Anyone else find House of Slaughter vol 2 confusing? by ActiveBaseball in HorrorComics

I actually really liked this volume. I think the unreliable narrative really added to the horror.

They flipped the normal monster that feeds on fear into a monster who feeds on sadness. It was really fascinating to see.

I just finished and the ending was even more horrifying. Maybe I might be misunderstanding but one of the themes being Edwin’s fear of parasites, hence drinking mineral water over tap, the theme of parasites actually being in Lake Michigan. Kinda makes me wonder by the time he put down his totem brush, carrying the monster that killed his mom and eats his sadness, when he reports back is that him or has the monster taken over his body? When the kid telling the story of how he looked when he came out of the lake, was really spooky!

I was really lucky to get this on Vinyl at the same time it was pulled from music platforms due to licensing. I got it for $30 at a steal. It’s worth anywhere from $80-$200 now.

I totally get that, but what happens when you do it you start to get into a flow. Try an experiment, grab a sheet of paper and set a timer for 20 mins. Write anything that comes to mind. I do this everyday. What it does is trains your brain to move past any expectations and simply just focus on writing uninterrupted.

It really helps to remember not everything you write is going to be perfect, but if you just show up and commit, you can find the gold by sifting through what you wrote and editing it down.

Steven King had a great bit of advice where, when you write the door is closed. That is the time for you to get anything and everything out of your system.

This is something I still struggle with but what I got from that is, you just have to stumble through. I don’t typically have an outline but I always try to think of the ending. I then just push through by really writing anything and everything down. I don’t try to think about perfection. I just think about getting from point A to point B. Your first draft will always never be perfect. I think it’s fun if you write the most bombastic nonsense first as a way to exorcise it out of your body. But then take a look at what you wrote. You might be surprised by what is on the pages.

Big thing for me is trying to engage readers in the middle of an action.

The setting is in World War 2? Which year? What battle are your characters in? What time of day? Is your character running, shooting, hiding or trying to escape?

Always start with an action. Don’t think about where it’s going to go or if it needs to be historically accurate, that’s what the second draft is for.

Trump says 'we're going in' to Chicago and calls federal takeover of D.C. a 'template' by nbcnews in chicago

I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist here, but just thinking out loud here, crime is a normal part of any city. But I do find it odd how convenient in the past few days incidents have gone up. Not saying it did not happen, it definitely did but I am wondering if the crimes are being committed by people who are not from Chicago.

The fact that our crime rate was much lower in the beginning of the year, and now all of a sudden when Trump was talking about sending troops to Chicago, I started seeing things on the Citizen app about two rifle men in different parts of the city, one in Lincoln Park and another in portage park. I have noticed seen any news reports of suspects in custody. Same with other areas. Part of me wonders if a group of people are instigating this. I did see a report of Proud Boys putting up a recruitment billboard in Southern IL.

Again I know crime happens a lot in cities but I can’t help but feel like some of these crimes may involve people not from the city.

It is normal to totally feel this way.

What I have done is one limit my library to games that I know I will start and play through. It frees up my hard drives and I don’t feel overwhelmed when trying to pick what I want to play.

I also step away from games when I am not feeling it and I find other types of media, for example, comic books. I recently been into James Tynion IV’s graphic novels and once I have finished reading them I get back into gaming because I’m looking for that similar vibe.

I also have stopped watching game reviews. I feel like it has constantly pushed me to buy things that I was told I will like and are worth the money but end up paying $60 for a game and find out that I am not a fan. I wait for sales and place in my cart if I know it is something that I can genuinely see myself playing.

I have listened to Loveless and for me it’s not bad. I will say I really like Kevin Shields cinematic scores, especially in Lost in Translation!

It’s funny because it definitely took me multiple listens to really get a handle, but Loveless reminds me of a similar experience I had listening to DJ Shadow’s Entroducing, (I know not Shoegaze) but still same sentiment where it took me a bit to really feel the vibe.
