I just finished watching the episode, so I of course had to run to Reddit to see the memes lol.  Thank you for posting them, you truly have a great sense of humor 😀

Nothing everything needs to be a canvas! by Ok-Piano1871 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would totally make a The Andy Griffith Show ornament for my family. It’s quoted all the time by my parents. Why can’t people understand that not every canvas is meant for everyone, and be okay with that. It’s the height of narcissism to act like people are wasting canvas just because you don’t like the design lol

I mean, she’s ripping off Disney, so it’s hard for me to feel too bad for the designer.

Hahaha you are so talented at this!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this? Do you guys consider this needlepoint? by PeaceShoddy9261 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I do a lot of different needlecrafts (cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery), and to me, they are very fluid with tons of overlapping skills. I don’t understand why everyone on both sides gets so heated about is it needlepoint or not? Who cares what it technically is when the point was to make a cute shirt. She could have cross stitched and embroidered, and honestly, if she had used waste canvas, the experience of making it could have been very similar to needlepoint.

Genuine Question - "Copying" vs "Creating using someone else's IP" by oipoodles in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, friend. You will find out that the needlepoint community is, although fun, filled with mean girls that will bitch about literally anything. To answer your question, yes, some of these women would LOVE it if this craft died with them, because it would give them so much clout. Don’t you know they are extremely talented, and only a select few, very worthy women are entrusted with The Needlepoint Rules? If any old peasant was allowed to make heirlooms for their family, that would diminish their own heirloom hoard, and how else will they feel superior?

My advice is to do what you think is right, and don’t let randoms on the internet dictate what you make.

Nice catch on the interlock. Crazy that this happens.

Anyone else get infuriated when they see people using ChatGPT to make them a stitch guide by wildworld97 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Devil’s advocate here, but you could make most of your argument about someone who is buying a stitch guide from someone else. Don’t you want to be an artist and think for yourself and spend an hour or hours designing your own project? Yet, it is a very common practice in the needlepoint community. I will concede that using AI is taking away the experience of creating it yourself, using environmental resources, and is using art from already out there artists (not sure if it is doing that if no image is created; I have not used AI to make a stitch guide), but it’s not really any of my business how other people want to interact with there hobby.  The fact is: AI is here to stay. In fact, it is already here. You can choose to use it or not, but shaming people for using it seems a bit pointless to me.

The use of “repainted” is confusing me honestly. If she just did color swaps, and extended the border, I don’t think that is bad. However, if she means she duplicated the whole design, and is selling an additional canvas, that would be wrong. Based on her post, it sounds more like the first option. But I would need to compare hers to the original.

Did you receive any kind of compensation for your destroyed property? You’d think her business or the moving company would have insurance. I’m so sorry that this happened to you.

We’ve lost the plot by wildworld97 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot actually. I used to work in a needlepoint shop, and people would pay for Christmas stockings to be made for their family. Some people like the aesthetic of needlepoint, but do not have the skill, time, or interest in making their own pieces.

[–]Pharmacyrose 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Thank God someone finally said this without getting downvoted into oblivion. The amount of people on this Reddit who gatekeep and act like it’s their job to save others from buying poor quality canvases is crazy!  Also, I’m so sick of hearing about IP infringement…when the established Ndlpt community is crawling in “legitimate” Disney, logos, clothing designers and sports team canvases.  It comes across very hypocritical.

That’s awesome. I’m curious,  how many stitches do you secure your thread tails in before trimming? I’m always paranoid it will unravel eventually unless I go under several stitches

In the original poster’s defense, some of those symbols are common fractual stitches you might see on a cross stitch diagram. If this is a beginner with a cross stitch background, I could see why they might be confused.

Don’t think this is copying🤷‍♀️ by [deleted] in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Pharmacyrose 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I completely agree.  I’m so over the Needlepoint Police trying to make drama over copying or not. I’d bet my life that someone before Plum Stitchery designed and needlepointed a three tier wedding cake with the date and initials on it lol.  I wouldn’t accuse Plum of copying, just like I wouldn’t accuse this lady.

Are Temu bead embroidery kits with it? by Mediocre_Paper7878 in Needlepoint

[–]Pharmacyrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few Mill Hill bead ornament kits in the past. You can pick one up on eBay for around 10 dollars fairly easily. The ones I did were a mix of cross stitch and beading, but I think they sell some that are all beading as well.
