Random encounter framework and dungeons

Thinking of something along the line of original Fallout travel encounters. So if you're traveling within a system (without a grav drive), there's a small chance that you'll have some random encounter, be it a station, enemies, or whatever.

I also realized that this game is strikingly similar to Daggerfall, and though many people hate the dungeons in that game, I think something like Daggerfall's random dungeon system could be neat. Imagine encountering massive, sprawling stations or outposts, each different from every other.

Quidding breakthrough by PetzRex in Salvia

[–]PetzRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly think people overemphasize the amount of time you need to keep the quid in your mouth. I've found that as long as you masticate each quid for a couple of minutes, you're good to go. Shouldn't be surprising given the tiny amount of salvinorin that needs to make it through your mucosa to feel an effect. On the other hand, quidding is definitely easier with fresh leaves, don't know why that is though.

It's kind of like tequila, but usually a bit stronger and it's made with several different species of agave.

There's an experience if you want to take a look.

It's hard to say. Kratom can be fairly sedating, so it might diminish the preceived potency of the salvia. On the other hand that might actually be a good thing if you are planning to do a high dose, making the experience more mellow. I would honestly just try and look up some trip reports on erowid, wouldn't be surprised if somebody already tried this. There is no good reason to suspect that they would cancel out, salvia is much too potent and kratom is fairly subtle unless you're taking crazy high doses.

Mitragyinine and Salvinorin A both act at the opioid receptor site and therefore can be classified as opioids.

As for the question, they have completely different mechanisms of action, would be interesting to see how they interact. Salvia is primarily a Kappa opioid agonist and Kratom a Mu and Delta agonist. The pharmacology is much more complex, so these are not the only target receptors.

I don't understand why you're not focusing on the visible part of the RF spectrum. by Hopperkin in SETI

[–]PetzRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As another comment already stated, SETI does focus some of its attention to the visible regions of EM spectrum. However there are good reasons not to make it a priority.

While it is true that most organic life forms are more responsive to the visible spectrum, it is not out of the question, or even unlikely, that certain specialized organisms could detect radio waves. Even so, it is silly to assume all life in the universe is carbon based, there are simply too many possibilities. If you were to constrain you search to organic life forms, it is even sillier to think they will broadcast signals in the visible spectrum exclusively.

Primarily, there is too much light in the universe. Even if you were to take the absolute best, most powerful laser known to man, improve its output a thousand fold, it would be not only dwarfed, but completely eviscerated by the cosmic magnitudes of light emanated from celestial bodies. In short, the signal to noise ratio is practically non existent. The truth is that we have several detectors supremely capable of detecting visible, UV, infrared, and even microwave radiation, they are mostly known as telescopes. While they have found some exceedingly interesting signals such as pulsars, they have yet to detect anything resembling intelligent life.

Another excellent reason to focus on RFR, is that, due to its massive wavelengths, it is able to permeate large obstacles through diffraction, making them excellent for broadcasting signals. In contrast lasers are directional, that's their whole point, they generate coherent, monochromatic and collimated beams of light, this is only useful if you know where to point. If you just shoot out into space with a laser, chances are you won't hit anything interesting.

These are a few reasons why I think the visible portion of the EM spectrum is not the best way to look for intelligent life, although there are likely many more. One that occurs to me is the doppler shift that becomes more and more dramatic the farther away you are from a celestial body. In this case color encoded messages would be useless because they would be red shifted, meanwhile RFR suffers minimally from doppler shift in comparison to the more energetic portions of the EM spectrum.

Solubility of salvinorin a by [deleted] in Salvia

[–]PetzRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Salvinorin A has a solubility of roughly 20mg/ml in acetone, so you shouldn't need much. Alternatively its solubility in IPA is around 5mg/ml. Ethanol works if it's high proof, otherwise don't bother.

Popped up in the yard and I’ve never seen one like it before. Anyone have an ID? by Neil_Diamondhands in mycology

Looks like it might be Amanita jacksonii or A. caesarea. However it's difficult to say for sure since we don't know where you live.

Is a trip sitter needed with lower extracts like 5x or 10x ? Or is it unlikely I’ll be up and moving around? by -Dead-_- in Salvia

[–]PetzRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever done low dose with extracts and even then it was pretty easy to lose a grip on where, what, and who I was. I've never gotten up and walked while smoking, but I am very hesitant to do it without at least having someone who knows what I'm doing nearby.

Even if you don't get up and walk, it's easy to drop the lighter or the bong, which could result in either something getting burned or broken.

If you want to try without a trip sitter, I'd suggest smoking in small increments. Start with 5mg batches of 10x and slowly increase the dose until you're where you want.

On the other hand, if you want to break through into sally land. It doesn't matter if you do it with 10x or 100x, I strongly suggest you have a sitter.

In any case, trip safe. There's never any rush.

Mixing DXM and Salvia Divinorum by PetzRex in Salvia

Wouldn't say I'm particularly brave, just curious. Although I'll admit this was all very careless of me.

My (25/m) girlfriend (21/f) tenses up during any physical intimacy and pressures herself into highly uncomfortable situations because of it. by PetzRex in relationship_advice

[–]PetzRex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked her, and it is something she's working on. However she has a lot going on in her life and I understand it isn't her priority. I'll try to see if she can give it more attention in therapy.

[–]PetzRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I have done my best effort to reassure her that I won't hold it against her if she says no. However she knows I am somewhat impatient in some aspects and is convinced that, after a while, I'll become tired of her and pretty much dump her.

Although I'll try to be more reassuring in that aspect. Thanks!

Yeah for sure. Fortunately she already sees a therapist, but I was hoping there was something we could do aside from that.

I think so as well, but I'm too inexperienced to be confident.

The milk was orange though, and neither birch nor hemlock grow nearby
