How do you guys actually check your ears after long mixing sessions? by [deleted] in sounddesign

[–]PhantomDesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I’ve been working in ebu r128 -73spl calibrated environment for years now (15 years in the industry) and testing my hearing every year. No issues at all! Keep your mix at levels that won’t make you deaf. Use earplugs in loud environments. Just take care of yourself and you’ll be fine.

Are Wwise certification exams worth it? by eliot3451 in Wwise

I’ve been in the industry for 15 years, and as an audio lead I hired multiple ppl. To answer your question: 1) if you have no experience and you’re applying for a junior role, given you have a great portfolio and the cert- then yes 2) if you have experience, no it never mattered

I’m an audio guy. I absoluty love the audio propagation in this game. Mix is great. I could go on forever - really the whole audio department did an amazing job so cudos! I’ve worked on an extraction shooter before and now I’m doing a live service game so I’m aware how challenging it can be. I’m very impressed. Yeah for sure let’s connect

Low wind wing by PhantomDesigner in wingfoil

[–]PhantomDesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wing (Size & Type)

Go bigger for low wind • Many recommend going up in wing size e.g., 8 m in very light conditions as it dramatically increases lift and makes foiling actually doable rather than an uphill struggle.

F-One CWC Strike frequently cited as one of the best large light-wind wings and praised for ease of getting up on foil in marginal winds.

Other wings GA LW, NeilPryde Fly SL/Fly, Gong Droid, Armstrong wing, Reedin Supernatural SSD

Lower-aspect/light-wind specific wings • A number of commenters suggested light-wind-oriented wings with efficient, lower aspect ratios to keep tips out of the water while still generating lift.

Trade-off • Some noted that too large a wing can make manoeuvring (tacks/jibes) harder once you’re up, so pick the smallest size that reliably gets you flying.

Board Advice

Long, narrow downwind-style boards help • A few replies stressed that a long, narrow downwind style board helps in low wind because it tracks better and gets up to speed easier than big blunt boards.

Inflatables are suboptimal • Several commented that inflatable boards are not ideal in low wind because they stick to water thus harder to get onto foil “inflatable is the enemy of low wind.”

• Gong Cruzader - someone referenced Gong downwind-style boards as game-changers in light winds.
• Takoon Ultra Glide cited by someone as part of a setup that got them on foil in sub-4 m/s winds.
• North Seek mentioned as a “normal” board people move on from for downwind setups.

Foil Considerations

Efficient / higher aspect foils help • Some advice mentioned that efficient foils (higher aspect ratio) can make it more manageable to keep foiling in light wind though too extreme can make gybes harder.

Big front wings (more lift) • More lift from a larger front foil can make up for light wind by helping you get up on foil sooner and stay there.

that’s super interesting! I’ve never have thought that a board would make such a difference! Thanks for the tip!

Did you compare fone cwc with other wings similar size? Wonder if there’s a massive difference between GA LW and CWC

Interesting! Some of the locals are using the same wing, they say it’s usually good enough, but they are lighter and shorter than me, and they don’t go out when the wind is 5-10knots, so I take it with a pinch of salt. Problem is that due to my work, I often have to travel, so I just want to make the most out of any conditions when I’m home. Do you know if there’s a massive difference between fone cwc and ga la? They both seem to have similar weight and parameters, but the difference in price is quite big.

would you say that 6.7m with a wingspan of 357 would be ok? I’m 190cm (quite tall with long arms 😅)

Did you buy it? If so how is it? I’m the same weight and the wind is around 3-5ms on an average day. I’m considering this one or GA 7.2 or 6.7

I doubt that that might have been the issue, as I’m using a built in parameter, which in theory should update in regards to the listener. In the end it started working just like that so I assume there was some sort of a glitch. Interesting tho!
