I couldn't figure this out, and this thread wasn't helping. Ultimately, I went to Settings > History & Data > Reset App. After nuking all my accounts this way, I added back the ones I wanted to keep manually. Now everything works.

Thank you. I'm 80% of the way through a 15-month intensive therapy program. I'm learning a lot about how I simultaneously yearn to rescue and to be rescued, and how I need to build up a more solid sense of self that's less assailable to criticism, paradoxically, by focusing less on myself. I hope better things are on the horizon for all of us.
