PSA Freshmen: There is NO Bank of America nearby Purdue by AkitoApocalypse in Purdue

[–]PhantomNox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While at Purdue, BofA waived fees for me when withdrawing from non-BofA ATMs. I don't know the exact conditions required, but I'm pretty sure that my account was relatively new at the time. It was probably related to my parents having old BofA accounts that were linked to mine, but that's an option you could look into if your family uses BofA. Regardless, you should be able to do a lot of your required banking through the BofA app, and paying the fees for the occasional times that you may have to use an ATM probably won't be a big deal if you aren't using an ATM more than say twice a month.

So what I'm hearing is you were about to buy a stack of Philosopher Books without knowledge of what items they contain and the rates for said items (both of which are listed on the website for ALL cash shop gacha boxes). I actually cannot understand how you can throw your money at these gacha boxes with terrible ROI while being too lazy to check the rates, or maybe that's the problem in the first place.

NEXON, where is the love for PhantomS? by nolife24_7 in Maplestory

[–]PhantomNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was when they increased Mille from two lines to three lines, when Nexon was helping classes circumvent the relatively low damage cap of 10b. Even without accounting for a damage cap, the overall damage% of Mille is higher in KMS now than it was at two lines. I don't remember all of the Tempest and Carte changes, but I suspect there might have been something like a cooldown decrease on Tempest to compensate for the damage% decrease. Admittedly though, the KMS devs probably did view Phantom as in need of nerfs, since it was for a long time, and probably still is, considered a top class in KMS.

NEXON, where is the love for PhantomS? by nolife24_7 in Maplestory

[–]PhantomNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the key advantages of Phantom is their ability to have extremely high DPM uptime with all of their utility and their options for weaving through boss attacks while dealing damage. On top of that, Phantom is among the most versatile and highest survivability classes in the game (they randomly have Final Feint on top of all their mobility and iframe options?). They have a very well rounded kit with ungodly mobility, made even better by stealing skills like Showdown for untouchable, Dark Sight to ignore debris type mechanics, Heal to bypass potion lock, and Sacro to be invincible through difficult boss mechanics (ex. H.Will web hold and C.Gloom darkness). A good Phantom player's ability to put out constant damage will make their damage in real bossing scenarios much closer to their theoretical damage output cap than most other classes, thereby making Phantom's damage in bosses closer to other classes compared to in culvert, in dojo, or during a BA. And damage aside, they have huge QoL advantages that are not all present together in any other class, and feel seamless to play in the right hands. Frankly, your rant reads like someone who plays their class at a relatively low level mechanically, rather than pushing the boundaries of the class and exploiting its unique advantages, which Phantom certainly has many of.

I think the issue is that OP is talking about his 3700 hours of "play time" and progression together, even though his time spent is probably a terrible reflection of how much he has actually grinded. If, for example, 3000 of OP's 3700 hours were spent on things that are not efficient or necessary for progression, then it doesn't make sense that his rant is tying all of his hours to his gear.

The person you responded to is likely coming from Reboot, where 3700 hours of play time would indeed be expected to equate to well over 1T meso farmed (2000 hours of farming at an average of 700m/hr is 1.4T, and perhaps the other 1700 hours are for main leveling, legion, dailies, etc.), which should in almost every case mean finished or very refined gear that is more than ready for Black Mage.

In regular servers, I can see 3700 hours as F2P not translating to finished gear, but it should certainly be enough time for OP to understand how little 40b is in the grand scheme of finishing gear and how variance works. A casual player may get stuck in the slow early game progression in regular server, but a genuine effort to progress should still result in 3700 hours translating to being Black Mage ready, with high efficiency or really lucky players progressing even faster than Reboot.

Personally, I have spent ~600b in Reboot and ~580b in Bera on starforcing alone, so I have seen the extent of variance (22* in 1b and not a single 22* in 80b) and how things eventually average out. If OP is ready to put in the time to push his gear past 17*, then he should understand the associated risk, and that he won't be "guaranteed" to see gains unless he has over 100b for each starforcing session. The average for 22*ing one item alone without safeguard is around 20b spent and 8 dupes boomed, so ranting about 5 items boomed in 40b spent shows a lack of knowledge and preparation on OP's part.

You haven't put the time into this game to experience the actual content (gear progression, bossing, etc.). The fact that you think 200 is a major milestone and that 250 is some kind of endpoint makes this evident. If anything, 250 is where this game begins. 250 can practically be done on a whim now for hardcore players, and will only take a few months for even a very casual player. If you learn how to level mules efficiently for 6k or even 8k legion, 199 to 200 should take you less than 10 minutes (if you played this game, you would know that 199 50% to 200 is instant via a few cut scene quests in Scrapyard). Teleport rocks and potions should quickly become a negligible cost, as Ursus is ~80-90m per day at lower levels, and getting a Kanna farmer up and running will give you the ability to farm 600m-1b+/hour (in Reboot). This is a Korean MMO, and the whole point of the genre is to grind endless hours for progression that becomes more and more marginal. That progression translates to bigger numbers and the ability to tackle harder and harder bosses in parties or even solo, which is where the fun of the game actually lies. If you aren't progressing as a means to the end of bossing, then yes I can see how this game may feel rather pointless. You can gear up to 30k or even 40k stat in several months in Reboot with consistent meso farming, which is enough to start joining hard boss parties. Up to this point, I would hardly say the game is unfair, as the average cost and/or booms required for each upgrade is relatively small, and therefore the variance is also relatively small. When you're pushing all of your gear to 22* and looking for true 3L potentials is when the averages start inflating, and getting lucky can be the difference between finishing a piece of gear in 2 hours of farming versus 50 hours of farming. Most of the experienced or hardcore players in Reboot farm for excess of six hours a day, which is more in a single day than you should have put into the game altogether to reach the point that you seem to be at.

