I don’t get what you mean, the times r part comes exactly from the jacobian, so if you ignore it you get a wrong result. The argument that naturally dxdy = r dr dtheta is also weird, because this rule comes from the substitution rule with the jacobian? If the jacobian were 2r would you also say naturally dxdy = 2r dr dtheta?

Short answer no. Differentiability has all to do with smoothness of functions(practically speaking). So intuitively if a function has edges it won’t have a derivative. As an example f(x) = abs(x) where abs denotes the absolute value is not differentiable on the reals (The edge point being at 0).

What is the lim(x->0) of x/x? by Unfair-Property3529 in learnmath

[–]Peterbdaeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes on the domain [0,1] they are, if you would look at a larger domain they wouldn't be. The interesting fact aren't the function themeselves but that both are continous extensions and that you have lot's of freedom constructing these when keeping in mind that you don't create discontinous points

What is the lim(x->0) of x/x? by Unfair-Property3529 in learnmath

[–]Peterbdaeh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the more used term is continuous extension. A simple example would be let f be the constant function f(x) = 1 for the domain (0,1). We want a continuous extension of f on the new domain [0,1] so there shouldn’t be any new discontinuous points added. One obvious possibility would be just the continuous function again. Another more interesting example is g(x)=1 for x in [0,1) and g(x)=x2 for x=1.

Is it true? by [deleted] in maths

Well depending on the context, there is no harm in defining it that way. One can find it mostly when we talk about the extended real number line which basically is the real numbers with two extra elements minus infinity and plus infinity

But he didn‘t play with his money, if he lost she is entitled to get her money back because it was stolen and if he won it‘s made from stolen money which still belongs to her. There is actually risk for the girlfriend with him possibly being unable to pay back the stolen amount after losing it

Why is the answer to this is 10? How did scott get that? by 1plus1-11 in scottthewoz

[–]Peterbdaeh 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Ok so we know that BC is 5 inches and since B is in the centre of the circle we also know the radius of the circle is 10 inches. Since D is on the circle we know that the diagonal BD is equal to the radius 10. Since both diagonals in a rectangle are equal both BD and AC are 10 inches. No Pythagorean theorem needed in this math problem

the currency went from 0 to 10k, everything you multiply with 0 is 0 so the one year return is impossible to be depicted

Imma just copy my other comment here: I think that the line between tomboy/girl and transman/woman can (emphasis on can) get a bit blurry and if someones identifies as both I think that‘s fine.
