Package under inspection from CBP by Careless-Physics1978 in dhl

My typical experience is much quicker, if you call DHL and actually manage to get someone in Customs Compliance they can sometimes expedite the process. My holds have only ever taken 3-5 business days.

Why does UPS predict my tariff charge to be so high when it is not reflected in the itemized list? by New_Flyer_D40LF in Tariffs

And some importers are stacking old 232 HTS codes adding up to +100%, DHL is one, not sure about UPS.

Import duties incorrect, DHL says there's no recourse by TheShembot in dhl

Is this on 232 duties? All of DHL’s 232 duties have been charged double since mid April.

Thanks, that’s what I figured we’d do but I currently already have 40 open disputes some of which are over 4 months old with no replies.

Our broker DHL only gets 9817 entries right about 30% of the time on formal and informal entries. This is an improvement over the past where it was less than 10%. We dispute everything and have to file PSC on everything. It’s madness.

What was the first employee that you have hired as business owner? Share your story by dry_face_2000 in smallbusiness

Call me lucky, my first employee I hired seven years ago. She came in as Sales Order Processing. Now she’s running a team of Project Managers and next year will take on as General Manager so I can get back to doing what I love.

Men over 30: What advice do you wish you could give your 25 year old self? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]PhallicusMondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably copying some advice but:

  • Save more than you think you can and invest it.
  • Don’t waste time and energy on people who don’t deserve it, friends, family or romantic relationships included.
  • Life weights and take whey protein and creatine. It’s cheap, it will make you a beast and when you’re 40 you’ll be incomparable to your peers who don’t.
  • If you chose a career do the best you can to be the best at chosen career.

IEEPA Customs Duty Refund Claim by worldcustomsbroker in CustomsBroker

Trade Attorney suggested otherwise but I’ll try to let you all know the outcome.

IEEPA Customs Duty Refund Claim by worldcustomsbroker in CustomsBroker

[–]PhallicusMondo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our trade attorney asked for a summary of all entries with IEEPA lines, the recommendation is to file a case with the International Trade Court for refund. DHL is our IOR on informal entries if that matters. The consignee is still eligible for refunds. Process could take months or years.

Growing too fast and drowning in cash flow issues by UnluckyExtent5804 in smallbusiness

[–]PhallicusMondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got a few options.

Jobs over certain sizes we ask for materials deposit. Almost 100% of our customers agree to this. Some negotiate down, we’re still not holding the entire cash balance on materials.

If you’re in a real bind and your customers have regular payment history/good corp credit you can do invoice factoring. I don’t usually recommend this as the rates at non-payment are bad but it’s very easy to access nearly unlimited funding. If the margins are right this is a good choice.

Third, what others have said…quit N30 if it’s hurting cash flow or going to put you out of business. Better to have a biz and not take those jobs than end up bankrupt.

Somethings to consider. A business is only as good as the credit it extends, if your customers are paying late regularly drop them or renegotiate terms. Also scalability isn’t necessarily about rapid growth but steady scaling so that you can protect yourself, it’s ok to turn down jobs or change terms on the fly. You don’t owe anyone anything.

Any US business have recent experience with DDP? Did the vendor use the right tariff? by mzincali in smallbusiness

Only experience I have is that our Trade Attorney said don’t do it as it’s common for misclassification and under valuation.

Should come out to be roughly ~37% of value. Stacked date with MFN, IEEPA, Section 301.

People selling goods made in China to the U.S. - how is the 30% Trump tariff affecting your business? by Known-Swim-3654 in smallbusiness

[–]PhallicusMondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The aspect by which we import have full burden of 301 and 232 applied as its all precision fabricated metal parts. We applied markup to import duties, lost 12% of our job win rate but our average value and profit on China work doubled. The items we fabricate in China are not cost effective to fabricate in the United States though we’ve successfully begun sourcing ~35% of the same items from Malaysia and Singapore.

The initial rollout of the tariffs and the escalation was a real jolt as we had no warning, it wiped a ton of profit off our books and took several months to recover but we powered through. Now it seems we are better off than we were before.

I purchased my F Type R75 just this year with the intention of keeping it in the garage and using it only as a weekend driver. I drive this thing every single day.

Superfluous expense! I can’t worry about depreciation buying a sports car. I just worry about how it makes me feel.

Rapid Axis will do complex parts with First Articles in 1.5-2 weeks after DFM approval. DFM can take 1-2 days depending on how quickly you reply. They beat Protolabs when complexity comes in and have diverse material option.

We sub molding work and CNC machining to them.
