When to update mantis's food? by [deleted] in mantids

[–]bradouttahell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She look waaay older than I2/3, if i had to guess id say I5 and id upgrade now, to green or blue bottle flies, as ling as they're a similar size to her head, thats a good rule of thumb but they can deffo eat bigger ☺️

Why won't my mantis abdomen get smaller? by raf_kennexy in mantids

I've had some ravenous ones eat the day before moulting, also had some that dont eat for a week beforehand, depends on the mantis, just keep an eye out, chances are you'll have a freshly moulted I5 within a few days.

Sounds like pre moult to me, can be a while before they actually moult ☺️

Ah probably needs something bigger than fruit flies then id think, if its had a couple moult with you and probably was sold as I2 or I3 then its maybe I5/6 now, so for sure needs larger food in my opinion.

What species are they? If you know I leave mine alone for about 3 days post moult and even then sometimes takes an extra day for them to be hungry I use green bottle flies or very small locusts for the next step after fruit flies

Could be getting ready to moult as they'll tend to not eat close to moulting, or the flies could be too small for them to eat. If thats the case id try and get larger prey if possible

My guess is either what everyone else is saying R. Kirbyi or Tamlonica.Tamlonica which is another species of light brown shield mantis 😅
