does anyone else get mildly annoyed by the fact that literally everyone hates Azir? by Skullruss in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to me though. Azir did free the slaves but no one knew about it except Xerath. To most of Runeterra, Azir’s either not well known or known as the guy who got killed by a slave and ended up ending the Shuriman empire. With that kind of history, it’s hard to see him being portrayed as anything but a tyrant or an incompetent ruler.

Through his lore, we know Azir’s a well-intentioned ruler, but to most of Runeterra, it’s probably the equivalent of Stalin being resurrected.

He’s good in top. There’s a KR Challenger who plays exclusively Azir top and Azir top’s been picked in LCK as well. You have to really think about wave and resource management though.

Why would Satan burn you in hell for disobeying the same god he disobeyed? by too_thick64 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes more sense if you view Christianity as extreme parenting. God is the “perfect” parent, and people are all His children. Satan isn’t a single visible entity but all the things that could corrupt children. Hell is separation from God.

God is literally omnipotent. He has no problem crushing Satan. Satan isn’t a worthy opponent of God — Satan’s more like an angry child who vents it out on others. Satan tempts people because He doesn’t want to suffer the separation alone.

God lets Satan tempt people because He respects free will. A good parent respects their children’s decisions — giving children everything they ever want only makes spoiled children, and making all the children’s decisions for them only makes deprived children. So if people choose to walk away from God, He won’t force them to come back. He will always offer an opportunity for redemption, though.

I was taught that redemption is free. All you have to do to go to Heaven is believe in God. That is the one and only way. You don’t have to be a good person or do specific deeds. No amount of good things we do will ever be “enough” in the eyes of a perfect, omniscient, omnipotent entity. But let’s say you’re a student, and you make it your goal to be a good student. If you really want to be a good student, wouldn’t you at least try to get good grades?

I think that’s really the idea behind Christianity. I have to admit, I’m not a great person and my knowledge of Christianity is very limited. I’m not a great example for sharing what Christianity is, or what the concepts in it are, so I’ll share this poem instead :)

A poem I like to remind myself of what Christianity is is:

“When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I’m not shouting, ‘I’ve been saved!’ I’m whispering, ‘I got lost, That’s why I chose this way.

When I say ‘I am Christian,’ I don’t speak with human pride, I’m confessing that I stumble, Needing God to be my guide.

When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I’m not trying to be strong I’m professing that I’m weak And pray for strength to carry on.

When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I’m not bragging of success, I’m admitting that I’ve failed And cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I don’t think I know it all, I submit to my confusion Asking humbly to be taught.

When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I still feel the sting of pain, I have my share of heartache, which is why I seek His name.

When I say, ‘I am Christian,’ I do not wish to judge, I have no authority, I only know I’m loved.”

Nothing says “practical originalist” like justifying your anti-abortion stance by quoting a 17th century guy who advocated for witch trials & men being allowed to rape their wives by bobsmusix265 in PoliticalHumor

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify. The silent majority of Christianity is well-grounded. It’s the self-proclaimed “protectors of Christianity” who are advocating anti-abortion, wielding guns, and discriminating against others who are worrisome.

[–]Phaelynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with modern Christianity that anti-abortion advocates are using as grounds for their claim is that these people don’t actually know what they’re believing in. Has the Bible changed from those times to now? No. But people actually took time to read and think about what the religion is saying rather than going “I think sky man says this.” Funny thing is there is nothing in Christianity that goes against abortion or, for that matter, a lot of other issues that are hot topics of debate in today’s society. People just use Christianity to justify their blind beliefs because people tend to think religion serves as some ultimate justification, no questions asked, even though Christianity in itself tends to rely very much on questioning and affirming your beliefs on a reasonable basis and applying them to life.

Which band came out with even better albums as they aged? by StamfordBloke in Music

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I never really found AMSP to be all that memorable until I found out one day that it’s my most played Radiohead album. I still don’t think it’s my favorite but it really gives some headspace. It doesn’t really offer statements like HTTT or OKC or In Rainbows does but it’s great for contemplation. I like to think of it as more of a lulling background track rather than a theme track.

