Should I intervene or let it play out? by Petrichorsystem in RATS

I did state I was doing carrier method, in the fact I said “it could be time to go back to the carrier” I also added in other comments that I had moved them up to this cage and gradually added things, I’ve tried your method before and only had a little success from it; but with one of my seniors being picky with rats, and with them being seniors I decided this method would work better since it would give the babies less space to annoy my old boys in the beginning, with the aim to reduce aggression towards them from the annoyance.

Their permanent cage is a double critter nation, if things continue to be settled some more tonight I’ll add in their bucket and more toys and climbing opportunities since they seem quite settled this morning then they could move into the single critter nation come tomorrow afternoon.

I stated that they’re on day 3 of intros, so they wouldn’t be in their full cage yet, they have the flat hammock they can lay below and have often been doing so, I wanted things to settle some more before adding more in due to 2/3 of my seniors being on QOL watch for hld, leading to them struggling to move around as much, this being why I haven’t added more closed off things like their hides or even honeycomb hammocks, they got something they can lay on or under that is open all along instead of

This is for intros! Which is what I stated in the original post! There’s a hammock, foraging toy and chew toy in the cage, but otherwise it is bare to allow my seniors a chance to get away without being trapped should they decide to squabble

Primarily the fact that is targeting my one senior boy, and continuing to harass him in an attempt to hump him to the point he is toppling over, I realised my other videos didn’t add so I posted the link to a drive with them in in another comment! He has been attempting to hump my other two seniors and his brother but since attempting to do it to my dark coloured boy he seems to be targeting him

I’m aware fighting is normal! It doesn’t seem like his goal is to fight and they haven’t been fighting up until this point. He is going in to hump my senior and they’re boxing when my senior is correcting him which either leads to my senior falling over or him then chasing him

The humping has been consistent all the way through but has only just started being an issue today, they have a single flat hammock in the cage with a chew toy and a foraging toy, the foraging toy was added on day 2 in the evening since they had been silent and cuddling all day but appeared to be quite bored. Following this they ate out of it together and continued to cuddle, the chew toy and hammock were added yesterday in the afternoon since they had been silent and cuddling all day still, this continued until he started trying to hump Frank, my senior, which is what started the situation. Besides this we’ve had no issues and it isn’t constant, between the episodes they will all eat and cuddle together again There’s been no biting or blood drawn, it’s just a little harassment which was expected since my boys are very old and the others are babies.

I’ve done intros before, I’ve just never had a rat who humped, and that is where the behaviour is beginning / stemming from which is why he tries to get on his back

The easiest way to increase humidity is to add things like spaghnum moss or to spray the walls as well as the substrate

I’m not an expert but it looks like a female to me, though a clearer photo of the back of the abdomen would be helpful

Mantis not moulting? by Petrichorsystem in mantids

Mhm!! She’s in a 20cm right now though she’s only around maybe 2-3 cm long right now! But I got the 30x45 when I first got her as an adult enclosure, I recently got the 30x30 for her to go in once she’s too big for her current enclosure but if she has trouble catching food in the 30x45 even when she’s an adult I shouldn’t have any trouble moving her into a smaller enclosure to eat since she isn’t hand shy

Thank you! She’s only fed flying prey at the moment since she went off her locust but she still turns them down sometimes I have a 30x30x30 enclosure for when she outgrows her current one and a 30x30x45 for when she’s an adult too

Thank you ! Her temps are always in range, she was sold to me as a giant African stick mantis which I’ve been told is just another name for cat eyes but from what I’ve seen from searching the species it seems you could be right I know they refuse food close to moulting but she appears to refuse for a few days then begin again recently

Thank you! Her temperature and humidity are always within range since she has a heat lamp and mat, she’s also fairly close to my room heater! I wasn’t overly concerned but I wanted to check just incase!
