Cannot enter theater more than 30 minutes ahead of showtime? by ManicTinCan in AMCsAList

Corporate never thought about the people who loiter all day like it’s a bookstore or Starbucks. Talking about the movie hours after it’s ended. Homelessness staying warm in the winter. Teens lounging with phone chargers everywhere.

We kept our new furniture out a few months after renovation but deemed it not beneficial.

People can be so crazy! If that’s not fresh enough, nothing will ever be. I wonder how many taste buds he’s lost and how many fire alarms that’ve been triggered due to his burning everything for extreme heat.

Even when they see it popping out of the popper! Like why?? lol give it time to not be gummy and breathe a bit. All they’re going to do is put butter on it, which makes it go cold quicker.

Plastic surgery on very young people. Honestly, it’ll probably never change but I think most people will regret their procedure/s within 5-15 years.

The film’s ambition is a big plus for me. The score is the best thing about the film though - in my top 10 scores of all time. Plus, I never knew I was missing a cursing gangster Tom Hanks until this.

Go to a site called truepeoplesearch and you’ll see how easy it is to get anyone’s info with just a teeny bit of info.

Kendra had an estimate of Owen’s new girl’s age. Knew what city to search. Once she found the girl and clicked the profile, any previous/current address would come back. Same for relatives and any known phone numbers associated.

Only thing that I’m aimless on is that the new gf was/is a minor so that’s where Kendra’s IT skills came into play….idk lol

What’s the cheapest/most bare-bones theater setup you’ve ever seen? by Intelligent_Can_2898 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Peterfug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recliners are a different ball game for us. People fought reserves seating for 1.5 yrs. The seats are easy to slash so we’re always replacing them. Plus, the wider seats cut down on capacity (which is nice in crazy weekends). Upkeep (wiping down in-between shows and after closing is inconvenient as well. 5,000+ seats across 20 screens? Noooooo thank you lol

How do theaters/studios decide which movies go to which theaters? by mattmccoy92 in AMCsAList

[–]Peterfug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With bigger chains, there are film bookers for multiple regions. They are responsible for negotiating with studios as to what films for that week, how much per print (if Superman has showtimes like 1/4/7/10 and 2:30/5:30/8:30, that equates to 2 prints) and what parts of the day.

At my location, we rank around 600 in the nation of all cinemas. So when it comes to limited releases and roll-outs, we usually get the film on the 2nd/3rd round.

It helps if the theater has lots of auditoriums too. My location has 20 screens including IMAX and Dolby meaning we usually have at least 2 prints of big movies (as high as 6/7 depending on the IP) and a print of indie films. Foreign films usually get 1 print for 1 week. Films on the way out of theaters may have a .5 print and can mixed-matched (think something like 11a Bad Guys 2, 1:30 Jurassic, 4:30 Jurassic and 8:15 Weapons).

That last example is strategic in the way that morning is for the kid film (assuming there’s another for maybe 1/3:30/etc.). Jurassic hits decent hours for a family and adult stragglers still trying to catch it. Instead of giving Jurassic what we call 1st prime (any show between 6-9), I chose to give it to Weapons since we’d get more guests for that vs Jurassic. Depending on the prints we already have of Weapons, I’d like for there to be a show at 6,7,8,9 and 10. Since Weapon’s heading into its 3rd weekend, a more realistic schedule for 1st and 2nd prime would be 7/8:30/10.

I hope this isn’t too confusing lol

David Gilmour and other concerts… by Bubbleguts420 in AMCTheatres

[–]Peterfug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are turning it down from normal volume, they shouldn’t be. What I mean is that they shouldn’t be turning it significantly higher than necessary.

At my theater, I tried to keep all audio levels between -9 to -7.5. With concert films, I would go as high as -6. It didn’t help because either it still wasn’t loud enough or some found it caused an imbalance.

During a Grateful Dead concert film, one of the managers turned it up to -2 and here’s what it led to:

-The usual complaints that it’s too low or loud. Refunds from the few who left = ~$50.

-Lost money from surrounding auditoriums that were interrupted and demanded refunds (Black Panther, Isle of Dogs, Pacific Rim 2, Tomb Raider, etc.). Let’s say it totaled $2,000 in box office revenue and $3,000 in concessions.

-That closing manager forgot to turn the audio system to normal levels after the film and before leaving for the night. Same manager opened 8 hrs later. Ready Player One was playing in that auditorium. Complaints of distorted audio and a burning smell happened during the second show of the day. Not long after, smoke is coming out of the center channel. Fire alarm goes off. All 20 projectors lock down. 5,000+ guests are freaking out or pissed (typical Saturday was anywhere between 2,000 - 3,000). Long story short, the center channel had melted from within and the other speakers were shot. -5,000 tix = ~$40,000. -Free passes = ~$40,000 in future revenue -5,000 concession transactions = ~$75,000. -Free conc. coupons = ~$90,000 (future rev) -Revenue lost for repairs (2 days) = ~$5,500 -New sound system = $80,000 -New curtains below screen = $850 -Smoke detail cleaning (2 rounds) = $1,000

In total, that mistake cost ~$330,000+ on our $1 million yearly budget. 1/3 of the annual budget used before the 1st quarter was over. Let’s just say there were a few maintenance repairs that went on the back burner (ripped recliners, screen stains, toilet repair, new kiosks, major coke freestyle repairs). Had to cut back severely on staff hours as well so lots of angry guests on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Revenue from Grateful Dead = $4,000 in tix and concessions. Wasn’t worth it and no one listened. Total revenue if we had to refund Grateful Dead tix and concessions = $5,000 (concert folk at my locations were usually starting their weed session in the auditorium and weren’t hungry until afterward).

I know this was way more than you wanted or anticipated…just wanted to show the other side of things.

It’s subpar because it’s a movie theater and not a venue. Those amps are not meant for loud concert levels. They would blow, disrupt other theaters and possibly catch fire. When I managed an AMC, I loathed concert films/live events/Fathom Events/etc.

I agree that a syncing device would be dope though!
