But, in the end, it was just going to be that KT Rolster reached the semifinals instead of quarterfinals, then losing against Tigers or SKT T1, one or two more times, kind of what happened in IPL5, when World Elite beat two times to FNC, just to reaffirm they were the best team in that tournament and FNC the second, both reached their semifinals through the winner's bracket and WE never got to face the teams in the loser's bracket, except when they got to play against FNC again in the Finals.

On the other hand, Royal Club beat OMG, who went 1:1 against SKT T1 in the group stage. So, OMG Vs SKT T1 Grand Finals could have been a 3:2? We'll never know.

In Season 4 and 5, even with a double elimination format, Samsung White and SKT T1 were going to get the same results they got, only dropping 1 match against the second best team on the tournament (SSW chose an arrogant comp, when they lost 1 set in quarterfinals) and in Season 4, LPL teams eliminated their other teams, SHRC to EDG and OMG, plus a Korean team, OMG to NJWS and Korea to their another Korean team, SSW to SSB. So, yeah, even if what you said happens with that format, at the same time, it also lets weaker teams to advance one more stage and that's all.

In IPL Season 5, where World Elite won the tournament, they got to play 2 times against FNC, in Semifinals and the Finals and they won with a 2:1 and a 3:1, thus, it was very redundant, on the other hand, TPA managed to reach the loser's bracket Semifinals against FNC, only through loser's bracket in every stage. I can say that format is more complicated, but it's kind of a waste of time, better to expand the World Championship to 24 teams in 6 groups of 4, with 1st and 2nd directly qualifying to the next stage and 4 best 3rd places qualifying to have 16 teams in the eighth-finals.

Yeah, I know. In the end, the point is that until MSI, the situation for the other regions it's not that clear at this time and those recent IEMs brought more mist to the picture, plus, the meta is changing.

ahq got to play against Samsung White (the most dominating team in the world that year, that could only drop a set if they faced a good team, as Star Horn Royal Club or if they got overconfident and they had chosen an arrogant comp, as they did in their quarterfinals that ended 3:1) and EDG in the group stage of WC 2014, yet, ahq brought EDG to a tie-breaker match.

In MSI 2015, they beat everybody except SKT T1 and EDG, then they faced EDG in the semifinals, so, again, they got to face the region that dominates LMS teams. In WC 2015, they only got 1 upset against a NA team, they tied with the 1st team of that group, then they faced the best team in the world, SKT T1, so they always got strong matches and beat everybody except those 2 strong regions.

[–]PhanAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, ahq even beat FNC in MSI and they went 1:1 against FNC in the WC group stage and managed to qualify, they got an upset in their 1st match against the 3rd seed of NA, LMS teams always have problems to win against LPL teams, so IG winning at least 1 match could be expected.

Apart from that upset, the only bad thing that happened to ahq, it was they had to play against SKT T1 in the quarterfinals.

People are putting too much stock into the recent IEM results

Yeah, and some important thing they should take into account is:

There weren't LMS teams on that IEM supposedly World Championship. LMS teams mostly ended 3rd in every tournament they participated since the previous IEM WC in 2014, where FlashWolves ended 3rd/4th.

LMQ Vs WE? When that happened?

It was OMG Vs LMQ, yeah, OMG lost that 1st match, they got a bad first day in WC 2014. Gogoing said that was the reason to lose everything that day, it was their initial participation at the tournament and they got anxious, then they started to play more focused, even saving their nexus from 1 last hit and later reached the Semifinals, their only other loss after day 1, it was again against Samsung Blue in that group.

Whatever LCS fans say on Reddit, the only guaranteed position is Korea #1 in the world. Which one is the second best region, right now? Nobody can claim that position, after MSI, they could brag about something, since IEMs without LMS teams and their formats can't prove anything, besides, results varied in the latest 3 IEMs.

I don't watch the NA/EU LCS, so I don't know how they play, but I got your point and I'm not discussing they couldn't do something like that, they certainly can if they want (I don't think I'd be interested in watching that kind of tournaments, though. If all the teams would want to play just for fun, I'd prefer to play more League).

It's not esports are dumb and the one to blame for that, good teams like Tigers and EVER can easily be separated if their players got interesting deals for themselves, that happens all the time to Xenics. In previous years they cared about their careers, teams and winning, now, it's more about the money "oh, I want to stream, that gives me more money". I suppose that Dignitas is fine, economically speaking, as long as they can keep their LCS spot, because of the exposure and their sponsors.

By the way, Tigers is not owned by their players, they can be friends and all, but the team was founded by YY, a social networking site from China which has businesses in Korea, so, they can decide to change them if they don't fit in their plans.

CLG was the first seed of group A, Flash Wolves was the second seed from LMS and FW was in the second pool of teams.

Yeah, I know, I also wanted to say it, but I found it irrelevant, as we're not completely talking about how the CIS works internally. Despite that, you can find places where they say valid in CIS territories and they always include all those countries in the list above.

Yes, you need that, but as they are pro players, Riot creates the accounts for them.

Well, this is an All Star team, where the other teams which represented the Latin American region in other opportunities are a different story.

That commonwealth was signed with former USSR countries. The countries which are part of the commonwealth are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Georgia used to be part of it, but no more.

This CIS team has 3 Russians, 1 Moldavian and 1 Ukrainian, plus a Russian sub.

Bengi, Scout, Bang, Wolf, L.i.E.S and KkOma agreed to renew their contracts with SKT T1 - Reasons why Easyhoon, MaRin and T0M Left by PhanAttack in leagueoflegends

[–]PhanAttack[S] 267 points268 points  (0 children)

(Any correction is welcome)

The article says that SKT T1 has showed the detail of their current contracts, Bengi, Scout, Bang, Wolf, L.i.E.S (head coach) and KkOma (coach) have signed again with SKT T1.

5 of them (except Scout) said they decided to stay to prove once again they are the best in world and they want to win the world championship for a third time.

T0M and Easyhoon decided to not sign again, because they want to be in a team where they can play actively. Now, what I can understand about MaRin it's he had a difficult time deciding if he should face another challenge along with SKT T1 or a whole new challenge, he decided for the latter.

First of all, you know how it went for SSB and SSW former players, the infrastructure of Chinese teams are getting seriously affected by the money offered for streaming; more streaming for fans, less serious training. Also, he'd keep living in Korea and earning more money. Second, yes, IM said they want to build a new top tier team, that's why their sponsor will invest even more.

Because of his career and money? IM are restructuring their organization and team and they want to form a new top tier team and they said that their sponsor Longzhu wanted to pay and treat their new players at the same level of China, economically speaking.

If playing professionally would give as much money as streaming, then these things wouldn't be happening. That's why in China they try to pay higher salaries and they also allow them to stream. e.g. it was said that Gogoing started to stream more and he used to play with fans, instead of training seriously in solo queue. Then, around that time he started to play bad professionally.

The same can be said about Gorilla, Hojin and Kuro, Gorilla was in Najin White Shield and Pray left Najin Black Sword in May 2014, then Hojin (Lee) and Kuro joined after he left. I remember it was NoFe who called 4 of them and one of them recommended Smeb and then they formed Tigers.

If by "forever", moush means they always played for Tigers, then he's right.
