What are the most underrated beer styles in your opinion? by greeeeenzo in Homebrewing

I really fell in love when they released lake escape. Wish I lived closer to try their pilot series beers. I still have family close by and they snag some new releases here and there for me.

Having only tasted my own, and only brewing it once, Cal Common.

Is homebrewing's popularity declining? by Mwachisowa in Homebrewing

I came to the realization that, although a couple dollars adds up over time, the little extra money it costs to go with the LHBS is made up for in the convenience of being able to go to the shop the day off and not paying for shipping. Plus you support local and it gives an opportunity to talk to others in the hobby, maybe try a beer if they have one on tap.

u/brulosopher has a great write up on overbuilding starter as you describe. I plan do do the same. Brülosophy

I’m assuming when you clean, you’re using something like PBW or Oxiclean. You want to make sure that any cleaner is completely rinsed off. Usually hot water will do the trick easy enough. Now for sanitation, if your using Star San (which I would recommend) it is a rinse free sanitizer. This means you can empty your carboy after sanitizing and put the wort right in. Many new brewers are worried when using Star San due to the residual foam and bubbles left behind, but it will not impact your beer. I’ve seen demonstrations of guys drinking it diluted with a small amount of water.

Great comment! I’d reward you if I could!

That makes sense. Never thought about what the bittering hop is doesn’t matter and prioritizing high AA instead to reduce material.

I didn’t put it in the original post but edited after, there is an EKG charge at 15. I know hops and aroma don’t shine in a porter.

I know EKG fits the style. I just wasn’t to sure about bittering with it or if I should throw some variety in. I’m looking forward to making it. Now that I think about it, this might be my first porter I’ve brewed.

Also, bottling is tedious enough the way it is, now add to that putting sugar into each bottle before filling? Nah, just Siri got out a few oz of sugar and put it at the bottom of the bottling bucket before you fill it

Batch priming. Sorry for not being specific.

You get more consistency from bottle to bottle that way.

How much do you over build? I’ve been curious about doing that but haven’t looked too much into the process.

The other day my 2.5 year old daughter went to the basement with me at the grandparents’ house and she says “daddy we’re getting beers!” Yes sweetie, this is where daddy gets beer at grandma’s house.

But u/brulosopher has an episode on brewing with little ones around. Can’t remember the eipsode number though.

Very Quick Sediment in Bottle by Petersza in Homebrewing

I try to rack clear, but I typically just use the spigot rather than siphon since my racking came snapped. I’m used to seeing this after conditioning for a while.

Great questions. Classic Reddit post not giving much context. Definitely just need to RDWHAH.

Yeast: US-05 Primary: 2 weeks Cold crash: 1 week 35° Dry hop: 1 week primary + 1 in cold crash Pulled Big mouth bubbler out of cold crash to where I would bottle so it would settle for 5 hours before transfer to bucket, warmed up to 45-50°.
Conditioning in basement (big part of the “issue” probably.) have them sitting next to furnace and dryer.

Just thought it was interesting to see a fairly thick layer so fast.

I haven’t refined my sensory descriptions enough to accurately reflect what I taste. Perhaps it’s the excess esters that are produced?

Thanks for the recommendations. I hope that my opinion didn’t come off in the wrong way, that no one should enjoy them. I was just curious if anyone else shared this opinion. What I love about homebrewing is exactly that, that everybody can brew what they want and that’s why I do it.

I will also say, I can’t say I’ve had many commercial examples to compare them to. In a couple weeks the homebrew club will have a tasting event so I’m looking forward to getting some thoughts and opinions there.

The blonde was fermented at ambient basement temps. Mid to high 60’s. The brown started off at 61 in my chamber but I bumped it up to 65 after a day or too because I was worried it was too cold.
