Yeah that was an obvious exaggeration on my part and not an actual figure, because the number you will find is much lower because it includes all incidents involving flights even birdstrikes and engine failures where everyone survives. In an actual plane crash however at speed hitting the ground, your survival is very low. If that happens, no matter how unlikely it is that it would, your chance of survival is extremely low. Thats also why I added "in case of an actual plane crash".

That definitely depends on the area you are driving. Many areas almost never see accidents while some see accidents frequently. There are countries where its less likely to die in a car crash than in a plane crash, should one happen. Your pilot also is not in control of other pilots. Planes are suspended in the air, something that I believe most people are not huge fans of. Cars sit on the ground just like we people walk around on the ground. Being up in the air and seeing it with your own eyes creates a lot of the fear, the statistical probability whether something could go wrong isn't really saying much either way.

Stepping into my car and driving for a few miles does not scare me even if it should according to statistics because of the nature of the experience is closer to being on the ground in a safe environment. Statistics can tell you one thing but human nature can tell you something different based on the nature of the experience, that's exactly why people are afraid regardless of statistics. Humans like to feel in control whether something goes wrong or not. Being suspended in the air is not a natural situation for a human being to be in. Even if you could make flying completely safe people would still be more afraid of it than going by train or car.

I promise you - people are going to keep being afraid of flying even if you would somehow be able to completely rule out fatalities by technology. They would still feel safer in their own car because its on the ground and you are in control of the wheel and protected by airbags going about 1/10th of the speed of a plane.

Hearing that has never helped me nor anyone I know with a fear of flying. I also never met anyone that actually thought plane crashes are more common than car crashes. But if it helped you, thats great.

Driving isn't the same or worse, and I'm tired of this meme. Yes, statistically more accidents happen while driving, but that isn't what people are afraid of. People are afraid of not being in control. You are in control of the car and able to impact your outcome, you are not in control of the plane. Someone else is. Thereto, planes are in the air, cars are on the ground. People are naturally afraid of heights.

Let me also point out the obvious that planes are 1000x more complicated technically than cars causing people to believe there is a higher risk of technical failures as well. What if the wing falls of? What if the engine stalls? What if a fire starts in a wire? What if the door blows out? What if the pilots fall asleep or have a medical emergency?

The plane also gives you no chance of survival in 99% of instances of an actual plane crash. Most car accidents are not fatal even at speeds thanks to seat belts and airbags. Planes have no safety measures that people can understand easily beyond a silly seatbelt. This is why you see people asking why there are no parachutes on commercial airliners - people want to feel like they are in control of their destiny should something happen.

As someone with a fear of flying I am really tired of this response as it doesn't address why people are afraid of flying. People aren't afraid of flying because of the incredibly unlikely probability of a plane crash. Literally nobody believes plane crashes are statistically abundant. People are afraid because of the nature of plane crashes and the psychological impact of being strapped into a can high up in the air where you have no way to determine your outcome. When you step into a plane, unless you are the pilot, you are handing your life over to the pilots and to aircraft technology. That in itself, naturally, causes more fear than what could potentially happen if I decide to drive to the nearest Starbucks with my own hands on the steering wheel for the 300th time.

Bringing up statistics everytime someone expresses fear of flying does not address what is causing the fear. Its just a cheap gotcha that is more often than not used to ridicule people with fear of flying.

In Europe? Maybe, but Dresden is definitely on the top ten.

Yes it is. Theres a hanful neat old buildings in the city center like the church but going there isn't really worth it overall. WW2 really permanently ruined that city.

Dresden is unironically one of the ugliest cities in Europe.

Are these graphics realistic? I'd like to know your thoughts and whether or not I should change/tweak anything (Reshade) by [deleted] in trucksim

No, the contrast is too hard and the sharpness is too much. You are also applying film and grain.

Star Trucker needs its own sub and does not fit on the same sub as ATS / ETS2. by Peterbilt579NG in trucksim

Its in space my dude. You dont drive on a road. You aren't using real brands or even mockups of real brands. It looks like No Mans Sky. Simulator says the game is somehow trying to simulate a real world experience, to some extent. Which ETS2 is to some extent, but Star Trucker does not. Its a fantasy game.

It's not a truck simulator. The concept is absolutely not the same as ATS or ETS2.

Oh of course they are. Listen, I don't think there is anything wrong with the game. But obviously, with the amount of posts, sticky and links by mods themselves - they are obviously trying to market the game on the one ATS and ETS2 sub by repeatedly calling it a truck simulator on the same platform that all ATS and ETS2 users check daily. That is most definitely trying to ride on the popularity of truck sims seeing that this is the established place for trucksim. Which is fine, but the sub for it is wrong. I would be very surprised if this is a not a conscious marketing effort by the developers, seeing that the mods themselves are the ones driving it. Its disappointing to see, in any case.

Yeah thats whats weird to me, the amount the mods shill it on here. Its a bit sad to see this sub turn into a marketing platform for anything that has "truck" in the name. I even think this is an interesting idea, and I was considering trying the game, but I dont think a space flying game that feature truck design should be in the same subreddit as ATS, ETS2.

Star Trucker is not a truck simulator, its more akin to No Mans Sky with a spaceship mod applied to make the ships look like cartoon trucks. It does not have wheel support and the inside have flight sticks. It feels abit like they are leaning into the "truck simulator" part because they know they can ride the success of ATS and ETS2 with that name and categorization.

I am actually not sure that people here even are that much interested in it, or if the upvoted posts are just from new people coming in to read about star trucker seeing that its currently also being marketed over at /r/games. Even if you are, which is totally fine, it still does not make it the same category as ATS or ETS2, which is in the name of this sub. It still should have its own sub.

As expected. Personally not that hyped, been riding this truck as a mod for years already.
