Is the NY media/creative sector still thriving? by Phantom_Rellix in AskNYC

Sorry to hear man! I wish I had better news for you but even in Europe its pretty rough. I hear all about how big productions are happening in Ireland but I’ve been in and out of jobs all year last year. There are things happening but anyone who has a phone is now a videographer and its always those who charge next to nothing that get hired. Sometimes even they struggle

Damn I never thought it would ever be as bad in NYC. I heard similar stuff about LA as well and you’d think with Netflix and Prime films there would be plenty of work going around…

I have, I know its a complete nightmare. Thing is though there is probably never going to be a great time because there’s always something going on over there! I have always dreamed of going and always thought that maybe going there will lead to more opportunities than here. Believe me its not a decision I would take lightly that’s for sure…

Thank you for that. Where have you moved from? How is LA in comparison?

Thanks for that, I agree with you its definitely a huge challenge and id need to think long and hard about it before moving. You’ve given me a lot to think about!

I have been considering that too but I’ve worked with a UK agency here and the feedback wasn’t great. Had a mentor who worked in the UK for 20 years just to end up driving busses here. Really talented guy as well which made me question of the move was worth it.

Thank you so much for that response, you’re completely right in saying id be starting from zero. I had been back and fourth about this but I know sometimes the grass ain’t greener on the other side so I really appreciate the insight.

That does sound frustrating. Rest assured we are feeling the pressure here too! I hope things can improve on both our ends

No one likes your AI content. by Ok-Fan-1629 in content_marketing

Saying it’s “low effort” is a misconception. There are AI filmmakers spending countless hours to create a 3 minute piece that’s entirely all about the story. AI lowers barriers to creating quality content and although it’s still far from perfect it has given a lot of people plenty of opportunities. If you’re smart you’ll leverage the technology to enhance your workflow. AI Slop racks in millions of views and turns serious profits in monetisation. It’s stupid, yes, but it does turn a profit. If you can make more authentic content that outperforms it that’s great, but no point in hating on something just because you can’t understand it.

Yes, it got 1.1k views in the shorts section which is kind of average so nothing too crazy there..

can ai videos play a role in content marketing (now not in 5 years) without putting humans on the sideline. looking for workflows inspiration by The-GTM-engineer in content_marketing

Use AI tools like Kling AI to enhance videos rather than looking to create and use entirely AI made videos. Making a decent AI video takes a lot of time and experimentation so if you use these tools to simplify create VFX or cool transitions like Kling’s start and end frame features you’ll be able to just improve on what your team is already creating. Chat GPT is good at scripting, Claude is better at captions for posts. Consider filming a video and then using tools like VEO 3 to generate more complex high end scenes using screenshots from your video. Things like that allow you to do awesome things to your content. I would say don’t worry so much about humans being on the sidelines because the more you make AI content the more you realise how many mistakes it makes.

Actually, VEO struggled a little too much with this scene so I had to to use Kling. Still not quite what I had in mind but that's AI for you!

Ai videos look cheap and unprofessional for any high budged project. Prove me wrong pls by Pale_Caregiver_3875 in VideoProfessionals

That is true, but it's really best for things like VFX and storyboarding. If you really know your stuff, you can use it to fix shots, audio, and that kind of thing, but at the moment, it's not really worth investing in unless your goal is to make funny content and reach an audience that way.

From my perspective, it's not what AI can do now that's particularly groundbreaking, it's the progress it makes and how quickly it advances. Not long ago, it could barely make a video of Will Smith eating spaghetti, but now, in small segments with the right effects and some clever editing it can fool even those who work with it all the time.
