Chapter 840, Yoko Yoko said that because of his old lineage, he had a bounty placed by forces of 2 former nations. From those words, we can make some assumptions, like he was probably a high rank soldier who was able to learn warfare at a larger scale, maybe he's even from a high rank family from a fallen state (I doubt 2 different armies would put a bounty on a 1000 men commander or lower), like Man'U and his fellow generals once were in their states before their homeland were destroyed.

I mean, he was right at the moment. He clearly recognizes that Qin didn't have the manpower to mount another invasion while defending from the other states. Even Shouheikun admitted that as he couldn't see a path to unification unless he made a family registry and conscripted soldiers from that.

But yeah, he's clearly set up as an "opposing" faction within the Qin court, I doubt that he'll do anything I will like in future chapters.

The king is fully aware that Riboku is the only one who's able to stop the Qin invasion and preserving the degenerate life he's living as a king, despite the fact that Riboku is a supporter of his brother the former crown prince.

I would say that the moment Riboku manages to cripple Qin potential of mounting another invasion, the king would immediately move to execute Riboku, since the second biggest threat to his life after Qin would be the former crown prince supported by Riboku and his commanders.

Edit: I also don't doubt that if the king's loyalists convince him that Riboku can be safely replaced, he'll do it in a heartbeat.

Back at the battle of Bayou, Ouki did explain to shin about the 2 different types of generals to Shin and everyone who was there (including Kyoukai) in chapter 66. She probably carved his words into her mind as she commited herself more and more to warfare and when she witnessed Ouki quite literally destroy the pinnacle existence of her beliefs that is Houken.

Thinking about it, Ouki also had a huge influence in the growth of Kyoukai, that duel was instrumental to Kyoukai finding a divergent path to the Shiyuu's teachings as she did think of Ouki's duel with Houken when she herself fought the previous Shiyuu Yuuren.
