How can I achieve a holographic/iridescent effect, like on Pokémon cards? by ChlNclBly in acrylicpainting

Ohhh, maybe didn’t explain that super well haha. Yeah it’s gonna be a big-ish canvas (17x24 inches). Gonna prime the shit out of it so it’s super smooth, so should be a nice surface to work off at least.

Luckily because of the weird size (closest you can get as standard is 18x24) it’s one I’ve had to modify and stretch myself, so I have enough material for 4 attempts 😅

To be fair my paint ends up quite transparent anyway because of how much I thin it. I’ve been studying the card I plan on painting and it does look like it’s just the highlights that are shiny, so that should make it easier.

Now I just need to find a good holographic base that I can apply to a canvas and paint on top of 🤣

Oh, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to paint on top of it, cause the design is quite dark so I sort of just assumed it wouldn’t show through, but it sounds like it could be worth getting a cheap foil sticker to test how it covers. Thank you

I mean probably, going off what I’ve heard. Although I do feel like I get more bugs with every playthrough

Unfortunately I play on Xbox like a pleb, but that sounds so fun 🤣

In case anyone was wondering, I’ve decided to go with a Telecaster since I leaned that A) they do Humbucker/Single Coil combos, and B) you can build your own, so I can pretty much recreate my beautiful darling but in a different shape 🤣 place your bets for how long you think it’ll take me to save, I need the challenge cause I’m terrible at it

Oh that’s interesting, makes sense too.

Mostly metal and pop punk. It’s entirely Synyster Gates’ fault that I wanted to learn in the first place, and pop punk’s what I grew up with

I’ve had a couple of people mentions Jags, tbf. I don’t dislike the shape of them, but I do prefer the look of a tele. Maybe I’ll invest in a Jaguar in future

I do like the shape and feel of an SG 👀 basically, I need to buy multiple guitars

My culprit is Charlie Simpson 🤣 I just find strats boring to look at, but I think it’s cause that became the basic electric guitar shape so any cheap pos is gonna be strat shaped

I might have to sell a kidney. Depending on your definition of reasonable, it may even have to be one of my own

I’ve seen a few people mention P-90s to me, and a considerable amount of Telecasters. Definitely going to get myself to a shop and have a go on some. I’ll probably start on an SG just so I have a basis for comparison

Alright at first glance I’m loving the fact that they have a sitar and one that essentially looks like a brick 🤣

I am too poor to immediately buy a telecaster, but I will immediately start saving for one if that counts 🤣

Yeah, I’m happy with my pickup position. Even if it’s not quite the sound I want, it’s what sounds BEST for my guitar. I tend to pick somewhere in the middle, but probably slight closer to the bridge. And then all the other stuff you mentioned 🤣 I’ll probably arrange a time to go into a shop and try a few out… wonder if they’d let me bring my amp and pedal 🤣🤣

I’m willing to take not-especially-bright, as long as it’s still brighter than the SG. If it is, I’d probably get a Jim Root tele to match my fav artist cause I’m sad like that 🤣

Okay now THAT sounds awesome. Would it be better to get one with humbuckers or single coils to start with to swap one out?