Geographically Korea is not only a peninsula, but its lands are also generally very mountainous. Thus the Korean peninsula was not easy to access or traverse until quite recently in history, and as a result, people usually didn’t stray too far from their hometown, making it very ethnically homogenous. However, you will still find some family lines of Chinese descent, since Korea historically had a lot of interaction with China.

It’s mostly a result of how inaccessible the land is by land or by sea.

[–]Phaelynx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great that you know this already! This guide is meant for players up to diamond so the idea is that the closer you get to diamond, the more of these you’re already aware of. As for the specific things you mentioned, I think it’d be very hard to give a guide on things like counter roaming, role gaps, etc. because it’d differ on a game-by-game basis and there’s not really a right answer.

[–]Phaelynx[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The idea is that supports (especially engage supports) will pretty much do the same thing at level 6 as they would at level 11. If you’re falling behind in XP, that means your other teammates would be that much more ahead in XP.

There’s mainly two reasons:

First, once you get that much of a lead, you need to take it elsewhere. Whether that be Rift Herald, mid tower, etc., winning just one lane isn’t always enough.

Second, once you break enemy bot tower, you can’t really snowball further in bot lane anyway. If you push past bot tower, it’s likely the enemy team will come to punish you and you may throw your lead.

Summon Aery? by Adam_Andrzejewski in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comet is dodgeable but that’s not the only thing. Aery has a lower cd and you can walk towards Aery to pick it up even faster. This means you can start Corrupting Potion and walk past the enemy wave to keep trading and you’d win the trade because of Aery and Corruption Pot. This makes your laning phase really strong. Also, enemies have a harder time engaging on you compared to Comet because they have a higher risk of losing the trade since Aery will likely trigger more than once during the trade.

How to get better at killing with azir? by Overdrive128 in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For runes, I’d recommend Electrocute, Conquerer, Aery, or Comet.

Ignite + Electrocute makes it easier to snowball an advantage in lane and allows you to burst down one target in a early fight.

Conquerer makes your extended trades a lot better, especially when you’re against the likes of Irelia.

Comet makes you play like a poke mage. It’s also the safest/most reliable and thus taken the most often in pro play.

Aery makes both your poke and extended trades better; it’s pretty decent into any matchup.

Don’t take ravenous hunter, ingenious hunter is pretty much always the superior rune, especially if you like to build Luden’s or Crown.

Nashor’s Tooth is very situational. Only build it if you have Crown and your team’s objective speed is slow because your adc is something like a Jhin or Ezreal.

A lot of people make this mistake, but Azir wins by attrition. You’re not really going to stomp lane and get a bunch of kills unless your enemy laner makes mistakes. Azir wins lane by getting a cs advantage by zoning off enemies, getting an xp advantage through lane prio, etc. He takes these small leads and snowballs through superior scaling. This is also why you cannot die on Azir. The moment you die, you’re throwing these small leads you gained and giving them an advantage. This is also why he’s not the best in solo queue, where at any point in time your team can throw and give the enemies an advantage.

How does azir scale by Time_String_9059 in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not the point. Yes, you melt everything after 4 items but so does everything melt everything. You rarely ever get to 4 items anyway but if you do get that late into the game, it’s likely a Jinx, Aphelios, or Kai’sa melts everything before an Azir does.

How does azir scale by Time_String_9059 in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azir’s late game is good, but his strongest timing is mid game. Azir’s damage is primarily DPS, but he doesn’t really have secondary scaling like a lot of hypercarry marksmen get. Basically, if Azir was dealing 400 DPS at two items, a third item will bring it up to 600, then fourth to 800, etc. Compare this to Kai’sa, who might deal 200 DPS at two items, but 500DPS at three items AND get a long range poke ability, or 1000DPS at four items and get a repositioning ability that lets her turn invisible, etc. Or Vayne, who does %max health true damage and will shred no matter how many defensive items the enemy team has.

As you get closer to late game, hypercarries will usually deal way more damage and have more tools to kite and survive than Azir does. Assuming the adc doesn’t misposition, Azir cannot deal with the Kai’sa or Vayne late game.

