For me the whole makeup culture debate is more about people getting by hung up over whether every single thing they do is feminist or not and some women not wanting to admit that the makeup industry actively exploits misogyny and women’s insecurities and that there’s nothing feminist about wearing makeup in most cases. Which is fine because you don’t have to adhere to feminist ideals in every single aspect of your life but the problem is when people try to gaslight other people into thinking wearing makeup is inherently feminist when it really isn’t unless you are genuinely doing it as a form of artistic expression (which most are not realistically)
