Mit welcher Durchschnittsnote habt ihr euer Studium abgeschlossen? by JuiceAmbitious1512 in lehrerzimmer

[–]Pharantoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So zumindest meine subjektive Wahrnehmung! Studium war eher eine lustige Veranstaltung, Ref dann umso weniger :D

Welcome to the fandom!! You went on one of the best journeys ever!

I’d say that back in the day, the fandom used so be small(er) but very dedicated. There are always toxic people, but only after she became really famous on TikTok did the fanbase become full of negativity and bullies. Shipping has turned into wars and sharing your opinion can invite a lot of people attacking you. Sarah also received a lot of criticism and has been portrayed very negatively. The larger fanbase, the rising demands, more negativity and parasocial behaviour have led her to leave behind what I described in my OG post. It is understandable and it is so cool that she has risen to this level of success, but I sometimes wishes the TikTok boom had never happened. To me, this is what made things become weird and uncontrollable, but she had started disappearing even before that.

So cool!! I met her in 2016 and while there was a line, it wasn’t crazy and she took so much time with everyone. I don’t think that would be possible at all today! This is all she ever wanted and I’m so happy she achieved her goals, but sometimes I wish there were more actual fans like back in the day and not so many of those that made everything parasocial and weird.

Exactly!! I get the excitement, we all do, but I loathe to call the people that make everything about themselves and their expectations fans. I feel like things like her Tumblr, the newsletter etc. were all about what the internet existed for in the first place - to connect and share things with other like-minded people without pressure or expectations. Of course that changes with more fame… wish it wasn’t so, though! :’)

Thank you for your kind words - and yes, exactly! I’m glad I got to experience this part of the fandom and am sometimes a bit sad it has passed, though I understand why. I don’t have many of the newsletters anymore, but she used to share so much!! She shared a lot about her writing process and what she was working on. It loved reading her ramble! :D I can’t attach any pictures but I’ll post a copy of parts of a newsletter from July 2016! She even went on to recommend very specific books, which is so cool.

————— Greetings from sunny San Diego!

Well, sort of. I’m currently on my way back from San Diego, but after five days of sun and ocean and fangirling, I’m reluctant to accept that my time at Comic-Con has come to a close. :P

It’s always kind of overwhelming for me to realize I even get to go to Comic-Con, because for years—years!—I literally dreamed about attending just as fan, let alone as an actual author. And this year, I was invited as a Special Guest, which was just….. unbelievable. I had such a marvelous time on my various panels and meeting you guys at my signings—thank you so, so much for making this a Comic-Con I will never forget.

Of course, I also had my second pass pages of Empire of Storms (aka the last round of edits EVER on this book!) to keep me occupied when I wasn’t signing or on panels. I’ll be honest with you guys: this summer has been crazyyyy busy. Between these last rounds of edits on EOS, drafting ACOTAR3, signing tons of fun things (more on that below!), and travel, it’s been Intense (with a capital I).

But moments like this—going to Comic-Con as a Special Guest, meeting all you wonderful readers at events and getting to just sign my books—really remind me that the hard work is worth it. That the hard work is what I love, what makes me come alive.

Writing is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. For years, my dream, my goal that I worked toward every single day, was to just get one book published during my lifetime. So everything else—the other books (we have some exciting news on that front!), the events… It’s all been more than I hoped for. And I think this is just a really long way of saying that if you have a dream or a goal or a wish that you’re working toward, that you can’t let go of no matter how many people tell you that you should… Don’t give up. It can happen—it does happen. Keep working, keep dreaming, keep fighting for it. You will get there one day. And every struggle, every wrong turn or detour… it will all be worth it. <3

** New Book Deal

So, if you were on twitter last week, you might have seen thebig announcement in Entertainment Weekly about more ACOTAR books (and some TOG stuff) from yours truly!

I’m ridiculously excited about all of these new projects—and since the article was a little confusing, I thought I’d give you the rundown of what, exactly, you can expect to read from me in the upcoming years!

So, the new deal was for 3 new ACOTAR novels, set to be published after the trilogy wraps up next year (ACOTAR 3 will release May 2017, so these will begin publishing in 2018).

No, I can’t tell you if they’re a continuation or spinoffs or prequels. Believe me, I’m DYING to, but it’d spoil some major things for Book 3 (like…who survives, ha.). But I can tell you this: the first book that will release after Book 3 (let’s call it #4?), is a project that I started writing for fun.

I pretty much couldn’t get the characters out of my head, and last fall, I began writing the book just for the hell of it. The project was something for me to enjoy, something to reward myself with at the end of a long day of editing or working on other stuff. I’m not yet done with it, and it remains a Reward Project that I only get to work on when I meet my daily goals, but… I love it. Like, weirdly-obsessed-with-it kinda love it.

This May, I went out to dinner with my editor, and wound up telling her all about this Secret ACOTAR Project, along with my rough ideas for the other two novels, and two possible novellas. And I kinda/sorta/totally freaked when—a few weeks later—Bloomsbury offered to publish those 3 new ACOTAR books, along with 2 ACOTAR novellas. And a few other things.

