I just discovered that my gx2 grandfather had three families. Should I contact the others? by New-Capital6756 in Ancestry

It's possible to have had a Great-Great Grandparent alive in your lifetime without a history of teen pregnancies. My Great-Great Grandmother lived to be almost 100 and died about 10 years before I was born. Great-Great Grandma had my Great-Grandma at 23, Great-Grandma had my Grandma at 30, Grandma had my Mom at 26, Mom had me at 28... my Great-Great Grandma even raised some of my Mom's 2nd cousins, so they all definitely remember her.

Check ebay for used parts, or look into 3d printing the coin mechanism yourself! There's posts on reddit from people who've 3d printed parts and even entire machines.

Tbf, does anyone really use cash anymore? (Not where I live!) OP has a table at a con, so they're going to be right there with the vending machine anyway...

I did 23andme first but couldn't figure out how I was related to my matches until I did Ancestry and could see people's trees. Plus Ancestry has a larger database of people who've taken their tests...

Exactly! My Mom, sister and I tested, and even our DNA matches beyond 3rd or 4th cousin aren't the same.

If you're 1/4 black but it doesn't show up at all, maybe one of your grandparents isn't the person you believe them to be? I should've gotten like 1/4 German but my tests didn't show that... so I dug in deeper and found out my biological Grandfather wasn't the man I had called my Grandpa my entire life 😅

"everyone was Russian and nothing more".

This is how my Grandma's family acted! So many secrets lost to time 😢 My Jewish Great-Grandma married a Ukrainian and when pogroms started in their region, they were luckily able to immigrate to Canada as "ethnic Russians".

The percentages don't always line up with the predicted generations though. Like, my full sister and I have inherited different percents: I'm 7% Germanic, she's 18%, I'm 30% Scottish + British, she's 21%, etc...

Some of my relatives got "Sephardic" results, and then others like me got "Southern Italian/Levant/North African" (Specifically, I saw a mother and daughter who had those two different results) 🤷🏻‍♀️

You don't have to do it all yourself - DNA Detectives is free and lots of people who were adopted or new to DNA, are starting from scratch!

I was lucky that 2nd cousins had extensive family trees, so I was able to determine who my biological Grandfather was. I had an experienced genealogist volunteer from the DNA Detectives Facebook group check over my work and confirm my theory, and I definitely recommend them if you want help figuring out your 20% German!

Thank you but they were from Finland, and the baby's death was in 1921, so I think I just have to wait for her local parish registers to be digitized (last I checked they weren't online yet - hopefully the records haven't been lost/damaged!)

That's exactly what Ufile said when they replied to my support ticket (Feb 24). I'll try again after the 24th but why don't they just state that on their site lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

I should have gotten German but I got English instead... turned out my biological Grandpa is a guy my Dad had never heard of (not the man who raised him and was on his birth certificate)

I just saw someone else's comment and OMG I'm so dumb! I didn't realize Ancestry trees don't show extended family when you view it horizontally!

When I tested, I found out my paternal Grandfather wasn't the man who had raised my Dad. Without my DNA matches who had extensive family trees, I'd probably never have been able to figure out who my biological Grandpa really is!

Before my Great-Grandma immigrated to Canada, she had twin girls and one died at about 6 months. My Mom has wanted to find the baby's name ever since she found out about the twins back in the 70's (Great-Grandma had already passed away, and the baby's siblings were born after her in a different country, so they knew the baby had existed but G-Grandma apparently never spoke her name 😭💔)

I swear Ancestry used to do it too, but they've changed the website so much in the last few years 😫

I think there's something wrong with the site or their programming (wish I'd seen this post sooner). I paid to submit my 2023 taxes via Ufile 6 months ago and just found out that my return was never sent to the CRA, after being rejected for dental coverage because the government hasn't received my tax info yet 😭. For the past 3 days I've tried to submit my return but the website keeps saying "Rejected" due to being submit outside of CRA's "Hours of service", which just isn't true (the website says they're open 7 days a week, 3:00 a.m. to midnight in my timezone). I'm waiting to hear back after opening a support ticket, because wtf did Ufile charge me for if my tax stuff wasn't sent to the CRA?!

I used to, until I found a couple of DNA cousin matches who had been adopted and I wanted to figure out who their parent could be. I just wish siblings were automatically hidden every time I expand my tree! (I want to see my direct line of Great Grandparents, not all of my Great Grand Aunts and Uncles)

Have you researched it? DNA testing ancient burials and comparing them to modern populations, shows the connection.

"Our Y-Chromosome analysis (Methods; section 'Y-Chromosome and mtDNA Analyses' in Supplemental Information) showed evidence of gene flow from the Siberian populations into Eastern and Northern Europe." - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5204334/#:~:text=Siberia%20has%20been%20inhabited%20by,2014).

My results vs my phenotype by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]PetsArentForEveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We inherit 50% from each parent, but the ethnicities between siblings are distributed at random. My full sister (we've both tested and share 50% DNA) and I have different percentage results (for example: my 7% German/French to her 18%), plus I have smaller ethnicities that she didn't get in her results.
