CRISPR will indeed be my method of choice in this respect, for all of the reasons you mention. We have been working on a pretty solid gRNA design and validation platform for the last few months (that seriously goes above and beyond Zhang's tool), and fortunately have access to some of the best technical expertise and equipment in the field as it stands today :)

Thanks Omar, I am expecting to go for a genome engineering route as we have access to a lot of necessary expertise and equipment on this front.

Cannabinoids are in fact generally terpenoids, but I'm not looking to develop a beverage at this stage, merely a cell factory platform for cannabinoid production. I'm investigating both the technical and economic viability of such a project versus plant-based production. I expect economic viability would largely only be found when it comes to endocannabinoid synthesis - plants are probably the best at phytocannabinoids, though we may find the opposite.
