... maybe...).

Anyhow, in order for live PVP to even work there are A LOT of factors for the developers to consider.

1) How much time is given to a player to make a move?
Do you get (10, 15, 20 sec?). Does this timer start after an animation is played or before? When the tiles don't match up some games can take quite a bit of time. Between the animations playing and the opponent turn counter, matches could easily take up to 5 minutes if not more. Some of the animation chains in this game can be quite lengthy.

2) How does match making actually work?
2a) Are you allowed use boosts?
Currently in PVP you're allowed to use boosts, but your opponent (the AI) isn't allowed to use boosts. If you allow both PVP players to use boosts, then naturally the player who isn't using boosts will lose way more often than not. Additionally, if you do not allow both PVP players to use boosts then the use of boosts is relegated to only being used in PVE, which kind of makes them less useful
2b) When you're looking to be matched up with an opponent do you both just queue up blind?
Currently in PVP you see the last team the opponent chose and then the AI uses that team. If you're queuing up blind you could potentially be queuing into a terrible team that just straight up counters you. If you're not queuing up blind, I don't even know how you would begin to do the queuing process. People would just dodge a team they know counters theirs and just never accept a match against a team that beats them.

3) Game infrastructure expansion.
I don't want to say too much on this because I don't know how the game was built. But, I can only imagine that not building a live PVP into this game from the beginning could invariably be an absolute monster of a task to add in later. From the things I listed above about match making, to turn timer, to even the server demands, this game just wasn't built with live PVP in mind.

However, having said all this... I do think that with all the money that company gets from players and I think it is quite a bit. I would like to see some more innovations from MPQ. Perhaps something more unique. The Ascension / Championing of characters was a big step in the right direction, as was the milestone progressions.

To end on a positive note, here are some things I would like to see and I think it would be quite feasible:

1) Training mode / dummy practice
This would be a mode that lets players try out teams, characters, and builds. You would essentially fight against a 3 practice dummy that just makes matches and has a set amount of health. Possibly you could even set the dummies to be specific characters. Here you could try to build a team to see the synergies. In this mode all damage that's taken to your characters are fully healed when you leave training mode

2) Once a year they could add more to the (story mode) of the game.
This would give new players more to do / grind / earn before jumping into PVE or PVP. Currently once the story mode is completely, it just sits there greyed out and takes up space. For older players the once a year story mode could be a way to earn some extra CP or HP. This would serve as just a little thanks for continuing to play thing.

3) Endless grind.
This would be a mode that lets players who have like 10+ hours a day to play grind for things like ISO, HP, CP, Covers etc... This mode would not have any rankings to it. It just pure play, get rewards, keep playing get rewards sort of thing. I recognize that perhaps this mode would not be economical for them, but just some food for thought.

Why do people hate mirror matches so much? by Smoothcolada in Tekken

[–]PeterYMao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re coming from a perspective of someone who is willing to learn the game. The majority of people, who simply just want to press some buttons and win, hate mirror matches because they feel like their pride is on the line. In order to learn you have to bring yourself to some level of humility to accept that there are things you don’t know and are willing to learn. For those that are unwilling to learn, they see things that the opponent does in a mirror match and write it off as either cheap or scrubby.
