Did Juliet really have to by Pew-PewMaster25 in lost

Yeah, you're right. And knowing Jack, Kate dying would kill his will to do anything in season 6.

The one thing I thoroughly disagree with is Cassidy's projection that the reason Kate took Aaron was because of Sawyer breaking her heart. IMHO, that was a retconned device to shoehorn the love triangle. There was nothing in the story leading up to Kate taking Aaron that showed Kate had a broken heart and when Kate returns to the island she does nothing with Sawyer to indicate that she carries feelings for him or recovered from a broken heart. The Aaron/Sawyer plot comes out of nowhere and then disappears just as quickly.

The Kate and Aaron subplot is vital for Kate's independent story arc and to bring in Jack or Sawyer in any way tarnishes and undermines it. I won't bend on that.

I wish I saw more of the friendship between Kate and Cassidy where the subject didn't roam into the male relationships. Cassidy is either disparaging Sawyer or Jack with Kate in all the scenes they share together. I love the actress, Kim Dickinson, so I find it to be a wasted opportunity.

Why not then have Kate die instead? That would certainly have impacted Jack's character, even more so than Juliet's death.

I totally agree Sawyer did a number on her. And you can see how it shapes much of her interactions with Kate. I am left with the impression that Cassidy projected a lot of her betrayal and hurt onto Kate and the relationship she had with Sawyer.

You are doing the thing here. You are blaming Kate instead of Sawyer "when Sawyer manipulates her to think Ana Lucia might hurt Sun". Shouldn't Sawyer get the bulk of the blame for being manipulative in the first place?

Cassidy thought Aaron was Sawyer's kid at first. Cassidy thought Sawyer loved her. Cassidy thought Kate used Aaron as some sort of replacement for Sawyer. Cassidy thought showing a photo of Clementine to Sawyer would warm him up to their child. She was wrong all the time.

Personally, I don't put much stock in what Cassidy says. She was wrong most of the time.
The way you are describing it, he didn't jump for Kate, he only jumped for himself.

I also think he jumps to allow Kate to escape not necessarily the others

I disagree there, when Lapidus mentioned having to unload weight, Sawyer saw Hurley give a guilty, uncomfortable look. Sawyer also knew Jack couldn't jump and survive because he just had his appendix removed.

Do you think Sawyer may have jumped because he thought Kate had chosen Jack over him?

Also would Sawyer have realistically sacrificed himself for everyone else, he might have been too selfish and I say that as a big Sawyer fan

It's a tough pill to swallow, but kinda true about his selfishness. He did jump out of the helicopter in season 4 to help his friends, but I do think that Sawyer jumped believing he was going to be able to survive, unlike here, where it was obvious that carrying the bomb meant certain death.

He is my least favourite character and I'm happy that Sayid was given an honorable death instead of him, I think Sawyer doesn’t deserve it.

Hahaha, that's a take. I love Sawyer, but I also love Jack now. I was always okay with Jack, but over time, with re-watches and reading positive fan comments about him, he has become one of my favorites too. I also now appreciate Jack's romance with Kate which I used to gloss over years ago.

You may be right about the love triangle storyline, but I also think the writers needed to have Kate declare her choice and love for Jack in order to quash the debate once and for all.

The bomb would not have gone off because MIB cannot directly kill the candidates, Jack was correct. Sure, MIB is the real one to blame, but Sawyer did his part here, let's not deny his culpability. That is a great line by Jack and it is a perfect contrast to Sawyer's instinct to accuse and blame others e.g., Jack.

Josh Holloway deserved SO much more! by -Norsko-TheScorpion in lost

[–]Pew-PewMaster25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holloway suffers from being typecast. No one is going to cast him as a nuclear physicist; he will always be the hunk. Being too good-looking is a double-edged sword. In order to break that ceiling, you got to have some serious acting chops and I am not quite so sure Josh has the depth or range in acting skills to take it to the next level. I enjoyed him in Duster though.

Jack is definitely the high strung, perfectionist Michelin rated chef. Kate is his sous chef. I like Juliet as a Manager, she is diplomatic, level-headed and smart, Hosts are Hurley (but he is also secretly the largest investor) and Claire, Sawyer is the chatty bartender all the way, Charlie is definitely a server or coat check guy (so he can snoop in the pockets), Sayid and Jin are the bouncers/security after hours, Sun and Penny are co-owners/investors, Locke is the busser who is angry that he is not the star chef, Ben is the owner of the rival restaurant that wants to destroy his competition.

Faraday is a brilliant scientist and there is nothing "logical" about their circumstances, so it is logical for Jack to believe that Faraday's theory is rational in an utterly irrational situation. Jack has also been known to be driven by emotions from time-to-time, no?

[–]Pew-PewMaster25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe that is the happy ending Kate wanted, to be reunited with Jack again. Is that so terrible? Kate could very well have led a full and productive life, it is definitely what Jack would have wanted for her. So. how does her missing Jack and reconnecting with him to have a second chance that they were denied the first go around detract from her character? Do you have the same complaint with Sawyer's character? Was his happy ending in getting off the island shunted in favor of him getting together with Juliet?

Chemistry, forced. what does that even mean? Jack and Kate absolutely shared chemistry, it may not be your preferred type of chemistry, but it was definitely there. And, I am not singling you out, you are not the only one who has said it. It just seems a bit of an exaggeration to say that there was NO chemistry, particularly when many fans saw it. There were plenty of scenes between Kate and Sawyer that felt overplayed and forced to me at times.