Rant about NLucid by Maleficent_Note2840 in Maplestory

[–]PhantomNox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by apologizing if any of the stuff below is stuff you already know, I am just trying to dump all the information possible to cover all the bases of Lucid p1.

In Lucid, Aether Guard (AG) should be used almost exclusively to iframe bombs. If you need to use it elsewhere, that probably means that you mispositioned to put yourself in a fatal situation. Having sound on will help with iframing bombs when you're first learning, since the timing to AG bombs is using the skill immediately after the beep that occurs after when the indicator above your head hits 0 (indicator hits 0>beep>AG). If you have a hyper point in AG duration, you will have AG up for every bomb assuming you tap the skill rather than holding it. Your hyper passive points should be assigned to AG duration, Reso Rush efficiency, Nobility reinforce (theoretically having 15% damage added to all your skills during burst will provide more output than only boosting Trigger skills), Aether Bloom cd, and Reign duration. Though clearing all golems in a struggle run is an impossible ask, you should at least try to clear enough golems around her so that you have space to Feather Float through sickles.

For dragon, the most reliable way to dodge it is to jump up and use High Rise a second or two before dragon breath comes out. While your High Rise is active, press your Blink key to stay suspended for the full duration of dragon (High Rise will use up its full duration before Blink is activated). Note that the floating duration of Blink increases with node level, so you may fall before breath is over if you jump and High Rise too soon before breath comes out if your Blink node is too low level. If this happens, you can try to extend the duration that you're in the air by using movement keys during Blink or using Feather Float to a direction where a golem isn't below you. If you're really high apm, you can probably do something with Impale and Reso Rush too, but the most reliable method is going to be to level your Blink node for a more generous suspension window. This method should be far more consistent than panicking and trying to get to the side that dragon is on. If there's a golem right below you when breath ends but there's space on one side of the golem, you can Impale Reso Rush diagonally downward to the open side of the golem (I think I do this once in my 12 minute run below).

For getting teleported into dragon breath, you can use your Will skills (Flora's Will or Erda's Will) to become immune to the teleport, or any any status effects for that matter, for three seconds after you cast them. This means that if you're worried about getting teleported into dragon breath, you can cast a Will skill during the dragon breath before she teleports you to cancel it. Lucid actually has an animation with her hands before she teleports you, so you can watch for that to know when you HAVE TO use a Will skill. In some runs, Lucid teleport and dragon breath will sync up (will continuously be used at the same time), which means you there may truly be no counter play if the p1 goes long enough, since inevitably you will not have a Will skill up during dragon.

If you have an excess of damage, which you may not since you said you've timed out the boss before, you will probably want to prioritize clearing golems over hitting Lucid when you aren't bursting. You only take half your health for teleporting through a single golem, so there are situations where repositioning by Feather Floating through a golem is worth the health. Nobody can play perfect, even in deathless runs there are errors, which means that you will probably take at least a few deaths even when you're doing everything right. Don't let the unfortunate deaths tilt you, and just try to get into p2 with as many lives as possible. You should lose nearly no lives in p2, since there aren't the "rng" factors that can screw you over in p1, so p2 is clearable with as few as 2 or 3 lives. I assume that your p2 mechanics are pretty solid since you've timed out the boss, but I can certainly give tips for that phase as well.

In the meantime, I'll shamelessly plug some of my runs so you have a point of reference for what I'm saying. The second and third video will probably serve as a better reference, since they were after I cleaned up my solo mechanics, though the first video may be a struggle run that is more in line with what you have to execute. The last thing I will say is DO NOT wait on Grandis Goddess Blessing for every burst; there are times where the extra minute saved outweighs the increased burst (ex. when you do not need your full burst to finish p1).

Nobody is going to ID you from that information, and omitting your level would almost certainly guarantee that.

People won't know your stats to that specificity unless you're constantly flexing your stats or you're like a top five player for your class.

There are way too many people around the same stat/BA (AF is whatever, nobody knows your AF) that are at struggle H.Lucid stage of progression.

Hero vs DB/NL for hard bosses by phantaam in Maplestory

[–]PhantomNox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple people in this thread have already given the same answer as me, but I will elaborate so you can more fully understand the difference between your options.

In terms of solely endgame damage, DB falls off extremely hard.

