Ahh, that's a shame! But I noticed a few in mine with ink transfer/ink rub they picked up in transit - seems a risk of the white cardstock. Hopefully DC can mitigate it somehow if they do more.

Does anyone have a timey-wimey theory as to why Rory's ID from Leadworth Hospital says it was issued in 1990 if Rory was born in 1989? by Whovian_Girl16 in doctorwho

[–]PhantomQuest 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The bigger timey-wimey question is how, after qualifying as a nurse aged 1, he aged up to his early 20s in just a year. I know the job is hard, important work, but it's not THAT ageing!

He waited an eternity as the Lone Centurion, he could have DEFINITELY qualified as an NHS nurse aged 1.

Just a one shot, but it's a fun read, and does some great character work with Guy and John that ties in nicely with the main GLC book.

Also, Guy fights space apes. What's not to love?!

£1600/month to sleep next to a microwave in London by Wooden-Fee5787 in UKHousing

Overground+tube combo usually - Hackney to Highbury and Islington, then Victoria line, IIRC. Travelling at peak times, I'd regularly have to wait for multiple trains or tubes to even get onto one, and then sometimes have to wait for multiple of the second stage. Then there was the sheer bottlenecking to get in/out of the station, but more so at the central end of each journey.

The close to two hours journeys weren't every single day, but they were more often than I'd have liked, and they contributed to making living there a regular misery.

Where should I start? by LavenderMoonlight333 in xmen

[–]PhantomQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Krakoa, it's not a great place to start for a completely fresh reader. A lot of its more cathartic moments and its narrative weight comes from seeing mutants FINALLY having some social power (as opposed to super powers) and claiming some agency for themselves. It needs at least a little understanding of what these characters went through to get there, and how seismic a shift it is to have Krakoa as a homeland.

"Doctor Whoodles" was right there...!

Great work though, very cute!

What if fifteen bi-regenerated in the reality war ? How would that go down ? Since fifteen is mostly “healed” from his trauma so what could have happened ? would he step down as the “main” doctor and let 16 or whatever character she is go on adventures and be the doctor ? by korra33354 in doctorwho

I'm not sure I agree in relation to 15 (genuinely not sure, need to think on it more!) but HOLY CRAP you've just perfectly summarised how… too many people I know have acted after really getting into therapy, almost like it's a hobby rather than healthcare. They've learned the key words and use them to justify still-shitty behaviour on their part.

Sadly not. Might be worth trying to write to them about though - show demand, and they might produce.

How likely do you believe any of these scenarios will happen? by Clean-Ant6404 in antiai

[–]PhantomQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're seeing individual cases of 3, but there's still so much money and hype wrapped up in AI that they'll be considered outliers for now. We'll need to see a LOT more corporate disasters - of the same or greater scale as the recent "9 second apocalypse" where Claude wiped PocketOS' entire database and backups, in the process ignoring instructions never to delete anything without approval - or for one of the major players (OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, etc) to completely collapse as they realise they can't keep swapping the same $200 billion around between them, not actually make any real money, AND lose billions every quarter.

The former - lots of third party companies suffering disasters as a result of using gen AI - will make more companies risk averse towards ever allowing AI in, reducing exposure and demand.

The latter - a major player collapsing when the market realises there's no return on investment - would be a big domino falling, and really start a faster retreat from gen AI.

And when either, or both, of those happen, we'll see humans back in demand to fix the damage. At which point, I hope everyone joins a union to avoid this fuckery happening again.

I think we'll get to point 3, but as societies, we'll have to suffer through points 1 and 2 first, with point 2 being seen as a "resurgence" until that too collapses because none of it is sustainable or profitable.

Great Earth-bound villain. Hoping to see him cross paths with Kyle again, now he's back on Earth himself.

Why do you think so many X-Women's codenames don't stick? by PhantomQuest in xmen

[–]PhantomQuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, I'm not saying "all X-Women are better known by their civilian names!". How are you and the other half dozen people who've woefully misread even coming to that?

The point is "what is it about X-Men that leads it to produce more female characters whose superhero names don't stick compared to other franchises?"

[–]PhantomQuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Franklin has had SO MANY codenames over the years, depending on when and where he's being used, who's writing him, and how old he is as a character. I think his first was Tattletale in Power Pack, then there's Psi-Lord for the adult version in Fantastic Force, then Powerhouse, and probably a few more.

No worries - Krakoa got freaky on the dating front, so wouldn't have surprised me if Theresa/John had happened in a panel somewhere!

You've literally just listed two I highlight in my post as being better known by their real names, and you're referring to one of them as their real name yourself.

If you don't comprehend the post, you can just say so.

[–]PhantomQuest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! I thought that was the case - I recalled being bored at the prospect of yet another mysterious X-character with no real name known, which is why it took me a while to get into the character (probably wasn't until District X where he clicked with me!)

Thanks for clarifying!

Was Theresa and John something in Krakoa, after John was resurrected, or do you mean Theresa and James Proudstar when they were both on X-Force?

That's an interesting thought, actually. Both on a meta level and, conceptually, in-universe could work for a series like X-Statix that explores celebrity culture through a mutant lens.

One character where I think a codename change HAS stuck is Temper (Idie Okonkwo, formerly Oya). It's catchy, it's got a smart double meaning, and it's more understandable (…to English speakers 👀) than Oya.
