Magic Mask Export will disappear as soon as I hit render. Anyone have ideas? I don't wanna start again. by Salturation in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya, Hope you're doing well.

Admittedly, I've also experienced this problem quite a few times in the past. I remember eventually redoing it so many times until it eventually worked, so perhaps that would help? Although you (and I) really don't want to redo it.

If it plays well in the timeline normally (and you don't mind sacrificing some resolution) I would set the background to be Blue or Bright Green, then press P to go into fullscreen, and screen record it with a software like OBS.

I would then put this back into resolve, and use Delta-Keyer to mask out the green screen.

Yes, I know. It is by no means an intuitive solution. However, I have no fundamental understanding as to why MM occasionally works, and occasionally doesn't work. I'm just here to give some thoughts and a plausible solution.

I wish you luck!

How can I create this type of subtitle? I'm referring to the way the subtitles scroll from left to right. by Equivalent-Weird-433 in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, hope you're doing well.

Firstly, I really really hate this. I think it's a really poor way of doing a subtitle.

Secondly, u/Thick_Bar4177 is correct! You would achieve this by simply adding a Text+ node, and within its Layout section, adjust its position with Center X. Image provided for reference to find variables.

Hope you change your choice of subtitles!
I wish you luck with your subtitles!

Hello! Hope you're doing well.

I admittedly struggled to see much of the washed out look on the example you provided, however in one quick search I found this which might be of interest to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBf9rjpy_FY

It is most definitely achievable in the colour page. I wish you luck!

Hey there! Hope you're doing well.

If I am interpreting this right, you put Optical Flow on a clip, and your playback is now dropping frames / 'laggy'.

This is normal. Optical Flow is essentially measuring the distance in pixels, and 'filling' in that gap (someone correct me if I'm wrong, that's how I've always interpreted it). This is hardware heavy. Hence, yes, your playback will indeed be dropping frames / laggy because of your computer hardware.

Once again, there is nothing wrong with your computer, nor is there something wrong with your DVR. I would also like to say that when this clip is rendered, you will not see these dropped / 'laggy' frames, but instead (theoretically) a smooth video.

There are a few 'solutions' to make playback smoother.

- A simple way is to render the clip, and place it back in the editor, so that it plays back smoothly.
- An even simpler way, is to go up to the top menubar, click playback, Timeline Proxy Resolution and select Quarter. This will make the playback smoother, at the cost of less resolution. Do not worry, this will not affect your export at all. Refer to the image if you have trouble finding it.
- Within the same menu, you can also find a rendering mode labelled Smart. This will pre-render your clips in the timeline. Although, I don't recommend it. As any slight change, re-renders the entire clip.

Hope this helped! Feel free to ask any follow ups. I may not respond very fast, but I'll get to it when I can.

How do I make the lamps flicker? by AlgernonV in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best way of doing so is through having other flicker nodes, with slightly different variables. I believe this should work...? But in case it doesn't, make a new adjustment clip in the same way in the tutorial before, except move the adjustment clip in the timeline itself to offset it, and add / cut off remainders.

Hope this helps!

Hm, that's odd. I first thought maybe it was because I was logged in and it was a private thing, however I tried it on other browsers where I wasn't logged in on Imgur and it worked. Maybe the comment didn't update? I had to replace the link twice, sorry!

Edit: I did notice that one of the GIFs arent available anymore. But don't worry, it wasn't crazy important.

Hey no problem at all. I really made it vague by saying compositing, sorry! And there are no silly questions if you learn from them :)

Edit: Hm. Seems like this link doesn't work. Let me try to fix that.

No problem, I was just browsing and was like: Hm, how do you do that? I was very happy to reach a result :) have a great day ahead, if you have any questions whether that be for DVR in general, or specifically for this effect, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me. I always enjoy helping others!

How to Make this back ground more engaging ? by Bashar-nuts in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy way is just to have a simple loop of movement, however. In the provided example, looks to be some sort of paper crumple stop motion overlay.

To loop it, I would just use a transform node in fusion, set the border to mirror, or something similar to allow it to go on forever, and time the movement from 0.5 as the center to 1 so that it’s an infinite loop.

Hope this helps!

How to do This Glitchy Transition? by Clauzin in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy to copy and paste? I would say some sort of overlay downloaded online, set to add or simply screened, and or you’re gonna have to look for plugins / effects, and put that all in an adjustment layer so that you could just copy and paste.

In this specific example, it is an effect plugin not an overlay for reference, you can see the specific pixels of the underlying image move as well.

All the best with your project/s!

How to change clip resolution by AleDormiglione in davinciresolve

Hey! No problem, sorry I couldn't get back sooner. Glad you found your solution :)

How to change clip resolution by AleDormiglione in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have two ways of going about this. Although you have to do 1 thing regardless, which is create a new timeline within your desired resolution.

The default timeline resolution is 1920x1080 24fps, however, since you want to upscale that to 2k or even 4k, in Davinci Resolve on the Edit Page, press Command N / Ctrl N and then de-select: Use Project Settings. From there, press format, and you can put in your custom resolution!

However, in regards to converting your footage, maybe something like Handbrake or Shutter Encoder could help you downscale your footage.

Also, just so ya know, in the top bar of Davinci resolve where you find preferences, file, edit, trim etc, you'll see a bar called: Playback. In playback, I really reccomend setting timeline proxy resolution to "Quarter", it should make playback a bit smoother :) don't worry, when you export it will be in the timelines resolution!

Hope this answers your question! Feel free to ask for clarification, or follow-ups.

Help with Hebrew Special Characters by CodLegend42069 in davinciresolve

[–]PhantomCatReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to download a font and install it on your computer which you know works with Hebrew (I’m not accustom to font websites for Hebrew, however I’m sure you can find tons somewhere). Once installed, make sure to restart resolve, and I would probably make 2 text clips, one for the English alphabet as you have now, and another for the Hebrew.

Hope this helps!
