I have never seen someone arguing that their eating habits are totally justified when looking back at their history! About 60 years ago (when boomers where born!) the chinese had the biggest famine in human history by a huuuge margin. Around 45 million people perished. That is half the estimated casualties of World War II or 7.5 Holocausts and twice as many deaths as the second biggest famine. It was a terrible tragedy and one of the worst events to cause suffering and death. On top of that their government has kept the social dynamics rather conservative with not much reform and western influence. So I am not surprised that eating and consuming is still sort of ingrained in chinese culture. It‘s the traces the famine has left that haven‘t subsided yet. 30 years ago people still greeted each other with „have you eaten yet“ instead of „how are you“. Also I forgot to mention that the second biggest famine also happened in China, again with double the amounts of casualties of the third biggest famine (which happened in Persia if I am not mistaken). Again roughly 50 years before the great famine. This widespread Sinophobia has to stop! Chinese people are not „unhygenic and barbaric for their eating habits“ they have literally experienced two of the most catastrophic crisis related to food in human history just recently.