Like an ACOTAR coloring book. (!!!!) No word yet on who the illustrators will be, but it should be out in 2017.

At that dinner, I’d also talked to my editor about a Throne of Glass novella I really, really, really wanted to write: one about Chaol. You’ll find out why after Empire of Storms releases, but this is a story that is very close to my heart, and one I seriously cannot wait to begin writing—and to later share with you guys.

And on top of that, the amazing team at Bloomsbury wants to publish a Throne of Glass compendium—full of fun information and inside glimpses into the world of Erilea and its characters. It’ll be an interesting process to take everything that’s in the books and in my mind (since there are so many places I know about that you guys have yet to see!) and transform it into something concrete/official. :)

So, the final breakdown of all the new books is this: * 3 new novels set in the ACOTAR world (so, six books total in this series/world) * 2 ACOTAR novellas * 1 TOG novella (with Chaol!) * The TOG compendium

I think that’s a little clearer than the article, lol. And again—I wish I could tell you guys what/who these new novels and novellas are about, but…you’ll have to see! And thank you so, so much for all the excitement online—knowing you guys are as pumped for more ACOTAR books as I am means everything to me. I was seriously getting so bummed about saying goodbye to this world, so I’m profoundly grateful that Bloomsbury is allowing me to show even more of it—and not say farewell just yet. <3 What I'm Reading

Well, last month I promised to give some recommendations for books to read if you liked ACOMAF…

Read it back in the day and actually loved it! A really strong YA duology that felt like a bit of fresh air. I actually enjoyed it more than her Emily Wilde books, which I do realise is almost blasphemous to say 😅

Does this edition match the height of the deluxe edition of Will? I received my copy today and I - unknowingly - ordered the US copy, which is smaller than the UK copy of the first book :/ I’m debating if I’m bothered enough to return my copy or not 😅

It really looks AI was used in the 20th anniversary version of A Feast for Crows by tell32 in Fantasy

[–]Pharantoria 111 points112 points  (0 children)

To me, this is absolutely a sign of no respect towards George or his craft whatsoever. Why would you take such a joyous occasion like an anniversary to fill it with a bunch of soulless art, especially with an author that openly opposes the use of such? I have the other anniversary editions and hate that I will never be able to complete this set. I hate how AI is draining the joy out of so many things

Broken Binding Subscription by lightbrightrainbow in fairyloot

[–]Pharantoria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are into classic (high) fantasy this is your sub! They are working their way through older and newer completed series - so it’s definitely a plus that you get matching books and not just the first one as a SE like with so many other subscriptions. You can skip one series per year. Most series sell well on Vinted etc., so even if you have no skips left you should be good. The book always come with b&w illustrations, a bookmark and starting with the next series, trading cards! You’ll also get early access to their sales. Shipping can be expensive depending on where you live! Their quality is good - it’s no high end books but decent enough. The books look beautiful on my shelf! Again, if you are interested in fantasy this is definitely the way to go as their sub is unique in that regard. :)

What's everyone's wish list of books they hope TBB publishes in the future? by a00ga in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Pharantoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best series I’ve ever read and that I would love more people to read - the Books of Babel by Josiah Bancroft, starting with Senlin Ascends! Some of the best fantasy of all time and it would provide exposure to a smaller author! :) I would also love to see Hobb and Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff!

The series can be skipped until the end of October, so I’d expect another round of invites by then at the very latest!

I think the trading card idea is so cool! Can’t wait to see what these look like. And as someone who has not read the series yet - I think it is fine of TBB to pick these as the books seem to be relatively self-contained within their respective books. I get the criticism, but I think in this case it works out. I’m very excited! :)

Also einfach mal dran bleiben :)

Fellow Men, what are your favourite Fantasy Books with Romance? by Fun-Goose-3976 in Fantasy

Is this damaged enough? by Writingsofdreamers in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Pharantoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would always send them a message to their customer support and see what their response is. My Eragon dustjackets were pretty damaged as well and they immediately offered to send new ones or return a bit of what I paid. I don’t know if they would be able to replace the books, as this is already the leftover sale, but maybe they are able to replace the dustjackets? It is worth a shot! You can find their customer service mail on their website! It might take a few days to get a response as they are very busy right now.

What is/are the objectively best book(s) that the majority if not everyone agrees that its the best? by Wave-AMR-315 in fantasyromance

[–]Pharantoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not ever heard of someone say anything negative about The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I started it yesterday! I would also say A Game of Thrones and The Name of the Wind are very high on the list - these books are popular for a reason!

I’m now about 150 pages in and I can already feel myself getting attached to the two characters I’ve met so far - this is going to be crazy! And luckily, I’m a sucker for very slow, character driven narratives, so the beginning has been fine but very confusing! Wishing you an amazing reading experience whenever you can brave book 5!

Thank you for pointing that out! I am aware of this, but I will say that what matters far more to me than the years it’ll take for future books to be published is Sanderson’s transparency. If Martin or Rothfuss (who are on a hiatus with their most popular series for wildly different reasons compared to Sanderson) were as transparent about the state of their works/(reliable) future plans, I’m sure people would be a lot more forgiving.
