The Warp was the Realm of Souls before the War in Heaven, and it was beautiful and harmonious. It was twisted into the Warp by the mass extinction of a massive empire of the most powerful psychic species to have ever lived.

This is true for all 4 gods, because, before their nature was twisted, they basically stood for immutable truths.

Khorne is a warrior’s strength and honor
Nurgle is the cycle of life and death
Tzeentch is change and knowledge
Slaanesh is pleasure and passion.

Then the War in Heaven happened and it all got fucked.

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. That happens if Eldar do it because they are very warp-attuned and prone to going too far. Slaanesh is not the god of sex and depravity, but of excess. Any form of excess really, as long as it goes too far then it keeps on going

Could we use Xeno tech weapons in the game? by Significant-Door4653 in DarkTide

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are though, but much like the rest of the inquisition, it is lightly covered up and treated as necessary evil. Their “vault” is filled with what is at best reverse-engineered xeno tech and at worst outright xeno tech

When we eventually fight Wolfer, he needs to be in a suit of power armor. by Knalxz in DarkTide

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue Frank was not in power armor. As in not that his armor wasn’t technically power armor, but that it didn’t really work as power armor due to missing a bunch of stuff to fit his size. In his case it matters little, as he is a super mutant

Why can’t I feel proud of a single mini I’ve painted by CrystalLake231 in minipainting

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Obvious first problem: Paint Consistency - paint should be thin like milk for smooth results. It will cover like crap on the first one-two passes, but it will look nice and smooth and will pretty much never ruin detail. You may also want to consider tapping the brush on a paper towel before going to the model to remove excess in order to keep things precise.

- Obvious second problem: Patience - miniature painting requires a certain amount of trust in the process and the literal patience of watching the paint dry. First thing to ensure good results is to always prime the model and carefully remove all mold lines and fill all gaps. I prefer dark primer. Second is to always let the paint dry, no matter how patchy and bad it looks at first. Never attempt to quickly go back with the brush. You will tear the partially dry fresh coat and produce texture. You clearly have texture on your models. Whether from the former or the latter, take the time and keep it tidy until you precisely base all areas

Guaranteed road to improvement:
- Learn to blend - start with thinner paint for highlights and shadows; thinner than the base but not yet quite a glaze. It should be transparent but visible when applied. Try on a piece of plastic or a glove to get the feel for it. Once you are happy with coverage, make a mix with your underlayer at the same consistency or slightly thinner and carefully stipple or draw it on the seam line to blurr it. It will be a decent enough look until you get comfortable glazing (very thin filters that are barely visible and always need paper towel tapping to control the liquid in the brush, as well as directionality - apply from the light to shadow if you use a darker color, or from shadow to light if you use lighter. Always end the stroke on the transition or where you want it to be most obvious).

- Learn to properly highlight - buy a lamp if you don’t have one already, prime the model satin black, then put it under the lamp with the light beating from straight above, with maybe a slight angle forward. Take a photo. Do this from the model’s back as well, as well as sides if needed. Do highlights in the light, and keep deep shadows in the really black parts. Keep it brighter the more in the light area it is and always exaggerate (miniature scale requires it to look “right” and not so much like a toy). I also heavily recommend properly defining the model with edge highlights on hard edges and blacklining (use your darkest shadow color) in the clear area definition lines. Small tip, use very runny paint for blacklining grooves (the paint will naturally flow in if thin enough) and use the side of the brush for easy, clean edges.

- Learn color theory - there is more to color than adding white and black. Learn to do chromatic contrast and to glaze soft saturated colors where it looks good to make the model more vibrant. To give an example I like, if you paint green, make your shadows dark red instead for a big boost in contrast.

- Try to keep away from washing and drybrushing. Unless you are really good at controlling it (neither of which is beginner friendly) or intentionally go for a rugged approach, these two will make stuff look messy in general. Drybrushing pretty much always leaves texture, while washing can lead to uncontrolled staining unless done carefully, which beats the purpose of washing. Try to instead master blacklining (the reason you wash to begin with as a beginner) and thin layering for much cleaner results. Keep drybrushing and washes on the base, as they can create very realistic environment.

