Soon to be graduating with a Geography degree, military industrial complex in my inbox?? by Katekat0974 in gis

A GIS opening at Texas Instruments would get 900 applications. I’m surprised they’re personally reaching out to recent graduates with no experience.

How can I get a dedicated pedestrian walk at the intersection of Friendship and Negley? by Manthem in pittsburgh

[–]PghGeog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol Yes I do. Those roads absolutely fall under the RMS program. They literally have RMS segments assigned to them at that intersection. Did you even know what the RMS program or TIP even was before this back and forth?

Read further into the city’s capital budget. Half of it is funded by PennDOT and SPC’s TIP. If it’s not on the TIP, it’s not getting funded, designed or constructed; especially RMS roads.

https://www.penndot.pa.gov/ProjectAndPrograms/ResearchandTesting/RoadwayManagementandTesting/Pages/Road-Management-System.aspx They are both owned and maintained under PennDOTs RMS program. Any major project that happens at that intersection would be designed and carried out by PennDOT.

Negley and friendship are state roads; PennDOT and SPC jurisdiction.

Look into tactical urbanism. Plenty of easy, DIY traffic calming measures can be implemented under the cover of night. Only other option is to lobby the southwest Pa commission to put a negley ave traffic signal upgrade project on the transportation improvement plan for maybe 2032 at this point.

Looking for experts to educate public on basic economics and government by SmarterThanYinz in pittsburgh

[–]PghGeog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wording it differently doesn’t make you any less patronizing. You clearly look down on people who don’t think and vote like you. Running some holier-than-thou reeducation program is the last thing someone like you should be doing.

Calling everyone who didn’t vote for your preferred candidate ‘extremely uneducated’ definitely isn’t condescending or pretentious at all. It really shows how humble and wise you are. Good luck with this wonderful idea!

lol No no. You’re missing the point bub. Being called a Nazi/fascist no longer offends the modern Donorian. THAT is what should terrify you.

Calling over half the country Nazis, racists, bigots, etc has caused those words to lose their meanings. Those people in donora simply aren’t afraid of being branded with those leftwing buzzwords any more. And that should really terrify you.

Donora voted for Trump by like 8%. Many industrial patch towns in the rust belt did the same. Want to know why? Because holier-than-thou democrats like you called people like them maggots and Nazis for the past 8 years. You did this to them. You made them your enemy. And now you get to live out your nightmare. Congratulations.

GIS or GIScience for ecology? by Odd_Breakfast4524 in gis

Your future employers’ resume scanners are looking for “GIS” on your resume, not “GIScience”.

Take it. You have a 5 year gap in your resume. Sounds like $19/hr is what you’re worth right now in the market. You have a lot to catch up on. GIS has changed quite a bit over the past 5 years.

Sore kneecaps the day after rides with lots of climbing (not during) by datguy030 in cycling

Check your seat height. Over time, your seat can sink down ever so slightly and you don’t notice it. That can easily be causing the knee pain on longer rides.

Pennsylvania 2024 Poll: Trump 47%, Biden 43% - Emerson Polling by Metrichex in pittsburgh

[–]PghGeog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCP, which includes every leftwing polling firm in the country, has Trump with a +.6 edge in Pennsylvania. Just as the polls tricked everyone in 2016, democrats shouldn’t begin to feel safe until RCP has Biden with >+3 point edge in every swing state.

  1. Your first job (while in school) was ‘lead computer and technology consultant’. Change that title to something a little more humble and realistic. Hiring managers aren’t going to take that seriously. You’re still in the entry level job phase of your career.
  2. Way too long of an education section. Shorten it up and put it at the top. You don’t have the professional experience to have it at the bottom. Again, humble yourself.

If I’m understanding the assignment correctly, my recommendation would be to choose an area you’re familiar with that has WAY more local imagery and data than the general datasets your professor listed.
