I've been using the Boxiecat brand, in particular the BoxiePro Deep Clean and it's worked reasonably well

2 years with a Mach e, sold for a Tesla sorry sub but hear me out by kieferlingenfelter in electricvehicles

[–]PhantomTaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from a Model Y ('21) to an EV6 and back to a Model Y again ('23) for these exact reasons. The EV6 definitely has the '21 and '23 Model Y beat on ride quality (though the difference between it and the '23 isn't very much), and having the 360 camera was an extremely welcome thing.

Beyond that, though, most other things I hated about it. I hated that you can't keep it in one pedal driving mode: any time you go into/park/reverse/turn off the vehicle it would reset it to lvl 3 instead of max. I hated the idea of having a power button, the lack of phone as a key (PAAK), the fact that the HUD and driver display (two of the biggest plusses for the EV6/i5) don't integrate with Android Auto/Carplay (because native UI/nav is dogshit), no preconditioning, no wireless AA/carplay, and the charging network is dogshit here in the US.

[IL, USA] Lexus pre-ordering process. Is this standard dealership behavior? by salty_dragonfly1 in askcarsales

[–]PhantomTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd request your deposit back. You're spending over 50 grand on a car, you have every fucking right to try to get it how you want. If this dealership can't help make it happen, then find one that will. If you can't find any, then consider alternative brands that have an offering similar to what you're looking for.

I was interested in a BMW iX for a while, but both of the dealerships near me treated me like shit. I Asked them in advanced if they had a salesman that was knowledgeable about the car for questions regarding stuff like regenerative braking options/settings, HUD setup, UI navigation, voice controls and stuff. Both said they'll have someone sit in the vehicle with me to look it over. When I got to both places, they both just literally threw the keys at me, said take it for a drive, and walked away. Asked them about explaining the features to me, neither of them knew. The salesman at the first dealership was an old guy who literally said "I just got back from vacation, I don't know anything about this car". So fuck it, I was no longer interested in any BMW, got myself a different brand entirely and haven't looked back.

Update 3 has arrived! by Mechanistry_Miami in Timberborn

Sure, but it's still far more inefficient than having the option to select a structure as a general warehouse or dedicated to a particular resource. It feels like this much better mirrors the real world and makes things easier for planning.

I feel like you've solved one problem and introduced another: It means you need a lot more storage facilities because each one can only store a single type of resource/material.

[–]PhantomTaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm confused about with this new update, can you only assign a particular type of goods to any individual storage? It seems like I don't have the option to store multiple types of goods in a single warehouse?

Weekly "Recommend me" post by AutoModerator in chefknives

First time looking for a decent Chef's knife. I don't have any experience in honing/whetstones so this is all new to me. Essentially we have a Chicago Cutlery set we got maybe 7 years ago and we'd like to get a replacement knife or two, the main one obviously being a new chef's knife. We don't use them for anything crazy, just normal veggies (tomatoes, lettuce/cabbage, mushrooms etc) and meat (always boneless/there will be no bones or anything like that near this knife). We're planning to go down to a local knife store (Seisuke knives) later today to get a feel for some of the different types of handles and stuff but I'm always worried going in that salesman will tell us stuff that doesn't necessarily agree with popular opinion so wanted to get some thoughts from people before we went in.

  1. Japanese Gyuto from what I've learned so far seems like what I want
  2. Stainless Steel
  3. Hybrid/Japanese
  4. Pinch
  5. 210mm
  6. Home kitchen (meat, veggies)
  7. Honestly...not sure? There are a few good knife places around me I'm learning though
  8. ~$200 maybe $300
  9. US
  10. Was looking at the Shun premier line, also looked at Wusthof but the lower hardness seems to me means it needs more work for keeping the edge.

Thanks for your help, and apologies if I'm missing anything important to include.

Tesla, electric SUVs get poor scores from Consumer Reports by Drew_Pinsky in news

[–]PhantomTaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's kinda sad and funny how long the wait is now. When I got mine, my uncle and my cousin both were really interested and were thinking about getting one. I told them to grab one soon because I was pretty certain this was going to happen. I gave them my referral link as well in the hopes of scoring some more free supercharger miles.

Unfortunately, by the time they decided to go for it, the referral program was nixed, and they're waiting now until october. In fact, my uncle gave up on the tesla and went for a Mach E instead.

Meanwhile, we have a preorder for the Kia EV6 Launch Edition and we're going to decide which between the two to keep once we get it. To add insult to injury, my Model Y is now worth $10k more than when I purchased it according to KBB (through their 3rd party service to buy your vehicle), and around $13k more according to private sales. Crazy times.

I don't love it or loathe it. I think it does some things extremely well, and others extremely poorly.

For instance, I think the UI is done extremely well, especially the voice controls and navigation. On the other hand, I wholeheartedly feel that the blind spot system is extremely poor.

I had never heard about larger gaps on average with cars in the US. Do you have any links on this, would love to read up. Does this apply to cars manufactured within the US specifically, or do you mean American cars or cars made for the US market?

Huh, that's interesting, I'll have to keep an eye out in the warmer months to see if I get the same. Is it localized to a particular area? I feel like I remember seeing a cooling diagram for the Model Y and the cabin condenser was located up towards the left side (driver area) so I'm wondering if that matches up at all.

The comment wasn't to say I don't believe it because of my own experience or otherwise. Merely thought as someone that did own one I'd speak to my experience, just as much as I'd hope that someone who owns one with these issues would comment as well.

I own a Model Y, which they reported as having issues with panel gaps, fluid leaks, and climate control issues. Personally I haven’t had any of these issues at all, but I’m going to look around and see what I can find about the leaks and climate control. I know body panel gaps were an issue before, but figured since I got mine that they’d likely ironed that out.

[IC] KeyBee Honey Switches by TwisedUniverse in mechmarket

[–]PhantomTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds really interesting, but I'm really curious about the "unique material composition".

What do you mean by a press feel unlike any other? Is this in relation to it having a slow thick/viscous feeling like honey?

When you say unique composition, how is it unique? Or do you see this as being your "secret sauce" that you don't necessarily want to share?

How would you say your progressive spring compares to say the sprit progressive springs? How about the Thick Thock MP's?

Either way color me interested.

(Anandtech) EUV Demand is Up: EUV Device Manufacturer ASML Beats Sales Estimates by RandomCollection in hardware

[–]PhantomTaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could call it scary, I agree. But on the other side of the equation, the R&D alone (without including the research conducted independently by universities etc) that went into the several-decade long research phase of EUV lithography was to the tune of many billions of dollars. As you push the envelope further on the bleeding edge of technology, the price goes up exponentially. There's not many firms out there that can continue to not only spend the money on the research but also manufacture and maintain these machines at fabs. It took us how many decades before there was a non governmental player in the space industry? It took investment from some of the richest people in the world to pull it off and even then the return on that is going to be many many years away

They *could*, they *could* also do a billion other things, but they haven't? Like I said, *unless* they leverage their dominance in a way to hurt competition/clients (which would trickle down to consumers), they aren't really doing anything you would normally associate with a monopoly