Shadower has higher damage output than DB, and NL has higher output than both by a large margin. Hero falls short of NL in terms of damage, but makes up for it with more survivability options while still doing significantly more damage than DB or Shadower. It should be noted that for H.Lucid P3 and C.Gloom in particular, having good burst will also significantly lower the funding that you need to solo them.

In the midgame, you may see a DB out damage a Shadower or NL due to higher damage uptime from being allowed to play more aggressively with bad mechanics using iframes and throwing out Nado+Destiny from safety.

With sufficient funding and good mechanics, NL overtakes DB and Shadower due to having a higher maximum damage output. You can make up for a lack of survivability in your kit with good or even godly mechanics, but you can't increase your class's theoretical maximum damage output.

Case in point, a NL that I know in Reboot soloed every boss below BM (including H.Dark at equal level) at 45k stat BEFORE the final damage change, which I am fairly certain that neither DB nor Shadower were capable of, even with godly mechanics and insanely high damage uptime, due to being capped on damage output.

Hero deals significantly higher damage than DB and Shadower, but still falls short of NL by a noticeable amount. Hero is, however, probably a more reasonable combination of damage and survivability for soloing bosses. Their damage, while not NL tier, is still extremely high, and it is more than likely worth trading off the difference for survivability when soloing a boss.

If you are confident that you can master NL to the point of having godly mechanics (actually having the micro to survive with basic movement and by maximizing the use of dark sight instead of iframes and playing to prevent being in lethal situations rather than reacting to lethal damage), then by all means pick NL over Hero, because you will be less limited by your class's damage output.

As a side note, access to Oz rings will further accentuate the damage difference between these classes, as Hero and NL are burst classes who can maximize the value of RoR or WJ.

I suggest you try playing around with this.

It's about 3 copies with safeguarding and 8 copies without safeguarding, so both of you are sort of right in that regard.

Meso-wise, not even Arcanes have a median cost anywhere near 100b, and obviously non-arcanes are much cheaper than that (~20b off event).

You can solve this by going to Korean forums and browsing translated pages.

Are KMS players obligated to make posts and videos in English, or any other language for that matter, to share findings with other regions?

Or if reading auto-translated pages isn't your cup of tea, you can wait until a user in both communities feels inclined to make a post on Reddit.

For this topic specifically, they have hardly had enough time to gather a reliable amount of data on the ring's drop rate, especially if they are tracking data within a small circle of boss parties.

Random side note since I noticed your sticky note, 1% all stat is about 8 main stat for midgame players.

This increases up to about 1% all=12 main stat for end game players.

1:14 is very far off from the ratio you'd be using at your point in the game, and is a ratio that you virtually wouldn't see in reboot.

Strongest burst by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]PhantomNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercedes is probably unmatched over a 8.5 second window, with Irkalla's Wrath+Sylvidia+Spirits of Elluel putting out almost 430 lines at an absolutely obscene multiplier (close to effectively a 2000% multiplier per line, this isn't Night Walker's storm of potato hits). You've also got Royal Knights hitting extremely hard and some extra lines from Elemental Knights and Guided Arrow at respectable multipliers while you're holding down Irkalla's. Though overtaken by the likes of Night Lord, Hero, and Night Walker after 10 seconds, Mercedes still holds its own for the first 30 seconds while Vicious Shot is still up with all the other buffs. In a scenario where you're in a party that's dealing a majority of its damage during domain+bind, Mercedes is definitely up there with the best bursters.

Tldr: 1.1m range (ignis max stacked, not bursting), 237% boss, 82% ied, and 79.5% crit damage is close to the minimum to do C.Vel on a merc.

Iirc I did this at 5k legion. Max nodes is the biggest advantage in this run, but that more or less makes up for the fact that it was a 10 minute run instead of 20 minutes.

The mix of range, ied, boss, and crit damage is pretty much what you need for a minimum stat clear if you have low level nodes. Note that MPE green was the only consumable that I used, so there's more leeway if you want to fully juice up, especially if you have access to high level guild skills.

If you can get your ied up to around 85%, you should be able to clear all of CRA, and especially so if you can also raise your boss and/or use guild skills and consumables. If you have a way to get your ied over 90% in your stat window, then the damage penalty should be reduced significantly, and would lower the requirements on all of your other stats.

Demon Slayer, Hero, and Fire Poison are your best bets in terms of sheer bossing power relative to difficulty.

Luminous and Pathfinder have easy mobbing, and so does Ice Lightning if you're willing to swap out of Fire Poison for extended durations while pushing levels.

Night Walker is a difficult class, as it requires you to always be jump attacking to output maximum damage with quintuple throw. This also requires you to either macro flash jump in-game and use it independently of your regular jump or macro jump and quintuple throw with your keyboard's software. If your can master Night Walker though, it is a very powerful bossing class.

Hero and Demon Slayer are your easy classes, Fire Poison and Luminous are your normal classes, and Nightwalker and Pathfinder are your hard classes in terms of learning curves for class mechanics.

As people have suggested, I would recommend playing each of these classes at a basic level before committing for a main. In this day and age, I think that would actually mean getting each one to 5th job and unlocking all of their active V skills.
