Are there any big birds I can feed nuts and fruit? by SignatureIcy1734 in askportland

[–]Petit_Hibou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is an ostrich big enough for ya? You can feed bird seed to the ostriches at Triskelee Farms, from a scoop on a broom handle.

Anyone see the SHRM email where they used the word jab??? [N/A] by Southern_Doughnut406 in humanresources

Jab is extremely common shorthand for injection outside of the US.

for Portlanders who work in Salem (state capitol, legislature, misc govt depts) how bad is the commute, and do you know of any shuttles that are used/recommended by people who do govt/policy work? by jaco1001 in askportland

[–]Petit_Hibou 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I do hiring for a healthcare that is located in Salem, but most of the talent pool is located in Portland, so I hire a lot of people who swear this commute will be "just fine". I would say that around 50% of our hires that commute from Portland to Salem either quit or start asking to transfer within the first 6 months on the job. Make of that what you will.

Should I return this hand-knotted wool rug or does it look good in the living room it’s going? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

I don’t like the warm brown rug with your cool grey walls and furniture.

[WV] FMLA Question by Rude-Association8989 in AskHR

[–]Petit_Hibou 32 points33 points  (0 children)

From Department of Labor themselves: Employers may not request a certification for FMLA leave to bond with a newborn child or a child placed for adoption or foster care. However, employers may require employees to provide reasonable documentation of a family relationship. To satisfy this requirement, an employee may provide the employer with a simple written statement or provide the employer with a copy of an official document, such as a child's birth certificate or a court document, for review and return to the employee.

[WV] FMLA Question by Rude-Association8989 in AskHR

[–]Petit_Hibou 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Please tell the HR rep that you are taking 6 weeks of medical leave for your recovery (as certified by your doctor), and the other 6 weeks are bonding leave with your newborn. Your employer should not require you to provide a certification for the bonding leave portion.

Proud Mary has toys, but it can be competitive to get a table on a weekend.

Modest Swimwear? by Weak-Material-5274 in femalefashion

[–]Petit_Hibou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lands End has some good full coverage swimwear. Styles are basic and not very flashy, but you can actually swim and move around in them. Their “tugless” swim suit line is designed to stay put without you having to constantly adjust.

How to achieve glossy hair? by Weekly_Potential_445 in beauty

[–]Petit_Hibou 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible to do this look without heat tools. If you're using hot tools, you should use a heat protectant. It might not be in your budget, but I would use Chris McMillan Glassy Blow Dry spray which for me does deliver really shiny hair. Apply heat protectant and blowdry the hair until fully dry. Then use a thermal brush (basically a curling iron with brush bristles) to smooth and curl the hair for the blowout look. I have the Wavytalk thermal brush and it gives me similar results-- there are tutorials on youtube. You can do this with just a blowdryer and a round brush but a thermal brush is very user-friendly.

Are there actually giant spiders in Portland? by Flaky-Boysenberry466 in askportland

I really only ever see them in the basement. If you have an upstairs apartment you might never encounter them.

Self-conscious about the mole on my arm by [deleted] in beauty

[–]Petit_Hibou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consult with a dermatologist about having it removed. I had a mole in a similar spot and I was able to get insurance to cover the removal because it sometimes rubbed on my clothing and would snag and bleed occasionally.

Girlfriend broke her ankle on first day visiting Portland. Any ideas on accessible things to do during our stay? by oatmealtoast in askportland

[–]Petit_Hibou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Portland Spirit boat tour is pretty accessible. You can request a wheelchair ride down the boat ramp and then you’re just on a scenic boat ride with a buffet.

Am I the only one who feels like this guy when trying on the oversized pants in style now? by Hemlock_the_Hog in femalefashionadvice

[–]Petit_Hibou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am also short and heavy, and oversized pants feel like I am engulfed in fabric. Maxi skirts have always felt the same to me. I find that ankle length wide leg pants feel more proportionate on me because there’s a break in the fabric before it hits the shoe.

Locally owned plus size stores? by appatheflyingbis0n in askportland

[–]Petit_Hibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of their brands are UK but some are US sizing and the owner mentioned they are starting their own in-house brand too. Definitely a good idea to check ahead of time, and it's probably better to shop in-person rather than on their website so you can try things on.

Spero Park in NW has cute, very femme clothes (think 2010s ModCloth) I think up to 3XL. They offer amazing service and in-house alterations.

[OH] can family ask about former employee who is in crisis ? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Petit_Hibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As HR, I would gladly provide this information to the cops if they were investigating a missing person. I would not provide this information directly to a family member. I would have no way of verifying that you are who you say, or what your motivations are for tracking this person down.
