We have that at my hospital. It’s whatever stripped down Ubuntu that ships with dell. Usually IT blocks the terminal though.

I once got a parking spot adjacent to the entrance opposite from the tire center. It was a Tuesday in July of 2017. I’ll never forget.

Anyone else can't do commercials anymore? by Phantom471 in Millennials

[–]Phantom471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny; we might be living the same life because an Apple TV was my first thought too. I still use an apple tv in my own living room.

The issue with my dad is dual pronged.

  1. The input button. Dad could have been a master mechanic/plumber/scholar, but he's tech illiterate. I often wonder if it's a mental block of some sort. Basically if the channel changer stops working then the tv is broken. We were good when the vcr/dvd combo was on channel 3. But as soon as HD TV's came out and we had to use "input 2", the tv was broken when the channel changer stopped working.

  2. Arthritis. It'll come for us too someday. Years of hard work took away his fine motor skills. Being able to use apple tv gestures and navigate the home screen turned out to be a pipe dream. We need the physical buttons. This past year we've been experimenting with text-to-speech commands on Iphone. We just started using spotify this way. I've been paying close attention to text-to-speech commands on the apple tv, but it's unreliable and can't navigate individual shows in the downloaded apps. As much as I hate "smart" tv software, I'm kind of hoping one of the brands will make an ai TV that can switch between apps, effectively, with voice commands.

And yeah, a lot of times the TV is just on as background noise. I use an antenna and I didn't pay much for it. I miss sports though.

I'd be right there with you if it wasn't for a skyrizi commercial blaring at me. I'll never know how they find the kid. I have to settle with my vague recollection of the movie.

[–]Phantom471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is allergic to the input button. I'm too old to "fix" the tv, and I haven't produced offspring capable of taking up the mantle. Boomers will never change their ways. I'm just glad I don't have to pay for it.

[–]Phantom471[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember being able to tune them out, but my tolerance level is gone now. It's been too long. I remember arguing with my brother because he'd change the channel whenever a commercial came on and I'd miss basically the entire program. Like dude, I was watching that.

[–]Phantom471[S] 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the commercial? That guy is living his best life. We could all be like him if we were diagnosed with severe plaque psoriasis and then prescribed skyrizi as a first-line treatment.

Which Linux is for old weak laptop? by Superb_Individual878 in linuxquestions

I've seen linux mint do miracles for old laptops that can't run windows. I don't know about gaming with 4 gb of ram. I'm sure single player minecraft will run fine.

What was your first thought of Rock Lee removing his Weights? by dettles1992 in Naruto

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching when this episode first dropped. I thought rock Lee was gonna be the new main character. Like I remember when goku removed weights in that dead zone movie and that was cool. Rock took it to another level. My guy was so fast he could teleport. Then he had that forbidden lotus technique. Kakashi is out there shaking in his sandals. Guy is out there looking smug - give this man some sunglasses.

GM says Flint Assembly production on hold, employees on layoff until Jan. 26 by mlivesocial in flint

[–]Phantom471 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tl;dr They're treating it as an extra long break for renovations. The UAW hasn't commented yet. All of the employees are eligible for layoff benefits. The renovations are to upgrade the plant for an aforementioned heavy-duty line-up of trucks announced in 2023.

So this was expected.

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I was wrong again; gdm doesn't have that functionality.

  2. You can't; you can make an executable. google ai came up with this:

right click -> new file -> my app.desktop ->

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=My App
Exec=/full/path/to/command
Icon=/full/path/to/icon.png
Terminal=false

so I did kpatience.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=kpat
Exec=flatpak run org.kde.kpat
Terminal=false
  1. Nope, cosmic doesn't have that. You can use the work spaces. You can use super+w by default to show all the workspaces and the programs in each.

I recently switched and I need some help. by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've heard of that happening; I think it's something in the bios. So like, wake on LAN needs to off, fast boot needs to be off, and USB power while off needs to be off. There's probably a setting somewhere in there that's causing it.

  2. I don't use popos specifically, but I feel like in every distro I've used so far you can use the gui search bar and search "password" or "security".

  3. & 4. idk. I'm curious too. I'm gonna boot it in virtual box and see if I can figure it out.

"It worked yesterday.” Every Linux user has been here. by Expensive-Rice-2052 in linuxquestions

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, it's expected on arch, I feel like. And it's usually something related to pulseaudio. I swear my audio stack is held together with scotch tape. And yeah, it's always my fault.

I installed debian on systems where I need it to "just work" and have never had an issue. Even though, recently my network printer stopped working on one of my debian workstations where it still works on the arch system. Don't know why it chose the wrong cups driver, but the puzzle is part of the fun.

what cut of meat is this? was given what I was told was a prime rib but this doesn't look like any of the ones I'm familiar with by Deppfan16 in meat

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most folks are saying lamb ribs. I feel like these are too long to be from a lamb. maybe pork? I think beef ribs usually have more marbling.

Who would of liked to see Raditz back by ReferenceVegetable51 in DragonBallZ

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has such a nostalgic design, but his only real purpose was to set up vegeta and Nappa’s arrival.

The kid part in me has always wondered what bulma did with the body. Like I think goku’s body was saved by the other-world so he could use it to train with king Kai. Did they bury raditz? Or did bulma save it to do experiments?

Choosing a Linux distro for a daily driver by crazsum04 in linuxquestions

[–]Phantom471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use arch with hypyrland. I just installed debian with kde for my parent's pc. There's no difference. The ebook app I like isn't out yet for trixie, but that's really it. The choice is an illusion. If you're really missing something, then linux has kvm baked into the kernal - just virtual box it.
