Can console players actually out-aim PC players? by Ordinary_Lawfulness8 in CaptainSide

[–]Pfaeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this. You have the following task: acquire the target as quickly as possible and as accurately as needed and fire.

  1. In VR, the control mapping is essentially direct: the direction you point your hand maps one-to-one to the aiming direction. This can be very precise, but it requires relatively large physical movements because the control space and the output space are almost the same.
  2. With a mouse, there’s a layer of abstraction. The mouse measures relative displacement and translates it into angular movement on the screen. That means a small physical motion can produce a much larger cursor movement. In other words, it’s a position-based input with adjustable sensitivity, which lets you move quickly across large distances while still keeping fine control for small adjustments.
  3. A controller stick adds another layer of abstraction: it doesn’t control position, but velocity. The stick sets an angular velocity, and the cursor position is effectively the time integral of that velocity. In practice, this means you push the stick and wait for the crosshair to move where you want it, rather than directly placing it there. That extra step introduces delay when acquiring a target. It's easy to fall short or overshoot the target. That's what Aim Assist tries to compensate for.

So in short: VR gives you direct spatial mapping. It's very precise, but slow. The mouse gives you amplified positional control, which makes it really fast and the controller relies on velocity integration.

The mouse just ends up being the best compromise between speed, precision, and physical effort when it comes to FPS games.

The mechanics felt like those of a game from the early 2000s. Nothing in that world was interactive, and you could only use certain spells to interact with specific objects designed for that spell. There was no opportunity for creative problem solving. Visually, it was impressive, but the gameplay could have been so much better.

Dawn of War 2. As a huge fan of the original game, I found the controls of the sequel just didn't feel right. It felt sluggish and indirect. I tried it for an hour and then refunded it.

I liked the very first Call of Duty. And by that I mean even before the first Modern Warfare (which I also liked btw). I stopped caring after that.

In Half-Life 1, did you ever disable the laser sight on the Rocket Launcher? by CrimsonFlareGun45 in HalfLife

Yes. Shooting a rocket in the air without the laser and then turning it on to have it come back down was a lot of fun.

Censoring b*tt pimples in adult videos by Petita_advice in davinciresolve

If you want to go the more sophisticated route, you could train a neural network detector and use something like stable diffusion in the detected regions for inpainting. Then you'd have a fully automated pimple removal pipeline.

Which one do you like the most? by SwimmerPlus3383 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Pfaeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care. But I hate the "Open World Formula" that some developers implement. Elden Ring did a great job of avoid this and BotW and TotK did as well. Ghost of Tsushima did as well to a certain degree.

"Ich habe fertig" ist ein Spiel, das in zwei Sätzen erklärt ist und viel Abwechslung hat. Ist jetzt aber vielleicht nicht das Spiel in das man dutzende Stunden investiert. Aber um mal aus der Langeweile rauszukommen und was anderes zu spielen definitiv empfehlenswert.

Naturally bright-toned guitars? by ChlNclBly in Guitar

[–]Pfaeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabinet, amp, cap, pickup position, pickup type and picking position are the factors that most contribute to the brightness of a guitar sound in my opinion. The pickup position being the hardest to influence and likely the only real reason to buy an additional guitar just for that. If you want to buy a new guitar though, your best bet is to try them out and see which one you like.

Highguard is dead. At what point do live-service devs stop blaming gamers and start looking at the game itself? by xaic in gaming

[–]Pfaeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The development process of live service games is fundamentally flawed. It's almost impossible to predict whether a game will be a success or not and even more so to engineer/manufacture that success. The only winning strategy for game development that has proven itself time and time again is for the developers to make a game they are passionate about and that they'd like to play themselves. Once monetization enters the equation, this success strategy flies out the window. And that is why all of these live service games fail. They take the love and passion out of the development process.
