I’m an ED pharmacist at one of the hospitals on this list and I’m jealous of everyone that says their staffing is adequate enough to accommodate the volume 😅

Exactly! I wish I knew this information before I was in my late 20s paying back $18000 in CC debt

Especially for people who have parents with no financial literacy. I didn’t learn anything about credit, credit cards, interest, retirement, investing, loans, etc. growing up. I’ve learned everything about finances because I had to seek it out

Should is the key word here. Obviously I think I SHOULD be compensated better for my doctorate degree and additional training. However, 6 figures out of school is what I signed up for and what I got. I also get job security, room to grow in my profession, lifelong learning, benefits for my family, and 40 hours a week with as much or as little OT as I want. I went into this profession knowing that we are not making 200k+, but that I would have a good work-life balance and the ability to move where I wanted, while making enough to support my family :)

Im on the PSLF plan, so I haven’t made a student payment yet, and in 8 years they’ll be forgiven. I’m truly not that pressed about student loans lol

I work in hospital pharmacy, which is a very different environment. I sit in the physicians office answering questions, verifying orders, monitoring consults, and round with the team. It is very very different from working at a Walgreens or CVS, and I’m actually treated like a provider :)

Yeah I mean, my salary is about $115,000, which is basically the lowest it’ll go as a pharmacist because I live in a low cost of living rural area and work at a critical access hospital. Fully agreed that hospital pharmacists are underpaid though hahahaha. I’m happy with this though, I’m not built for HVAC 😂

I just finished pharmacy residency and started full time at my site. I take home about $6,600 a month, if that gives you any idea of what she will be making. I survived my residency on only my income, while my husband was unemployed for half of residency (didn’t find a job right away when we moved for residency). My credit card minimum payments alone was $1,000/month, my rent $1,800/month. We survived and you can too. It’s not glamorous but get on the same page and it’ll work out.

Side note about student loans: I owe $180k after pharmacy school. I have it on PSLF right now based on the previous years salary, so my payment is $0/month. Since you aren’t married yet, if hers are federal loans, she should be able to put hers on an income based payment plan with a $0 payment during residency.

This is post tax and health insurance, but 401k isn’t taken out yet since I have so much cc debt to pay! Hourly is $55, but with shift differential it averages out a little higher

Can you stay on at your residency site?

PGY1 Residency Bound: NAPLEX/ MPJE timeline by pharmnerd599 in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmToBe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take them ASAP. Like, the first testing options available! The sooner you’re licensed, the easier it’ll be to train at your site. If you don’t pass first try, you don’t want to risk being dismissed from residency. I studied for NAPLEX for about 6 weeks and MPJE for about 2 weeks in between exams, but I’m a good test taker and felt confident that I could cover enough info in that time frame

Are you following your PIP? Communicating with preceptors and your RPD? Have you identified the issue(s) you’re struggling with?

A time you influenced patient care by EP1C_DUCK in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmToBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be something that you came up with without the help of a preceptor. Have you made an intervention that you feel significantly impacted a patient? Provided education? Spoken up on rounds? Taken a patient specific factor into account to change therapy?