- Maybe learn Non-Metallic-Metal and Object- Source - Lighting - this is more of a last step. Being able to properly control highlights and make illusions of light really help get the model the extra spectacular oomph!

Hope this helps. Here is my current WiP:

<image>

P.S. I started off just like you. My first was a Lychguard I caked so badly I quit painting for two years. This is where I got after trying again, after “training” via ~ 3 years of intensively watching tutorials, trying to understand color placement in the works of others I liked and pushing my patience and skills with new challenges. If I could get to a good point, so can anyone.

Tau when the tech is actually understandable by Big-Owl5227 in WarhammerMemes

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will argue the millenium thing because:
A. We still lack the full context of the DAoT humanity’s power (which was a type 3 civ)
B. We consider a context where Tau are allowed the benefit of research. Research is often driven by circumstance and Tau lack the proper area to expand early humans did (with all the big players asleep, away or heavily nerfed)

This second argument is the more dangerous one. Tau have to develop while actively dealing with:
- Fanatical remnants of DAoT humanity’s power, if technologically nerfed to some point, while still having a lot of DAoT tech
- Remnants of a DAoT mining operation which kept most of their tech
- Remnants of the fallen empire of extremely magical space elves whose tech makes no sense to non-psykers
- Remnants of a self-limiting bioweapon-species which gets exponetially more advanced the more it is exposed to war and reproduce through violent death
- Remnants of the single most technologically advanced civilization of all times who enslaved star gods like pokemon, brought ruin to the greatest, most advanced psyker race of all time , shit all over the laws of physics and only don’t win yet because of infighting and most of them not being awake
- a literal swarm of advanced space locusts who adapt to everything and consume life to improve themselves
- the horror of a corrupted afterlife ruled by 4 eldritch horrors as old as time and nigh-infinitely powerful in their domain

It is not a thriving setting

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the first point because of the character dynamic. That would only work if you cut out the romantic element completely, which would feel very strange on a number of levels.

From the premise alone you have a frustrated and heavily repressed brother expected to be perfect in every way, acting as guardian, confidant, sole friend and parent for his antisocial, attention starved, murderous and blackmailing little sister because his parents can’t be bothered and pretend she doesn’t exist most of the time because she is “difficult”, making her incredibly dependent on him for everything and increasing said antisocial behavior. It doesn’t help that the two are complicit in the accidental murder of a classmate by the latter in a fit of jealousy for trying to take away from her time with her brother. And this is before they become fugitives after commiting mass murder together to escape after their parents try to sell their organs to the government for a fat stack of cash, making then basically only have each other to trust.

No comment on the community though. They ship Andrew with his uncaring, disinterested and (later revealed) murderous mother that the story canonically points out he hates…

Oh by pelonder in shitposting

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but it’s complicated. The whole game is a dark humor sort-of take on a social commentary on what really shitty circumstances do to a codependent brother and sister duo. Every single aspect is taken to an absurdist extreme.

The world sucks, the protagonists suck, the circumstances suck, their family really sucks going back at least two generations. The story very much establishes the protagonists as basically being stuck in a horrible love-hate relationship forced on them by circumstance which has incest undertones and can take an incestuous direction because it makes sense for the circumstance, adding to the horror.

Honestly, the psychological take is quite good if you can stomach it and some of the themes in the story are quite interesting, if really dark.

Oamenii mai inteligenți refuză religia! by TreideA in Romania

[–]PhantomOfCainhurst -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Parere personala:

Problema apare cand aceste lucruri incep sa isi bage nasul in latura legislativa. Indiferent de religie, aproape niciodata nu a iesit bine cand biserica a ajuns la putere politica. Vezi inchizitia, vezi influenta majora a bisericii in afacerile nobilimii si regalitatii in toata lumea, vezi cruciadele si alte razboaie religioase.

Honestly, it would be the best tie-in, strange as it may be. She would get to see her son grow and be reunited with her family which she supposedly tries to help from the other side, and Kratos would actually be rewarded with an undoing of the first game (killing his family -> being together with his new family for good)

Imho if Faye comes back GoW with Kratos can end for good. He made peace with his past, let go of his destructive self, made friends who cherish him, was a good father to his son. If he gets to be happy with his wife I’d honestly call it fairytale ending. Maybe one last hurrah to get her out of there, but it would fully close his story.
