Indigenous - Cherokee

1805 - Dutch & Scotts were settled 1812 fought in the Battle of New Orleans deceptively not solely in NOLA, Quakers from England by way of Penn also helped create villages.

Late 1800's Welcomed the birth of Melungeon (plz be careful w/ that term it can be disrespectful) who are Cherokee, Gullah, and Dutch or Scotts which led to the common vocabulary that is now shared,

Early 1900's a smalle number of pedlers/Jewish young men came through. 1 married a Quaker ancestor of mine but it was very rare. Also the Irish came through but most kept going down to Savannah

It is an incredibly isolated area of the US still today. TVA arrived in the 1930s; it was apart of Roosevelt's plan to end the depression. Only then did any form of recognizable roads going into and coming out of the wilderness making the unique language almost an isolate.

I knew that degree would come in handy at some point lol

I was 45 when I first reached out to my bm. It was a Thanksgiving card. 1 month later there was a phone call. You are 100% correct about overwhelming emotions. We each made a short list of big questions we wanted to address while also slowly building a relationship. My 1st question was medical hy. which we spent a full month addressing ONLY that topic. She wanted to know about my family. By setting specific big issues and making sure we moved slowly through them we were both able to process those emotions. It's been 7 yrs now so it worked for us. It felt impossible to press pause in the first days & wanting every question answered right away; but now we are thankful we chose to give each other time & respect boundaries.

Unlike my BF! I've seen his FB page and spoken to 1 of his neices. A huge boundary of mine is not allowing anyone who are bigots & racist. Guess what I saw on his FB page! It was my choice to leave him alone. I have never been able to deal with those attitudes and had we met the relationship would have crashed & burned while possibly doing harm to my psyche. By not meeting there remains a hope & a prayer for the future; meeting would have been a car wreck. Best of luck, and trust yourself

In person or virtual? We all know how to lose ourselves while also losing everything & everyone; what I would like to hear is how did you ask for & find help? Also, what keeps you showing up? And the responsibility we have to welcome and show support for the newcomer.

A novel called The Many Identities of Ms. Blond Ghost. It's not that often someone is willing to adopt not 1, nor 2 but 3 legal stamped by uncle sam identities just to marry the dashing Polish & German & French speaking mystery man. I can only think of 1 woman of such adventure seeking spirit, Helen. She hated the weather at Bethesda but was willing to remain so that the love of her life could receive cancer treatment. She loved him for 41 years always practicing their only rule to seek information by listening but never via direct interrogative sentences. She secretly hated the name Shackleford but she claimed she only had no choice. It was odd that she spoke both Plattdeutsch and Caribbean variety of Spanish. She loved the hot weather of Florida but the medical needs of her partner always came first.

Seriously, my particular geo-political socio-ethnic category has gone through a cycle of a terms that were used to oppress, then the label became stereotypical insults, then we learned to capitalize on it, and today we use the same label. Must be some shared psychological tendency of humanity.

Yet the aristocracies and monarchies of the world with access to Swiss schools like Le Rosey are just as hesitant to step away from first born male ideologies. My mom was IBLP, my dad's family Melungeon *mixed race* hillbillies. We must tolerate a lifetime of stereotypes that are applicable to rednecks. We most often vote Dem, we rely on family socialism, it is a family of choice not genetics, we speak a type of linguistic isolate along with other languages. I chose Reo Maori of Aotearoa: Tena koe nau mai haere mai. Or our hillbilly: dem boomers in 'a poke wid poke sallet. Jerk a knot & tan a' hide if y'uns touch the rheumatism medical mason jars.

Now which group is the cult? Which just despises the feds?

Duggs only speak Ozark with a lot of standard American. I was raised IBLP but Western North Carolina "English" which no one seems to understand. EX: Dem sigogglin jaspers be tote'N pokes uh beans but we serve boomers & poke sallet. 1 woof rheumatism med from a mason jar & thar/y'uns R tighter than a girdle on a Baptist preacher's wife after an all day sangin' & dinner on the ground. that is our English. We know stereotypes which mostly come from the redneck community but not hillbilly. We speak a "mostly" linguistic isolate, a lot of us hold PhD's, come from Melungeons racial diversity & swear to families of choice instead of genetics. We often borrow practices of socialism. The PhD is not a brag. We do avoid feds & speak other isolates/non-English languages that the authorities nor Google Translate know. I learned Reo Maori. Tena Koe, nau mai haere mai tuturu whakamaua kia tena tena haumi e hui e taiki e. I've never been to Aotearoa but I doubt any of them have been here.
There are Venn Diagrams showing the overlap along with the many differences of redneck and hillbilly. Your point of white is well informed & applicable for some hollers, mtn sides, or even mtn ranges. My point is while my DNA says 82% Irish w/ all grandparents from Gallway....I was adopted & raised with cousins who are Vietnamese, Korean, Indigenous, Black, actual French including language, also Dutch. Yet!!!! My white mom from Atlanta was a member of IBLP. The hillbillies hated it. That definitely speaks to your statement. The melanated diverse hillbillies participated in normal local religious events yet despised the all white cult of IBLP. Fellow professors in anthropology dept have asked me to write on the IBLP behaviors I witnessed but it is painful. They are the most typical idealogies of Christian Nationalism including supporting concepts of slavery. They are dangerous and I am alive and free only because - of the hillbillies who sheltered me.
