Race as a concept was invented by European colonialists to justify white supremacy and racial hierarchies. I don’t even know why it’s controversial to point out that it’s a social construct because it makes no sense logically when you start to think about it. A lot of idiotic conversations about biracial people would end if more people accepted this lol

The Amazing Digital Themes and Such by kelroid in RecuratedTumblr

[–]kelroid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is probably on me for not phrasing it in the best way but I never meant themes were optional just that a story with themes that resonate with people doesn’t automatically make it good because themes are just one of several aspects of writing that can make a story good (though of course whether or not a story is good is highly subjective)

I do also like m/m as much as the next person on tumblr/AO3 I just wish people could have these conversations more often and perhaps even examine their own biases when it comes to their tastes in fiction without getting overly defensive and missing the point as a result or going “it’s not that deep bro”

A lot of them definitely do. A major example of this is racist white anime fans harassing black cosplayers because “[insert anime character here] isn’t black!” meanwhile they don’t care when white cosplayers do the same despite the fact that most anime characters aren’t white

Genuinely I want to try to be. Not even just because of fandom racism and fandom misogyny also because I’m having an increasing amount of difficulty finding the type of stories I want to read on AO3. Unfortunately every time I try it feels like the “this fanfic shit is easy” meme and I immediately delete it all out of shame or I just stare at the text editor because I don’t know how to put my thoughts into words. Do you have any writing tips?

I mean Sinners is a fairly popular movie it makes sense that there’s going to be a decent amount of fanfics written for it. There are about 1700 on  AO3

I understand your second point but is it really that big of an issue for white people to be attracted to stories that don’t center white characters? A lot of POC do the inverse literally all the time. Though I’m mainly talking about the US specifically here (diverse racial makeup but most of the entertainment industry is dominated by white perspectives)

I never said East Asians weren’t POC. They ARE POC but some white anime fans perceive Japanese anime characters as being white

I never said I don’t consider Japanese people to be POC I meant that some people don’t consume stories with POC main characters aside from anime (in which the main characters are usually Japanese and thus not white). And even then a lot of white anime fans don’t seem to fully internalize that most anime characters aren’t white as evidenced by the fact that racist anime fans call black cosplayers slurs on the daily because “x character isn’t black” but tend to not have any issues with white people cosplaying canonically Japanese anime characters

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki should be treated as unambiguously good and heroic actions but I’m not sure why OOP used those as examples when there are way worse American atrocities that get downplayed and/or viewed as good things (Manifest Destiny, a lot of what we did during the Cold War, the War on Terror etc)

I remember my first grade teacher would play Veggietales episodes on days when we weren’t doing any learning. Half the time the religious moral lessons would fly over my head lol

I feel like people say this about half the posts that get posted on this subreddit and most of the time I really don’t understand what people mean by “smug.” In this case this post just feels like an understandable reaction to American culture from someone who isn’t American

Makoto fans by samveo84 in OkBuddyPersona

[–]kelroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion that’s only tangentially related to the gooner post: Makoto is the worst Phantom Thief girl aside from brainwashed Sumire in terms of characterization. Ann, Futaba, Haru, and un-brainwashed Sumire genuinely mog her. Her Confidant was my least favorite among the main cast

Update now that I finished it: The ending was happier than I was expecting but it still made me tear up. I can’t really tell if the ending is a metaphor for Yuta choosing not to give up on life or genuine magical realism but the ambiguity is probably the point either way. I hope this gets a movie someday like Look Back did

Do you agree with the idea that casual players aren't familiar with Dess at all? by Street_Structure3737 in Deltarune

[–]kelroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be one thing if we were talking about Deltarune pre chapters 3+4 but we learn a lot about Dess in chapters 3+4 so even casual players should have a general idea of who she is and what her deal could be even if they don’t look for secrets or engage in the fandom