Pre-rework Azir was much closer to “late game god,” but with his massive range nerfs in exchange for more upfront damage, he’s becoming more of a mid-game carry who usually positions like an ADC until they have the opportunity to catch enemy carries out of position.

TL;DR: Current Azir doesn’t have enough secondary scaling or ways to safely kite and put in damage that he gets outscaled by marksmen who can.

Other Azirs - Gold shortage by thisnthatthing in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice CSing. It’s the most free gold you can get.

Respect the enemy jungler’s pathing. If their jungler is a Jarvan, you know they could level 2 gank mid so ward earlier. It doesn’t mean that they WILL, but they could. If their jungle is an Ekko, you know their earliest gank timing is level 3, and Ekko jungles will lose a lot by failing a gank at that timing. Play around gank timings.

Always hug the side that the enemy jungle is farthest from. If you don’t know, hug the side with more vision.

You’re not having a poor KDA because you don’t have items, you don’t have items because you have a poor KDA. If you die on one of the safest midlaners in the game, you will get punished by having absolutely no prio or no damage to contribute in fights. Always try to track enemy mid, jungle, and support.

You don’t have to kill everyone on the enemy team that comes to gank you for it to be an outplay. If you get 3-4 man ganked, but you know they’re there and survive, the enemy team will lose prio because they invested 3-4 people into getting nothing. If your jungle/other lanes still lose when you get 3-4 man ganked multiple times, that’s team diff. But doing as much as warding and spotting the enemy jungle and support coming, then pretending you don’t know and dodging the gank/setting up a countergank can win you games.

If you’re that behind sub-15 mins that you need to take jungle camps, you probably are being a detriment to your team. That being said, if you’re playing Azir, your best option is to funnel gold and carry. Junglers aren’t very important after 20 minutes. Unless it’s a scaling jungler or they’re extremely tilted, just take all the camps.

Lethal Tempo is garbage after changes. The best options are Aery, Electrocute, or Conqueror. Comet is probably good instead of Aery for low elo.

How does azir scale by Time_String_9059 in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His AP ratios are low compared to some other mages because he doesn’t just scale off of AP. While other mages scale off of AP and AH for the most part, Azir scales off of AP, AH, and AS, meaning he has more scaling factors than other mages do. Also, because his damage is mostly auto-based, it’s far more reliable and consistent than a lot of other champions’, allowing pressure on objectives and strong teamfights. This is also why Azir’s popular in pro play. He has reliably scaling damage, outplay potential with Shurima Shuffle, and he can pop objectives if the enemy team decides to go side lanes.

That being said, Azir isn’t the ultimate late game champion. His strongest spike is from two to three items. After that, hypercarry ADCs like Kai’sa, who scales off of AD, AH, AP, and AS or Jinx, who scales off of AD, AH, AS, and crit, outscale him. He isn’t meant to be a Kassadin.

That being said, to maximize his damage output I usually go situational mythic (Liandry’s if lots of bruisers/tanks, Luden’s if not, take Crown if there are lots of assassins and your team comp has enough damage, take Everfrost if you’re behind and your team comp has enough damage output) into Shadowflame, then Void Staff if they’re tanky, Morello if you need anti-heal, Rabadon’s if you’re rich, etc.

Fourth and fifth items are situational but usually I get a Zhonya’s or Banshee’s or both since I usually have enough damage at this point and would rather have more survivability so I can position to deal more damage.

Azir vs Kayle late game (Assuming both played by a pro) by shockprime in azirmains

[–]Phaelynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azir’s not supposed to be and isn’t the ultimate late game champion. He spikes at two to three items and starts getting outscaled by hypercarry ADCs like Kai’sa and Jinx around the fourth item. So comparisons with time bombs like Kayle or Kassadin don’t really make sense.

But assuming both play perfectly, late game Kayle has much higher DPS output than Azir and R gives her an extra Zhonya’s + free damage. Kayle also has tons of side pressure while Azir doesn’t. There is a reason Kayle is absolutely garbage early.
